Music to my ears

The sun was high in the sky that Saturday when Cecilia Krum finally rolled out of bed. Yawning she walked into the girls bathroom and looked in the mirror. “Oh god!” She said brushing her hair out of her face. She ran back to her bed and got her make up bag out of her trunk and started to apply it as she walked back to the mirror. Foundation, eye liner, mascara, multiple eye shadows, and a sparkly lip gloss later she smiled at her reflection and said “Much better,” before sauntering out of the bathroom and back to her trunk where she picked out a pink shirt which had a small black bow, a black pleated skirt, a pair of plain black flats and a few pieces of random jewelry before pulling her violin case out from under her bed and moved off toward the grand stair case.
Cecilia tossed her hair pushing her hair off her shoulder as she pushed open the door that lead out toward the court yard and she was happy to see it was pretty empty. She walked over to one of the stone benched and lay her case down opening it and taking out the beautiful violin made out of the most beautiful wood in the world. She always believed it was perfect. With a deep cleansing sigh of happiness she lifted the violin and bow and began to play. At first the music was soft and slow but soon she had begun to play a little louder and faster though she wasn’t playing anything in particular, just a short warm-up peice.

Jimmy was already up, feeling bright eyed and busy tailed for once. It was unusual for him to feel happy in the morning and seeing as the weather was so pleasant today, Jimmy decided to make the most of it. Wearing a white, collared shirt and a pair of jeans coupled with his favored fedora atop his head, Jimmy ventured out to the courtyard with a book in hand.

It didn't take long for the Sun to work it's cruel magic on Jimmy's pale skin though. Soon enough he was retreating to the comfortable shelter of a nearby tree, grateful that he hadn't chosen to wear his trademark trench coat. "That's much better" Jimmy mused as he made himself comfortable against the tree. It wasn't long before Jimmy was engrossed in his book, the light breeze and the tree's ample shade keeping him cool and happy.

His trance was broken though by the faint murmur of music. Setting his book down, Jimmy cupped his ear in order to hear more but soon he didn't have to as the melody began to grow louder. "This day just keeps getting better and better". Jimmy proceeded to look for the source, which didn't take long. Gazing upon Cecilia and her violin, Jimmy became entranced by the music, completely forgetting his book with a faint smile etched on his face.

Cecilia smiled and closed her eyes as she played swaying back and forth in time with the music she played. She posed for a minute to take a deep cleansing breath and then she began to play her favorite muggle song Firework by Katy Perry. It had taken her for ever to learn the song but she felt as if she had finally perfected it about a month ago. She’s didn’t necessarily like it all that much when that weird muggle sang it but she really did love the way that it sounded on the violin. “You don't have to feel like a wasted space. You're original, cannot be replaced. If you only knew what the future holds. After a hurricane comes a rainbow Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed. So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road. Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow, and when it's time, you'll know” she began to sing softly though her voice wasn’t as good as her playing.

"Is...is that...singing??" Jimmy thought to himself as he cupped a hand to his ear. Sure enough, he could hear the faint murmurings of Cecilia's singing. Jimmy moved a little closer so that he could hear better, going as close to the edge of the tree's shade as he dared.

Waiting patiently for the song to end, not that he really wanted it to, Jimmy took a deep breath before approaching Cecilia, clapping softly as he did so. "That was wonderful" he enthused, a polite smile on his face "How long have you been playing for?" he asked, eager to know more about this fellow music lover in front of him.

Hearing the clapping Cecilia twirled around hiding the violin behind her back. “What? Playing what? I wasn’t playing anything.” She lied horribly and began to blush. “Okay, I was playing and I haven’t been for long but I spent a lot of time on it for the past couple of years. No one knows that I’m good at this. You can’t tell anyone!” she removed the violin from behind her back and it hung in her hand by her side. Cecilia pushed her hair behind her ear and looked up at the guy. “Hey I haven’t seen you around before. I’m Cecilia Krum, but you should know that already. Everyone knows me.” She flipped the rest of her hair over her shoulder with her normal prissy little attitude.

Jimmy was taken aback by her reaction to him and it showed. "O-okay? I won't tell...I promise!" he stammered "I-I didn't know it was supposed to be a secret...", he added, bowing his head a little. "Great...another situation I've managed to mess up or make uncomfortable".

"It's nice to meet you, Miss Krum. I'm Jimmy, Jimmy McKenna." Jimmy stated politely, tipping his hat towards her and outstretching a hand towards her. "I can't say I DO know you, but then again, I barely know anyone around here." he said with a lethargic shrug of his shoulders. "So, how long have you been playing for?" Jimmy inquired, gesturing to her violin.

“Nice to meet you too Mr. McKenna,” Cecilia said giving him a little curtsy, “Really? You have to know my father or at least heard of him. Viktor Krum?” Turning away from him for a minute so that she could carefully put it back in its case, she was obviously not going to get any more practicing in. “Awhile,” she answered his question quietly, “but no one believes I have music talent. To them I’m just a pretty face and a manikin.” She looked back up at him and asked “Do you play? Or maybe you sing?” she tilted her head to the side.

"I think I vaguely recall that name, yes" said Jimmy tilting his head to the side ever so slightly. This was a lie though, Jimmy was never one to be involved much in social circles. He found the apparent need to discuss others successes and failings tacky and distasteful.

"Well, um, yes. I guess you could say I play." Jimmy curtly answered. "I kind of know my way around a guitar, if I do say so myself" he added, smiling a little. Jimmy watched as she put away her instrument, his face etched with disappointment. "Oh, you're done playing? I was hoping you would continue..." he said, his voice contrite and polite.

“I’m not that good at multitasking,” Cecilia said, “That’s how people like me get hurt…” before she said anymore she took the violin back out. “I also play the cello. Prefer it over the violin but too hard to sneak it out off to school without people noticing.” She pursed her lips then looked up at Jimmy, “What should I play? Something classical or maybe a more popular song? You can play almost anything on the violin and have it sound good, at least with practice. ” she thought some more as she look up at the sky. Lifting her violin she began to play something soft and slow mesmerized by the small puffy clouds in the sky.

Jimmy carefully sat down on the bench and gazed upon Cecilia as she took the violin back out. "I don't mind what you play, I like music." he said, looking forward to hearing the violin's soft, soothing melodies again. As she began to play, Jimmy became transfixed by the music, his eyes glued to her hands as he watched them do their magic.

As the song ran on, Jimmy began to ponder whether or not he should go get his guitar and join in. Deciding to wait until the song was finished, Jimmy looked to Cecilia and asked "Do you mind if I went to get my guitar? It's just my fingers are suddenly itching to play along,. I hope that's not an issue, is it?"
