Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. A risk worth taking - Page 2 Empty Re: A risk worth taking

Post by Silvyr Svan Thu May 02, 2013 5:39 am

After awhile silence took the place of fear. The last door SIlvyr had passed had been marked 1532. A dark hallway stretched before him as he continued to make his way through the halls of the merciless prison. Footsteps that he knew could only be his own at this point echoed around him. 'Am I getting closer?' he thought to himself. His survival instincts were screaming for him to stop giving away his position to some form of ambush. He knew this couldn't be the case. Not with the proud wolf strutting before him. He realized while walking behind the beautiful beast that it had been keeping him closer to his sanity. But he wasn't sure if watching the patronus move through the hall was keeping him alert or hypnotizing him into a dull stupor.

Silvyr knew internally how long he had been searching. His days scouting out random areas of forests had taught him the importance of tracking his own fatigue. What he hadn't accounted for was the exhaustion he had already fought through just to make it to the doorsteps of the isolated isle. Thought's began to creep into his mind as he rounded another corner and again found only darkness. 'How long have I been searching?' He answered his own thoughts quickly, 'For a short while. Relax you have to keep your head on straight to get out of here alive.' Immediately another question spoke out using his voice though it sounded distraught and twisted. 'What are the odds you even make it out alive? Brave fool.' He couldn't answer the question. He fought to come up with somthing but the answers seemed to tear him down little by little internally.

The only thing he could do was stop. Silvyr bent down and closed his eyes trying to figure out what was happening to his mind. A soft wrattling of chains alarmed him enough to jump back causing him to slam into a cell door. Wild screams of panic from the inmate inside ensued. Silvyr jumped back into the middle of the hallway and checked his surroundings. Cells lined the walls for as far as his eyes could see in front and behind him. It was like veil had been lifted from over his eyes. He looked up at the stone block above the cell, 561. Confusion took over replacing his disturbed thoughts. Why hadn't he seen the cells lining the walls? This must have been what the world spoke of when they whispered about Azkaban. No one could avoid the effects that the most disturbed and isolated place in the wizarding world had on the mind.

Silvyr began to turn on his heels when a glimpse of light ran into the hall forty feet down the way he had been facing. He spun around completely to face the same way once again and took off without a thought. For all he knew he it could have been his mind playing tricks on him but he was willing to risk it. Dementours moved out of the way of the wolf who was in a full sprint which Silvyr was matching right behind it. He quickly caught up to be behind the Wolfhound but he knew the magical projection would never allow him to catch it until he got to where he needed to be. The next few minutes were filled with rapid turns down seemingly random hallways while sprinting as fast as he could go. Suddenly the wolfhound rounded another random corner and sprinted back towards it's owner. Jack was kneeling in front of a cell and whispering; inaudibly to Silvyr's ears, to what he knew could only be his lord. Aaron Marchetti. A gut wrenching feeling took hold of Silvyr as he came within ten feet of her and the patronus. This was it.

Silvyr took to a slow stride and finally a walk as he approached Jack. He checked over his shoulder once to look for Dementours before kneeling next to his colleague to glimpse at the dark lord for the first time in almost a year. The pile of skin and bones looked nothing of the proud wand maker he had once allowed to search through his thoughts. Aaron's cheeks were hollowed out, eyes sunken in, his hair was long and matted, and his hands and feet were covered in black filth. It seemed that he couldn't keep his head up on his own free will. Every two seconds it fell back slamming onto the stone wall that his back rested on. Silvyr didn't say anything to him knowing but only smiled pitifully. He felt responsible for the state Aaron was in now. The amount of time it had taken him to find the messenger was inexcusable. He turned to Jack and spoke softly. "Alright, are you ready?" he said as he felt the palm of his hand grow moist against his wand.

Jack knew Aaron was not going to be okay for some time. She knew he would need the help of those he trusted to get back to his former state. She could not say his friends because, she had learned the hard way, Aaron had allies but not necessarily friends. She wondered what he would think of her when he finally knew she had rethought her decision to officially take a place under him, and was now operating as leader of the Order of Phoenix. She still thought herself trustworthy to him, and hoped he could see the benefits of a more informal sort of alliance.

Jack had lost a lot of people and she was sick of the consequences. She hoped, once Aaron came back to his former self, she would not be losing anyone else.

Silvyr arrived, looking incredibly agitated. He must have gone deeper into the prison than expected, because he looked a bit shaken from his time wandering. She gave him a bracing expression and stood, withdrawing her own wand as her patronus paced behind her. She looked to him and said, "Yes."

Breathing seemed to be a luxury Silvyr no longer had. The air hung empty in his open mouth while his lunges refused to work as they were supposed to. This was it though and he had no choice but to risk his life while attempting a task known to be impossible. Fighting to gain control of his body Silvyr readjusted his stance and stared at the metal bars that were keeping his Dark Lord caged in. Without another thought he thrust his wand arm angrily forward.

"REDUCTO!" he screamed, blasting the door from one of the hinges connecting it to the wall. The force of the spell left the week metal hanging in a twisted coiled position sagging heavily to the stone floor below.

Time was no longer on their side, not like it was in the first place. Azkaban itself seemed to shake softly while the bars of the cell doors groaned from a new amount of stress being pressed upon them. Silvyr moved into Aaron’s cell and reached under his arm that was protecting his face from the explosion. In one motion he reached across Aaron’s bony back to help support his weight while lifting him from his seated position. The stains that had accumulated on the wall behind where Aaron had sat told Silvyr how many hours his Dark Lord had stayed in the same position. He turned as quickly as he could without hurting the stranged looking man who was resting his head on Silvyr’s shoulder. He rushed towards Jack who was standing at the cell entrance. She turned before he had reached her and took off down the hall. Silvyr took off in a dead sprint doing everything in his power to keep up. Aaron’s head bounced like a rag doll due to the lack of muscle strength needed to keep it steady as it fought the strength of Silvyr’s entire body running as fast as he could. Where they were going was now beyond him and he wasn’t going to risk looking behind them only to see the army of death eaters flying towards them flanking them into a dead end that would undoubtedly come. Silvyr knew that their lives were in Jacks quick thinking hands at this moment.

This part was up to Silvyr. While Jack could have shouldered Aaron's weight, she was sure Silvyr, with is broader shoulders, would be better suited. It would leave her to handle the escape, which she had thought out. She had her plan A, and B, and then her scary, only-if-absolutely-necessary plan C. Her goal was to avoid plan C, but if she had to, she had to. So, she would leave Silvyr to get Aaron to the point where she could take over.

She sprung into action. The second Silvyr reached her, Jack whipped around, immediately sending patronuses down every corridor, to attempt to drive any dementors away. She began running, lighting the unlit torches to try and drive warmth into the forsaken place. Her eyes keenly searched each approaching corridor, making the turns that would drive them to the outer walls. She could hear the whoosh of dementors behind her. One of her larger patronuses arrived, attempting to run in between her party and the dementors, but it was beginning to fade.

She hated Plan C. But they didn't have a choice.

She pointed her wand ahead of her, at the side of a wall. "BOMBARDA MAXIMA! ACCIO BROOMS!" A large hole burst into the wall as rubble rained off of the building. Jack reached back and grabbed Silvyr's arm, and then turned, diving out of the building.

There was that surreal moment of falling, where it seemed like the brooms would not come. But Jack's broom was quick, and sped underneath her. She held to Silvyr and pulled him and his precious cargo onto the broom with her. It caught their fall briefly, but the weight caused the broom to sink and slow. The other broom pulled up beside them and Jack yelled over the roaring wind to Silvyr. "I'LL TAKE AARON! GET AS FAR AS YOU CAN, THEN APPARATE!"

Every Dementor seemed to be bearing down on the four of them as Silvyr ran with Aaron on his shoulder. Jack’s patronuses were doing all they could but it seemed their luck was running out quicker than they had hoped. Screeching sounds caused by death filled the place where feelings of panic had once been. Jack began to move further and further ahead forcing Silvyr to push even harder. The ache from his frozen dead legs had doubled since landing on the shores of the retched prison.

A blast in the wall ahead of them woke Silvyr from his stupor. Jack had stopped next to the massive opening where a wall once stood but by the time he realized what was on the other side of the light there was no way he could stopped his own momentum. Jack grabbed hold of his arm and jumped taking the deathly plunge with them. Hundreds of feet beneath his eyes Silvyr watched white choppy waves rushed against the rocks that they were now seemingly doomed to hit. The free fall made Silvyr think of his Mother and Father who he hadn’t seen in years, his best friend in the world who would never know how he died or where he went, and the man he was willing to die for by his side. Was changing the world for the better still worth any of what he was putting himself through anymore? Freezing air around him blew through his robes causing his limbs to begin the slow return to numb that had been the normal feeling throughout his body on the journey to the prison. All he could hear now was the blowing and whistling sounds made by the air as he fell faster and faster. A stranged sense of hope came to his heart as he imagined that he may not feel any pain when his bones collided with the jagged rocks.

Instinctively closing his eyes when all hope seemed lost was Silvyr’s last form of defense but right before he was able to shut them completely he felt the familiar feeling of a broom stick between his legs. Landing on the unforgiving stick would have made him vomit had he of had anything in his stomach to lose but he hadn’t eaten in days. The broom was fighting it’s hardest though it was losing against the weight of three grown humans. Silvyr’s broom appeared next them and Jack turned around yelling something but Silvyr couldn’t make out the words. Jumping to his broom was the only option he had to save their lives.
Aching knees and wrists fought Silvyr as he brought himself up onto the broom behind Aaron and Jack. The rain and wind hitting his face made lose sight of his broom but he had no choice but to jump. The waves beneath their feet were getting closer. With a leap of faith Silvyr jumped into the clouds next to him where his broom had just been.

In a split second he felt his stomach drop into a new part of his body and he reached through the air finding only moisture before his fingers connected with his broom. Waves smashed through his legs as he kicked to get onto his broom making it twice as hard. Each time his limbs were dunked into the below freezing temperature water he felt himself lose a little bit more control of his motor functions. After thirty seconds of battling Silvyr managed to get onto his broom he pulled up as hard as he could sending himself into the clouds.

Silvyr lept from the broom and they dropped briefly, though Jack quickly adjusted and managed to bring them up. She reached back, holding tightly to Aaron. The dementors were still following but she knew if they got just another few meters out, they would be home free.

She looked back at Silvyr and saw that he had made it, but was struggling. She quickly turned, following, corkscrewing to dodge the dementors. Once Silyvr managed to get a handle on his flight, she sped forward, darting in front of him to lead the way. Just a few minutes of the blistering cold air and they would be home free. Another half mile and they could touch down and apparate elsewhere.
