Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Perfection Takes Practice Empty Perfection Takes Practice

Post by Naomi Barker-Greyback Tue Oct 26, 2010 11:46 pm

Naomi left the stall and quickly turned on the taps of water, washing her hands. She dried her hands and leaned forward to peer at her reflection, her nose near the mirror, her stomach pressing against the porcelain bowl of the sink, her grey eyes searching her reflection.

Naomi had appearances to keep and it was important to at least feign perfection, even when she felt imperfect. No one needs to know that she felt insecure like other girls, the mystery was why didn't she act like she did. But now she could check, do touch ups, keep up the act.

She was not girly or vain; she was smart. Beautiful people were popular. Popular people were safe. Sure people envied them, and jealousy spurned some danger, but in many ways they were untouchable. And Naomi knew how to survive, and if fretting over her eyeliner would help, she would do it...

Perfection Takes Practice Empty Re: Perfection Takes Practice

Post by Miseria Lupin Wed Oct 27, 2010 6:55 pm

When Miseria first entered the Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, she didn't notice student who was standing not so far away from her, staring into the mirror. Hufflepufflian didn't look around when she walked over to the cran. She just wanted to wash her hands which were ditry because of her new try to do something... useful. Both of her hands were full of green jello-thing which wanted actually to be potion. What she actually wanted to create, was just something shampoo like, only for what purposes, she didn't exactly know. She was just Bored, and like any other person, she had to do something.

She washed her hands with cold water, and only then she noticed the girl not so far away from where she was standing, and raised her eyebrows. She was looking into the mirror with a conserned glare, which made her look into her own reflection as well. Not unlike any other girls, she didn´t see anything special from there. Back at her stared a 16 years old girl with brown eyes, and light-brown hair. Her face was paler than usual which is why she was sometimes called a “vampire“, but she didn't mind that. Her skin just didn't get any tan, no matter how much time she spends on the beaches or sunny areas. That was the only thing what she liked in herself.
However, there was no trace of a lippiercing, not even a signt about a blue hair what she had about half a year ago. Nothing. Only gothic clothes which reminded her of her past. This was probably the only thing what didn't change in her looks.
But on the inside, she was still the same girl who looked for the adventures, who was helpful, and who Loved to risk with her own life to have some fun.

Finally she looked away from the girl in the mirror, and sighed quietly. She wasn't pretty. She wasn't even beautiful, and there was nothing to be proud of.

Perfection Takes Practice Empty Re: Perfection Takes Practice

Post by Naomi Barker-Greyback Wed Oct 27, 2010 8:56 pm

Naomi usually did not get involved in the lives of her peers, because it was easier and much safer to live disconnected from them. And when another girl came in and promptly began to wash her hands and scrutinize her own reflection, Naomi had no plans too. If it came down to it, she may force some pleasantries, but it was only for the appearance of being normal.

But when you were a girl in a bathroom, there was a different set of rules that defined normality. A lot happened in the bathroom; girls fled there to cry, to express insecurities, to escape from a difficult situation, to exchange news... It was a focal setting in the life of a girl. And if you happen to witness any of those fore-mentioned, the duty of a girl is to help out, no matter your own personality. It was just an instinct.

So when the girl offered a sad, depressed sounding sort of sigh, Naomi knew no amount of feigned ignorance or pretend deafness could excuse her from her girl responsibilities. To neglect them would raise a red flag, and her flawless reputation needn't be tainted now, not when she had already achieved so much. So she turned to the girl, her eyes darting towards her reflection as she scraped away some excess eyeliner, "Are you alright?"

Perfection Takes Practice Empty Re: Perfection Takes Practice

Miseria was already ready to leave the bathroom to continue with her own experiments, but then she heard a tiny voice speaking with her. She was still standing infront of the mirror, looking at it, and then she saw a girl who was looking back at her. The question itself made her turn around and look at her with an impressed expression. No one asked her such things. Not even Khaat when she saw her after a very long time. It sounded almost like a music to her ears, though, she knew that those who are close to her, really cared about her, and though, they didn't ask her such questions, she knew that they were worried a lot about her.

“Uhm, I'm fine,“ she said. Actually, she was even more surprised when she saw that the one who was talking to her, was a Slytherin. Not that she didn't get along with those – she did, sometimes. They just didn't pay attention to her and they didn't also talk to her. She was just a hufflepufflian, another student in school who was pointless to them. However, she knew that not every slytherin was so cold. Elijah Krum wasn't for example. He was her friend, and he even offered his help. But then she felt that it would sound a little more polite if she would ask the same question, even though she wasn't that much curious. Although, she would offer her help if the girl was sad herself. “And you? Is everything Okay?“ She asked when the girl brushed away her eyeliner. Maybe she was crying before Miseria came here?

Naomi stared at her and then the girl asked if she herself was okay. Naomi felt her heart begin to race even though she had no reason to be. She was obviously fine, but the fact that the girl thought something was wrong with her unsettled Naomi. Naomi always strove to appear her best and that meant looking collected and together at all times. The fact that she had not appeared so when she was fine made her feel worried and exposed.

"No, I'm fine." She paused and then said. "Did I look upset?" Too defensive! "I just was retouching up my makeup. After awhile, it smears." She smiled casually and turned to her. "You sure that you are okay? You seemed sort of distant." Again, Naomi would not take such an interest in her, but she needed to appear normal, especially because of the girl's observation.

Mis nodded. She didn't have any intentions to ask further if she was sure. When the girl said so, she meant it. Besides it seemed to be that the girl didn't actually do any lying at the moment. And she was sure that if she would start asking for more details about "No, I'm fine.", this would probably piss her off. Or maybe not. So she smiled when the girl told her that she was actually removing the un-necessary layer of the eyeliner, she gave her a nodd. Yes, even she used those things when she was... a bit younger. And more into this goth style.
Black always framed her blue eyes, which transformed into brown few months ago. She just needed to change her looks, though, not the style. She was so into it, and it would be painful for her to start wearing something pink or purple. It wouldn't be her.

“Oh,“ said Miseria when the girl's voice reached her ears again. Distant? She heard it once from someone. Only this someone also added that she was deep in thought, too. “I am always like this,“ girl said. She didn't know actually if it was true. She never was the one who could see herself like the others did.

Naomi felt a small, swift little flood of relief when the girl nodded and questioned her no more about any peculiarities in her demeanor. Again, there was nothing wrong with Naomi, but it severely unnerved her that someone had thought so, even if they had mistaken her adjusting makeup for something more. Still...

The girl seemed thrown off that Naomi had further questioned her, though she was not quite a s freaked out from what Naomi could tell. She said she always looked that way and Naomi decided to keep the strain of conversation away from herself. "Really? Hmmm... Well, I just wanted to make sure... You are sure right?"
