“Who knew someone could be so happy to see a puppy with such a dangerous tail,” Susan laughed holding out for Drew to take. “Be careful with it, he might stab you with his tail by accident,” she added as she kept having to move her head so she didn’t getting stabbed.
“I’ll get the tail removed in a week or so when he is old enough for the tail to be docked,” she said “the poor thing was left in a box in front of the Ministry. Next thing I know I ended up vouching for the little guy.” She had left out the part about the Ministry wanting to put him down if no one would take him.
Ernie smiled as he watched Drew; this all had made him realize what he had been missing. Drew was growing up so fast and he has missed so much of his life due to a farm. He wasn’t sure all that work was worth missing his kids growing up. It was too late for Claire, Edgar and probably Jessica but it wasn’t too late for Amelia and Drew. He couldn’t screw this up again. All that work on the farm had turned up into nothing when nearly all of the sheep and Demiguise had been wiped out sudden in the middle of the day; they had just vanished without a trace. Demiguise are hard to see as it but when there food hadn’t been touch something was wrong.
“A Crup is much more fun than a Demiguise or a sheep for sure and easier to care for,” he said. He remembered when he had last talked to Susan in St. Mungo’s which he was sure the kids knew nothing about. He still remembered her admitting to him that it was much her fault as his for screwing up the marriage and that she didn’t know what to do anymore, that she needed help. He knew how hard that was for her to say. He didn’t quite agree with it though he was the one who had stopped listening, paying attention and showing that he even cared. It wasn’t her fault what happened it was his.
