Charms Class - Group Three Empty Charms Class - Group Three

Amelia gazed down at the register for her next class. The list was dominated with Ravenclaws, which was a good thing, lately the classes at Hogwarts had been mixed to create inter-house relationships but it was nice to see the odd class with only students of a particular house - and what better than Ravenclaw her own! Amelia already was thinking about how the class would bond over the year.

Sadly one of the students would not be present: Bertie Nogard. On the first of September she had received two owls: one from Sophia Granger, healer at St Mungo's and the other from Bertie's Mother. The night before Bertie would be boarding the train for Hogwarts he had been rushed to hospital with a magical bug that had started to eat away his organs, starting with his stomach before progressing to the liver and kidneys. On top of that he also seemed to have the green itch - a nasty disease that had suddenly plagued the wizarding world. Such a terrible feat for a boy of fourteen. Despite that Amelia was pleased to hear that he had made a recovery but would be staying in St Mungo's for two weeks until he was at full strength.

Being a Mother herself and losing a child Amelia knew exactly what his family were going through. Even hearing the words 'he is okay' still sounded somewhat hostile. She remembered taking Toby to the hospital when he was bitten by a snake, such an adventurous pair her children were. No had been. She only had Hallie now, who like her Father had been, was still adventurous.

'Good morning!' Amelia announced to the first student who had arrived for their first period charms class. Without Bertie, though he was supposedly excellent at charms judging by his school records, it meant the class would be entirely populated by NEWT students so they would be able to begin some advanced charms!

If Rika was not a coward, then she would have done lots of things.

Not gotten her sister killed, was one. Not avoided her brother's existence was another. Wrung Henri Finch's neck till she choked to death also sounded rather appealing. Jumping off the Ravenclaw tower however, would have to top the list.

More significantly in context with her present situation, when the Charms Professor oh-so-delightedly wished her a good morning, she would not have remained quiet.

She would have agitatedly ran fingers through her hair, tangling it up even more. She would have slammed books on desk, smashed an inkpot or two, dangled the Professor upside down (okaaaay....now this really was getting a bit too much. She didn't have enough control over her magic to dangle a cauldron, forget a Professor). After all, it wasn't a good morning. Not in the slightest. Not when she was forced to come back to this place when she thought she had been free from it forever. Not when her lovely brother surprised her with his presence at the Feast (what in the name of all that was holy was he doing here anyway?) And definitely not when she, a very healthily haphephobic person, was greeted by big, bold Daily Prophet headlines in the morning stating 'Matrimonium Legem'.

Good morning. Phut.

But the crux of the matter was....she was a coward. So she murmured, "Good morning" and sat down in one of the corner seats.

Amelia smiled as the first student muttered a good morning. Bless her, she did seem rather shy - a shy Ravenclaw, judging by her robes and tie, there was a surprise. Amelia had been in Ravenclaw her said and knew far too well how many shy and independant people there were in the house. On the other hand when grouped together with those who shared their interests they tended to get on extreamly well.

'What other subjects are you studying?' Amelia asked conversationally to the Ravenclaw whilst they waited for the other students to arrive. Although she could tell the student most likely wanted to keep herself to herself Amelia thought it only polite to try and make her feel comfortable, after all she had once been like the girl before her and if it hadn't been for her Gryffindor boyfriend Lord knows she still may have been like that.

Furthermore the girl hadn't been at the Ravenclaw 'workshop' so Amelia had no clue who she was, nor what her goals were. As Ravenclaw Head of House, she felt oblidged to show interest, get to know the students and gear them with the tools and information that they would need for their chosen career paths. Perhaps it would have been better to have handed out questionnaires a breakfast asking them those sort of questions rather than hosting an unpopular workshop, but non the less, the workshop had set up some solid foundations between Professor Cooper and a handful of Ravenclaw's.

(hope you don't mind I refer to erika as logan friend/ex-crush)
Logan had fallen asleep in a chair in the common room.He took his timetable and saw he had his first class with his head of house. He smelled his breath and thought "Bad idea going out like this."He brushed his teeth and looked up at his hair and he said to himself"and like this."Seeing that his hair was a mess he arranged it so he looked as formal as possible. He walked down from the Ravenclaw tower to the second floor and he entered the charms class. He saw Erika Dixon his former crush and his actual friend.Well he got over her because he didn't want to ruin anything, but right now he was torn between two other Ravenclaws,Adrienne and Jamie. He was torn but it was obvious he had more chance with Jamie than with Adrienne.

"Hello Professor,Hello Rika."He sat next to her hoping she wouldn't mind he just wanted to sit next to a friend since he knew Jamie wasn't here nor was Lucca. He actually appreciated Rika's company but he wasn't as close with her as he was with Jamie.

Maura woke up in panic mood, something that happened to Maura in a long time. Quickly getting up she quickly took a shower and brushed her teeth and put her on her Hufflepuff robe before heading out. Realizing she forgotten her books, Maura turned back around and headed upstairs getting her books and her wand. Looking at the mirror that wasn't to far from her she seen her hair was still wet and in a towel. "Ugh... what a horrible morning!"Maura cried to herself as she flicked her wand at her hair making it go dry and curly.

Checking to see that she had everything, Maura finally headed out and quickly towards the great hall to get some toast to go. Rushing out of the Great Hall she ran upstairs knocking over a few people in the process. Simply apologizing she made it to the second floor out of breath. She knew that she shouldn't be running, but she hated being late. "Sorry I'm late Professor Cooper!"said Maura softly as she took her normal spot.

Brushing the hair out of her eyes she sighed when she seen none of her friends were here. "Another lonely class."Maura told herself sighing. The only person to keep her some what company was Professor Cooper. Although Maura only knew her through Hallie, but she did enjoy having tea with her. They were becoming quite close, and Maura really looked up to her.

'Hello Logan.' Amelia replied as another one of her Ravenclaw's entered the classroom and took a seat besides Erika. It was nice to see that after twenty four years the house of Ravenclaw were still friendly with one another. Of course they were never like the family-like Hufflepuff's, the stuck-like-glue Gryffindor's or the stronger-circle of Slytherins but they were friendly with each other.

For the first time all lesson a real, genuine smile escaped her lips. Maura Goldstein had arrived. Amelia wasn't one to show favourites and would keep the fact Maura held a special place in her heart quiet from the other students. Maura was her daughters best friend and she knew only too well the amount of trouble she'd landed herself in. Especially recent trouble at the shrieking shack. Since hearing the story Amelia felt somewhat protective over Hallie's friend, like an auntie.

'That's quiet alright, Maura.' Amelia replied. 'I was just about to get started.' Now that most of the class arrived it was time. Time for the NEWT speech. Most of the students present were sixth years and as this was their first charms class it only made sense to inform them of what was to come - even for Maura the seventh year it would be a good reminder to put her in the NEWT mindset.

Making her way around Amelia leant lightly on her desk with her wand out, held losely in her hand that rested above her knee. 'Welcome to charms! My name if Professor Cooper, some of you-' her eyes rested upon Maura, 'will already know me but I hope by the end of the year we are all on good terms. Now, unlike your previous years at Hogwarts charms is no longer what students call a 'soft' option. We will be delving into the most powerful of enchantments, understanding the complexity of spells and learning charms that you would probably never dreamed existed.'

It all sounded rather grand and dramatic the way the words flowed from her mouth. 'Which is why you'll need to pay extra attention and work twice as hard as you did with your OWL's, which I might add you all did brilliantly in havign read your results.'

Amelia smiled before raising her wand and moving a book from the bookshelf to hover besides her. 'The first chapter of work we'll look at are protective enchantments. Now, to get your brains in gear I think we'll do a bit of thinking!'

The book began to turn over in the air and make it's way around the room, passing under each of the students faces. The titled read Moste Powerful Of Enchantments. 'This book is an extreamly rare, powerful book that had both knowledge and unbearable temptation lying within it's pages. The most intellectual and powerful wizards around the world all want this book, which means I will need to hide it. Conceal it. Cast upon it all of the most powerful protective enchantments. Does anybody know any ways already in which we could protect this book?' Professor Cooper asked, hoping that the lesson would be both interesting and entertaining. After all, she needed some way to stop their brains melting at the prospect of NEWT work.

(ooc: I couldn't be bothered doing a register she'll do it when class is over haha)

Maura smiled at Professor Cooper as he mentioned her. But she knew that she wasn't going to be one of her favorite students without trying. Although Maura was up to becoming on of her favorite students. Listening to her speech Maura nodded. She was going to do everything in her power to graduate, even if she was pregnant with a baby. Nothing was going to stop her from being a healer or auror.

As Professor Cooper asked what they could do to protect the book. Maura knew of a couple of Charms that they could use to keep the book safe. Maura was VERY good at Charms, it was rather a gift she had. Thinking of two Charms she could use, Maura raised her hand waiting for Professor Cooper to call on her. Although she hoped her answers were correct though, but that what she would do to keep the book safe.

Amelia smiled as Maura raised her hand, as expected. Professor Cooper didn't need to have read Maura's student records to know she had a talent for charms Hallie had told her enough times. She had loved to listen to Hallie talk about her friends, it reminded Amelia that, despite the darkness, there was still light, love and hope in the world.

'Yes Maura?' Amelia asked, knowing that Maura would most likely give one of the many ways to protect the book. After all that was the beauty of charms, there were so many of them!

Well... Professor there's two ways that I would protect the book."said Maura softly. "I would use the Disillusionment Charm to make the book become invisible or Geminio which Creates unless duplicates."said Maura softly. She hoped she gotten both answers right, she was sure she gotten at lease one of them right. Maura was sure Professor Cooper looked at her records or Hallie told her how good she was in Charms, after all she always talked to Hallie in letters and face to face. She was rather please that Professor Cooper called on her to answer the question, she thought she would ignore her due to being rather good at Charms.

Amelia let out a grin. It was the proud mama bear feeling inside of her to see Maura's talents for charms in person. The two spells that Maura had suggested were indeed correct and were more of the subtle answers, in fact Amelia was expecting her to say a protective spell such as protego horribilus or salvia hexia.

'Excellent Maura. You could use both of the spells.' Amelia replied. 'Five points to Hufflepuff.' She added as the book came to a hault before Amelia.

'The disillusionment charm, quiet obviously would make the book invisible meaning it would be a hard job for people to find it.' Amelia announced as she tapped the book and said the word: 'Praestigium' With that the book slowly, from the center became invisible.

'I could now hide the book and nobody would know where it is but me.' Moving her wand the book came to rest, hidden, on the table in front of Erika Dixon. With a wave of her wand the spell was removed, revealing the book.

Amelia walked to stand in front of Erika's table, pointing her wand at the book. 'Geminio.' The book soon split off into two, then four, then six. With a wave of her wand the books began to soar around the room before landing neatly in a line on Amelia's desk, which she had now returned to.

'As Maura stated, nobody can tell which book is the real one.' With a wave of her wand Amelia cast evanesco to vanish the fakes. 'Of course, there are more enchantments we coudl use.

Waving her wand once more the book rested on a stand by the window. 'I could surround the book with protective enchantments like those of Hogwarts. I could stop people apparating beside it, prevent people of a certain age from reaching it by the means of an age line. I could cast an anti-summoning charm upon the book or if I wanted I could place a caterwauling charm over the books surroundings to set off an alarm when anyone was nearby then, I would know someone was trying to rob it.' Amelia announced her eyes alive with passion for her love of advanced charms.

'Or.' Amelia summoned the book and let it land in front of Maura. 'I could pretend it was another book.' With a wave of her wand the book's title changed to Standard Book Of Spells Grade 1. 'The book was never special after all.' She smiled.

'Now. Seeing as Maura so cleverly informed us of the disillusionment charm I think we should make a start there!' Amelia announced, waving two more books from the bookshelf to land in front of Erika and her fellow Ravenclaw.

'We will start on small inanimate objects before progressing onto larger objects then even onto ourselves.' Amelia smiled, hoping to excite the students at the prospect of making themselves temporarily invisible.

'Now. The incantation. Praestigium!' Amelia told the class very clearly. 'Praestigium, now you try - without wands.' Amelia said. It was important they mastered the incantation before using wands otherwise something else could happen...
