First Class {basic}

Gathering her books and other items, Willow made her way toward her classroom. School at Hogwarts had begun again and she couldn't help but be worried. What would this year's classes be like? How would they be different than those in the past? Many thoughts and concerns flew thru her head as she made her way thru the students toward her own classroom. Passing by many students and even other professors, Willow nodded in their direction. Her own little way of saying hello.

Entering her classroom, Willow couldn't help smiling. Next to being out on the grounds, this was her other place of happiness. Here she could look at the stars and other things but also read. Even on top of all that she had the ability to share her knowledge with the students here. Slowly she made her way toward her desk and laid down her bag on the corner. Turning to look back at the empty chairs that would soon be filled.

Talking a seat behind her desk she sat and began to prepare for the arrival of her students. As she began to filter thru different pages people started to slowly fill class.

Astronomy aka. Selwyn's excuse for walking the halls at night. Frankly, he was surprised more people hadn't figured out this little ruse. You took the subject, and then, because it happened in the middle of the night, half the professors didn't know what was going on. If you got caught breaking curfew, there was always the good old "I was on my way to the Astronomy Tower" trick. Or "I thought I'd get a hot chocolate after Astronomy" trick. Or, to be honest, a million other variations of the same.

Hogwarts teachers were really gullible, when you thought about it. Maybe because they were so old. They probably couldn't even remember their childhoods anymore.

But for every good thing, there was always a downside, and Selwyn did actually have to turn up to his Astronomy lessons. It was a drag, but there it was. And because he was a perfectionist, he had to get good grades as well. Well, because he was a perfectionist and because his father would tan his hide if he didn't.

Abbey entered the classroom and set down her books. She took a place at a desk, and waited for the class to start. She noticed the same boy that she had in pretty much all of her classes already in the classroom.

Rory entered her first astronomy class and walked over to the professor. "Morning Professor, I'm Rory L. Valantine" Rory smiled and walked to the front vacant desk and sat down.

Sitting behind her desk, Williow sat playing with a few stacks of papers. Soon she heard footsteps enter the room. Looking up she was a little suprised to find three students. Since all three where new, Williow just said, "Hello everyone."

"Hello professor!" Abbey said, cheerful by the nice deameanor of her teacher. Abbey began to get antsy, wanting to start her lessons right away, but there were still more students entering the classroom.

Alice hurried into the room. She had been late in another class, and was a little bit surprised at the strictness of the teacher, though the teacher looked nice.
"Good morning Professor Kavanagh" she smiled again.

Rory noticed that Abbey was in this class as well as Herbology. Quite a perky, loud happy girl, not in a bad way or anything, Rory thought.

After a few moments, Willow looked around at the few gather inside. This was a good start, better than last term. "Well class. I was waiting to make sure everyone was here but I think we need to get started." Willow went to stand in front of her desk.

"Welcome to Basic Astronomy. Here you will learn the basics and who knows, we might progress to upper levels, depends on how well you do. So lets start. Who can tell me a little about what Astronomy actually is?"

"The study of the stars and other celestial objects," Selwyn reeled off the answer by rote, for it was written in the first paragraph of the first years' text book and this question was standard procedure by now. Also, a really convenient way of getting house points.

He could almost hear the emeralds dropping into the bottom bowl of the hourglass downstairs as he waited for the professor to agree with him.
