Both work together as Professors at Hogwarts. Although the two aren't great friends and Mary does make Amelia cringe from time to time with the tears at unimportant things out of all the staff Mary feels most drawn to Amelia, she connects with her much better than the others. Perhaps because she doesn't judge as much as the other staff? Or maybe because she has the warm, mother feel about her?

After a precognitive dream in which Mary saw James Blood taking students hostage in return for Khaat Lupin Mary met up with James to see what his plans were. To her horror the werewolf was demanding that she use her power of a seer to connect with Khaat, lure her out for James Blood. If she didn't then the students would be slaughtered one by one. Or there was the possibility of her dying. Now Mary is in a tight situation. All she can hope is the Lupins will understand at the end when the students lives are saved. Mary detests James Blood because of his heartless blackmail.
