Selwyn groaned. Why did fate always have to choose him? Surely there were other people out there whose lives would be just as entertaining to screw with.

All he wanted was to smuggle Shylock down to his room and cuddle for the rest of the night. Was that really too much to ask? Why did he have to get caught out by the only kid in the school who couldn't take a hint if it hit him over the head?

"Uh, yeah I can see that," Selwyn agreed. "What I'm delicately trying to say is that you have my solid gold, one hundred percent guarantee that you'll be serving detentions until you graduate if you tell anyone, and I mean anyone, about my friend."

"And since I'm a fair man, I'm going to take your word for it that you were really going to the Hospital Wing and not, for example, having a rendezvous with one of my fourth years. You really need to get higher standards, kid."

Vaughn knew that Professor Selwyn was serious but what the professor didn't know was that he would never tell. He wanted to forget it completely, "What friend Professor?" He said looking at him pretending that he didn't know that his friend was behind him. He wanted Professor Selwyn to know that he didn't care that he had a friend here and that he was only in a hurry to get that potion.

"Yes I was sir, you can ask Healer Faulkner. I'm there most nights for a potion to help me sleep. I take it there and have enough time to make it back to my dorm before it kicks in." He said honestly wanting to leave. "May I leave go now Professor?" He asked politely not wanting to seem like he was trying to high tail it out of there which was exactly what he wanted to do. He was starting to not like having conversation with Professor Selwyn because it always seemed like he was being insulted.

He only hoped that his dorm mates didn't know that he left the tower to go to the hospital wing. He didn't want anyone to pry into his late night trips there. He went there for one reason and he never deviated from that ever except for tonight which was one thing he kicked himself for.

Selwyn rolled his eyes. Finally, the kid caught on.

"Don't do that," he snapped. "And don't even think of going into politics."

"Sure, get going," he waved a hand in the general direction of the Hospital Wing, effectively dismissing Vaughn.

He had no interest in asking Lilyanya what Vaughn's nocturnal activities were. The boy was so earnest about his genuine intentions, there was no way he could be lying. Even if Selwyn did enjoy keeping the boy off balance with the semblance of his intense dislike.

He turned back to Shylock.

"I don't need to take you up there too, do I?" he asked.

"No," Shylock's reply was low and fast.  

"You haven't hurt me, Lovely, just focussed my concentration."

"What say we return this," he held up the tripod he'd been toying with, "then seek out more comfortable accommodation?  I distinctly remember thinking how comfortable your bed looked this morning."
