Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

"Just a shadow of the woman you should be, like a garden in the forest that the world will never see..."

As she walked down to the Dueling Arena, she whistled and sung one of her favorite songs. It wasn't exactly happy, but it was a deceiving song. One that appeared to be happy though it had a violent and negative connotation.

"...there's no need for what's been done, there is enough for everyone. Frustration brings a heavy hand to bear....". If any song could be my theme, Brienne thought, this would be it.

What exactly was she doing in the first place near the Dueling Arena? She was going to duel with Angelique. She peered inside the arena area, there were only two people. Bittel, the dueling instructor, and Angelique.

Caelani hadn't exactly been surprised that Angie was the first person to take advantage of the school's duelling facilities. After all, the girl had already tested the rules; she was at an advantage over her peers and if she was a true Slytherin, she wouldn't want to give it up.

So Calli sauntered over to the duelling station the girls had chosen and checked their positions. This was the part of duelling she hated. The part where she watched and other people did the fun stuff.

"You can start when you're ready," she said.

Brienne was sizing up her opponent. She didn't mind being on defense at first so she'd observe what he opponent would use, and how she'd use it. A smile played across her lips like a child in a leaf pile. So what if the other girl gets first attack? She didn't mind at all.

A Hurling Hex was thrown, woah, this kid was good. "Obsidio!" She blocked the attack with the Blocking Charm. She planned out her attack, would she use the Stinging Hex or the Hurling Hex like Angelique did? Decisions, decisions, decisions. Stinging Hex.

"Aculetus!" Brienne made a motion with her wand like a whipping. She aimed for the Pyrites girl. The Stinging Hex would likely hit, or at least she hoped so. The attack that her opponent tried had missed.

Tally:

15 - 6 = 9 (Block)
0 Hits (Blocked a hit)
Stinging Hex, Blocking

I'm just going to pop in as Caelani to clear this up.

When you do a duel it always helps to have the duelling rules and the spells open in another tab, at least until you get used to it. I still do that now, just to make sure what I'm saying now is consistent with what I originally wrote.

The reason you're confused is because you forgot to put your tally in. Your magic points are for defending against Angelique's attack. If you want to block her spell, you can take the amount she rolled for and multiply it by 1.5 and block her attack. You'd get an equation that looks like this:

15 - 6 (blocking) = 9

15 is you original magic points, 6 is the amount you use to block and 9 is how many magic points you have left to use. You'd then carry over the 9 and use it at the beginning of your tally for the next time you blocked.

The number next to the dice is how many dice you're using. Right now, we always leave it at 1.

Now, since you dodged, your current tally should look like this:

15 - 0 (hit) = 15 << your magic points
1 hit << your hits
stinging hex << your spell

I hope this makes it clearer. I'm not going to post with Angelique yet, so you can still block if you want to. If not, just edit the tally in and PM her account.
