Swish And Flick

Nodding as Vivianna exclaimed it's never easy to replace a wand Hallie listened to what she said about what her new wand would be like. It was a shame she couldn't use dragon heartstring or pear, they'd gotten her through so much the past few years. Although she was different to the girl she'd been aged eleven. In fact she was very different to how she'd been a year ago. This time last year Hallie had been working hard for her NEWT's and her biggest worry was whether she'd get the grades to become an Auror. Now she was married, legless and wandless. She'd changed. Matured. Initially Hallie had matured more because of her job, working long shifts and dedicated studying towards her training. However the marriage had shaped her completely different. Hallie was no longer as fun, adventurous. She was unhappy, full of angst and hatred towards the ministry for matching her with a dark family. The Gryffindor missed being in Gryffindor, she missed the innocence. Adulthood really did suck.

Coming back into reality Hallie accepted one of the wands, the almond wand, and gazed down as it rested on her lap. It was a pretty wood but that wasn't what her blue eyes had caught sight of. Her leg, or her prosthetic would be a better description. Almond was good for healing the manager had said. Would it be good enough to heal her leg? Regrow it? 

Turning her left wrist over Hallie pressed the tip of the almond wand to one of her bruises. Muttering the incantation she watched as slowly but surely the month old bruise faded to the white skin Hallie was used to seeing. She smiled. The spell had worked, granted it was a simple spell, but unlike the previous two wands Vivianna had gave her it didn't leave her feeling empty. 

Not wanting to place all her hopes on the almond wand Hallie picked the Blue Spruce. The wood brought memories of the Christmas Trees her Dad and found each year and brought home. Another smile cracked her frown. Catching her reflection in a mirror besides her Hallie raised the wand to her wand and waved the wand over herself. From the roots of her hair the blonde became brown, creeping down to the very tip until she was brunette. Next came her eyebrows, matching her transfigured hair colour. It worked and without hard concentration, which was quiet a skill in transfiguration. At first human transfiguration had been the bane of all NEWT students existence but now Hallie was rather fond of it. Perhaps the blue spruce wand would help her become an animagus? Whatever feeling the almond had gave her was nothing compared to this, it brought back a love Hallie had forgotten, a love greater than her love of a leg. The Gryffindor had always loved transfiguration and here that feeling rose once more inside of her.  

Not bothering to return her hair back to blonde Hallie placed the Blue Spruce back into it's box and collected the final wood. Hawthorn. 

The Hawthorn and Phoenix feather wand she'd tried earlier had been good but not good enough, this time the core was blended. Curious as to the effects Hallie lazily flicked the wand at a vase on the counter. 'Geminio.' And like magic the vase became two, but again the spell hadn't felt right and Hallie was sure the replicated vase wasn't as clean as the previous. 

'I like the blue spruce.' She said in a more positive manner than previously as the blonde returned the hawthorn to it's case. 'I'm not really connecting with the Hawthorn but the Almond was okay, decent but I feel as though the blue spruce is more suited to me given my job as well.' 

Vivianna licked her lips, pondering over the feedback she'd been provided. It hadn't exactly been what she had expected, but the Slytherin supposed that the results made sense, upon futher thought. Blue Spruce wands tended to be very well-rounded, something that an Auror would certainly appreciate. Blue Spruce wands also tended to be unique in that witches and wizards with stronger personalities tended to get more out of them. It was rather fitting.

"Blue Spruce is a decent possibility then," the redhead said with a nod of recognition. "you may very well like that the best, but I'm going to let you try another three, just to make sure you end up with the best possible wand. You have no idea how many people I see with wands that don't fit them as well as they could. It's terribly upsetting."

Swooping over and collecting the three wand boxes from the blonde, Vivianna efficiently replaced them back into their slots and grabbed three more without so much as a hesitation. After spending as much time in the place as she had, anyone would have the entire inventory memorized.

"Ivy, Peach, and Rowan," the Hogwarts student explained, "they've all got just a plain phoenix feather, so the core shouldn't factor at all into how the wand feels for you. It'll all be due to the wood."

The hassle of finding a wand was taking longer than Hallie had expected, if only there was a simply answer: her old wand. But that wand was lost, no doubt a muggle had found it or a dog chewed it by now. Besides, Hallie had changed since she had acquired her wand almost eight years ago, a change of wand was overdue.

Smiling at Vivianna responding by saying the blue spruce would be the wand for her, Hallie was relieved that the shopping was over, she'd purchase the wand and abra kadabra alakazam Hallie would return home with the ability to perform even the most basic of switching spells. However it seemed the manager had more wands in mind. Hallie supposed she was only doing her wand, moreover it was essential she received the correct wand as it was one of her most prized possessions now she would soon have achieved auror status and was working with the Order of The Phoenix.

In turn Hallie decided to be more consistent this time around and performed both a transfiguration and a charm with each of the wands.

First was the ivy. It certainly felt unusual in her fingers, not because of the magic simply by how thin the wand was. The Gryffindor felt frightened she'd snap it and that was a high possibility given the amount of catastrophe's the blond went through with her wand. The ivy returned her hair colour almost back to the natural, not perfect, but still good. However her charm work with the wand was slightly better, proving extremely useful for summoning the clipboard into Hallie's hand - which Hallie sent back with a brandishing charm.

Next up was peach. The peach was good, not as good as the blue spruce wand but non the less the wand at least corrected the off-natural colour the Ivy wand had given her. In fact transfiguration with the peach was much better, leading Hallie to conjure a pouf for her good leg to rest on.

Finally was Rowan. The moment the wand fell into Hallie's hand a tingle crept along the back of her neck, it was almost like the tingle she'd felt went Ollivander had provided her with the pear and dragon heartstring wand. Magic. With the Rowan Hallie felt both protected and protective, she felt almost her old self again as if her leg hadn't been removed. The trainee auror was accomplished in protective enchantments and Hallie felt as though a simple protego with the Rowan wand would be enough to not only deflect a spell but cause the opponent to falter slightly, stumble because of the force of her shield. Transfiguration no longer felt an issue, Hallie wanted to wear her scars like a medal of honor and show the world her capabilities - regardless if Theodore wanted her to remain home-bound.

'Evanesco.' Hallie said, vanishing the pouf where her leg rested. Flicking her wand inwards, thinking the word 'accio' a large ladder came soaring across the room in her direction. Rising from her feet, forgetting she only had on, Hallie brandished her wand heavily. 'Protego.' She had been right. A simply spell but a powerful effect, the ladder was forced backwards before hitting Hallie - who had fallen to the ground due to her condition - but was protected from the ladder that had now broken and splintered from the strength of the shield charm.

Pushing herself back up with her arms and crutches Hallie grinned a true grin for the first time in so long. This was the wand, this was the magic she had missed. With the Rowan wand Hallie felt as though she could take on the entire Blood pack, silence them once and for all and protect the entire nation from the fear they spread.

'I'll take the Rowan.' Hallie spoke, more strongly than before without any contemplation. It was definitive. Hallie had one of the missing pieces to her life.

Vivianna just watched as the witch tried out the different wands, casting all sorts of spells. If the redhead hadn't been conversing with a paying costumer, she probably would have told the witch that she wasn't being very accurate with her testing. All wand workers know that when testing wands, one should use the same spell, that way the results are far easier to compare.  The blonde seemed happy enough, however, and so the student kept her mouth shut.

The manager could tell the moment that her costumer found the wand for her. Vivianna didn't need to hear the witch asking for it, having already been told from the look on her face. The redhead was a little baffled, admittedly. She'd figured that the woman before her would need a blended core, but instead she'd been chosen by a wand with only a phoenix feather. That was okay. The blonde had found a wand she liked and worked well with, and that was what truly mattered. Vivianna didn't particularly like being wrong, but she'd been perfectly right with everything else, so she supposed she could forgive herself.

"Eleven Galleons," Vivianna informed the auror, "will that be all?"

Taking back all boxes but one, the witch slid them back into their proper places. There was a wand-box shaped hole in the back wall, where the Rowan wand had once been. But while the wand's absence created a gap in the store, it had filled one inside the heart of the witch before her.

Vivianna wasn't a particularly kind or caring person. She didn't get any pleasure from the happiness of others like so many people did. There was, however, something extraordinarily special about the moment a person bonded with a wand. The Slytherin didn't do what she did to help others, she did it for herself, to watch such magical moments happening over and over again. And if she had to help others in the process of getting what she wanted? Well, she could deal with that.
