Welcome to where time stands still

Mathias sat alone in the back corner of the music room, next to a window where a soft light filtered into the room. He had no sheet music. No electronic tuner. It was just him and his cello.

Sitting back in his chair, Mathias positioned his cello and ran the bow over the strings to create a haunting tone, which reverberated around the room. The room had very nice acoustics.

The music filling his soul, Mathias began to play, none the wiser to the world around him. When he played, the song was the only important thing in the world. The earth stopped spinning. There were no cares, no worries. As long as Mathias played, for him, time stood still.

Ryo couldn't believe that he hadn't had the time to visit the music classroom. It had been like a faithful companion to him all thoughout his Hogwarts life. It had been an escape fromt he real world when it got too rough. A place where he could b ehimself and express himself through his music. Something that he rarely got to do anymore.

He hadn't expected his last year to be this hectic, of course you can never expect something like that. It just happened. But the timing was horrible, his last year, the time when he really needed some calmness, that was when his life decided to get hectic. Ryo sighed softly as he walked up to the music classroom. He needed to do something other than sit in the Hufflepuff common room now, something creative, contructive.

As he approached the room, Ryo could hear music coming from inside and it was somewhat familiar. With his drumsticks in hand, his pace quickened as he listened to the faint music, hearing it grow louder as he neared it, Ryo put his hand on the door and pushed it slightly. He poked his head in a bit and he was immediately filled with the music that was being created, causing him to enter the room, though he tried not to bother who was playing.

A small creak of foot on wooden floor could be heard to Mathias' finely tuned ear, and he slowed in his playing; looking up at the new arrival. It was a young man, and if his eyes did not deceive him, the young man was holding a pair of drumsticks.

"Ah, splendid!" Mathias cried, finishing the piece he had been playing with a flourish, "I feel a 'jam' coming on. I assume you do play, if the drumsticks you hold in your hand are any indication."

Mathias leaned forward, holding his arms loosely over his cello, the tip of the bow touching the floor. He regarded the young man with interest, for traffic into the music classroom seemed disappointingly rare. He may just have, standing before him, someone with perhaps a little bit of substance. A rare thing in children now-a-days.

Quelyn carefully, quietly pushed the door of the music room opened hoping it would not squeak and draw attention to her. She peeked into the room and saw a man possibly a professor sitting in the corner with a student not far away. The eleven year old girl inched further into the room staying close to the wall and well away from the other people. Tip toeing towards the piano she smiled a bit running her hand down the wooden top just above the keys that her mother could have played so beautifully. blinking back tears she sighed a frown forming on her face.

Mathias watched as another girl entered the room; this one younger, looking to be a first year. She seemed so timid, so Mathias didn't move and kept his eyes on Ryo lest he startle the poor thing, like a mouse seeing a fearsome cat. He watched her as she caressed the piano. Sensing that she was one to be startled by his sudden outbursts, Mathias remained uncharacteristically silent. Instead of calling out to the girl, he raised his bow and began to play again.

"You should jump on the drums, young man!" he called out to Ryo as he played.

Ryo watched the younger girl, Quelyn, as she had told him to call her, walk over to the piano and caress it, without saying a word to her. He noticed the professor not say anything to her either and he nodded when he said to get on the drums. He walked toward the instrument and sat down, listening a bit before he actually began to play. The good thing was that he knew this song and the beat the drums were supposed to make were familiar to him.

He pressed the foot pedal twice before beginning to drum along to the beat, glancing at Quelyn quickly before looking at the drums and closing his eyes for a few moments.

Looking up Quelyn jumped as music filled the room and the man with the cello called out to the prefect she had seen earlier this week in the entrance hall. The girl backed away from the piano slightly stumbling over her own feet back towards the wall. She hadn't been expecting them to play so loudly and so suddenly yet so beautifully. A smile slowly inched onto her face as she watched the two perform wishing she was as good as they were, but yet she didn't play an instrument. She sang and performed in the only way she knew how. Though her shy side kept her from sharing her talent with the world

Mathias watch the young girl out of the corner of his eye as he played, and was pleased to see her smile. He finished the song and winked at Ryo.

"You have heard my music before, it seems," he stated, "You played as well as Mikko. I shall have to warn him that his position as drummer is now in jeopardy."

Mathias turned towards the young girl.

"I was hoping to hear some piano accompaniment, but perhaps I was rash in believing that you knew how to play. Do you know how to play any instruments? I always adore finding someone new to play with."

Ryo opened his eyes as the song ended and he glanced around from Quelyn to Mathias. He smiled slightly as Mathias complimented the way he played and a light chuckle escaped his lips at his comment about telling Mikko that his job as drummer was in jeopardy. "Thank." he said, somewhat quickly. "I've just been practicing the song a lot." he told him.

He didn't mention that he was a fan of the music, though he was. And it was probably easy to tell, considering he knew the beats and he just said that he had been practicing the song.

This was really the only type of music Ryo practiced most of the time. He usually didn't like any other music because it was too different from what he actually knew how to do. He could drum other songs, from different genres, but he didn't really like too.

"N-no Mister," Quelyn stuttered shaking her head. she wanted to hide and disappear. "M-my mum did." She said and glanced over at Ryo the only person in the room she kind of knew, then she looked back over at the man who had addressed her. "S-he taught me some of what she knew vocally and in the a-rt of dance, but she passed away before she taught i was old enough to pay attention enough for the piano. M-music is all i really have left of her. Music and memories." She moved further away from the two yet closer to the door hoping she was being discreet about it.
