Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Ilvermorny Plot: Extended Info

DEAR STUDENTS LEFT AT ILVERMORNY:

After everyone gets into the castle via their courtyards, they'll settle in for the night. But don't be mistaken. By the time night falls, things will only get that much more confusing. As they decide they want to sort something out, dinner-wise, an enormous bolt of lighting flies not into the ground, but upwards, into the sky. It's coming from somewhere above the castle, but the students aren't sure where. All they know is that it's the loudest thing they've ever heard, and that it probably came from outside.

They have no way of knowing, of course, that when they run outside - if they decide they want to investigate - they will find two of their former professors.

Dom Weasley, the semi-useless but entirely charming Groundskeeper that didn't do much but did help students get away with things.

And Declan Arryn, who was hired on as part of a very failed project to teach students how to cook (as he is the owner and head chef at the Leaky), but instead ended up substitute teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts and doing a rather ridiculously miserable job at it.

The big thing about these two? Everybody knew they were together before they did, and the students probably saw them fighting in the hallways at some point or other while they worked stuff out. So, needless to say, these two are not the heroes they were hoping for.

Still. The professors are stuck on the other side of a giant shield, which reaches just to the far side of the train they arrived in, and the one they probably would've expected to be the leader of the bunch is on the ground, essentially convulsing.

WHAT'S NEXT? It's up to the students to figure out first, how to help their professor, but also how to take down the shield, if it's even possible. From there, perhaps they'll look for the student that's figured out how to send letters out. Or perhaps they'll use Declan's knowledge to start making proper meals. Or use what knowledge Dom may or may not have to try and make a garden to grow fresh food since they don't have much of that left. ( #hint )

That's up to you.

[also, this should not interfere with the Courtyard threads. This is a follow-up, and if you wish to post there first you're obviously welcome to, but the Declan/Dom thread met its goal sooner than expected, so we wanted to offer!]

[OPEN/ALL] A train on the lawn

Scarlett stepped past the gates of Ilvermorny castle, feeling something a bit strange pass over her. It felt wrong somehow but when she turned back around, she couldn't see the other Ilvermorny students anymore. When she made to pass through them again, she couldn't. ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) Frustrated, she moved towards the train, wand aloft.

As she approached, a blonde girl was sticking her head out and that Casey girl from Hogwarts was there, jumping on board the train. Confused though she was, she moved closer.

"Who are you?" She shouted, glaring at the girl who she frightened into backing away from the doors.

Inside, Katherine gawped at the girl coming towards her. Another thing she noticed: Casey was familiar. Hogwarts familiar. Hadn't she gone away for a year to that other school? If that's where they were, she was glad to have been told she couldn't go abroad.

Except here they were.

Scarlett looked up and down the train, trying to guess how many students would be there, if that's what these people were. So many, she decided. Where on earth would they all go once whatever was about to happen was over?

Nicole jumped out of the train, holding her wand up as well, though with vastly less confidence than the older girl. "We're from Hogwarts," she explained. "Our train just- well, we aren't sure what happened. We are supposed to be at the train station, not here."

"Well," Scarlett replied, clearly confused. "I hate to say it," and she really did, "but it looks like y'all will be stuck here for a while. None of us could go home either. A lot of things are going wrong. Professors haven't been around for weeks. No real food, freezing castle, everything. Can't even get letters home," she claimed, shaking her head. Looking back at one of the gates behind her she added, "I think something's weird about the gates, too, actually."

Scarlett squinted at the gates but turned back, looking up at the students still on the train. "Maybe they think you're a threat."

Ilvermorny Plot: Extended Info

BONUS UPDATE:

A lot of questions have been asked in the cbox lately, so I thought I'd take a bit of advice from Jackles and put this up for you early.

As some of y'all know, there are threads happening both at Platform 9 and 3/4, as well as at Ilvermorny. We really need people to get involved with those in order for the plot to go anywhere. Please, please, please go stick some characters there and post with us. The more the merrier, and the better the site plot will work.

That said, it's been made clear to the staff that, because the plots are kept fairly secret in order to create a sense of suspense around the site, it makes it hard for characters to get involved. We've discussed finding a way to point folks in the right direction, and I inadvertently found a way that I'd like to try out. At least for a little while, as a test run.

In this post, here, where I explain what's going on with the Order (so you probably should read it Wink ), I was joking when I typed in #hint. But then I realized it would come up as a tag, like on social media. So any time I make a suggestion meant to drive the plot, I'll include that tag. Clicking it now and then will probably help you get your character involved.

We're also going to leave hints at the start of big threads to let people know what they're looking for, for example, if there's something specific to be found. Reading threads that include big moments in the plot will be helpful, too, because often times important clues are mentioned IC for plotting purposes and it'll help you get some ideas. A lot of those will be mentioned in this thread as time goes on, but if you want info quicker, look for the most active characters and see what they're up to!

It's kind of like a scavenger hunt, I guess!

That said, I really would like feedback on this thread and the tag system once that gets going, so PMs sent my way would be great. If I need to edit the formatting or something isn't clear, we'd like to know sooner rather than later so that the Admin team can best help your character development through this plot.

HAPPY PLOTTING!

The Order and the Death Eaters

Right, folks. The factions have been dead for like a year now, and it's time to change that. Aye? Here's what's going on with the Order.

NOTE: Things listed below are NOT public knowledge, meaning that only a few characters who have interacted with the ones mentioned below can possibly know about them IC. Or, they haven't happened IC yet. But I want people to have an idea of what's going on. It's hard to keep something a secret IC when people don't know it's a secret, y'know?

Firstly, Oliver is leading the Order again, but only the active members are aware of this. He won't be telling anyone he doesn't trust, and will let them know not to mention it. It's going to be in the Order members' best interest to earn his trust if they want to be heavily involved. He's pretty trusting, Hufflepuff to the max and whatnot, but some people do strike him as untrustworthy. Last time he was in charge, he made a lot of enemies, and has no intention of letting them know what he's up to. His girlfriend has gotten in too deep in the past and he won't let her get hurt because of him.

That said, he's going to hold a meeting for the Order, explaining the plans he's about to make IC with Declan Arryn and Dom Weasley. He's also going to make it clear to the members that he doesn't want anyone to know who's in charge or on the council he's building.

Re: The Council thing real quick - I would choose the most active members writing characters of the Order to include here, but we have so many new members that I'd rather Oliver bring on people that interact with him IC in a positive way regarding the Order. Ya dig? More fun for everybody. Plus, incentive to stay active. Remember that members who don't post IC as that character for two months lose their job/leadership claims, including council spots. And, for those who don't know, the council is a new thing Oliver is bringing in where, although he's leading things, he's kind of like a tie-breaker among four council members (So, five total, including the leader) who all sort of discuss stuff before bringing it in front of the group. That's not to say that other members have zero say in what happens. If people reject the plan it obviously won't go through. But it does open up some plotting and that's the ideal.

Second, Those plans he's making with Dec and Dom (aka Domlan)? He's sending them to Ilvermorny because of the Hogwarts exchange students going last year but being missing now for so long. He's actually going to find out about the train disappearing once they meet with him since he wasn't at the scene or anything, but they won't be able to get a letter back to Oliver so he won't actually know that the train showed up at Ilvermorny.

Letters don't get through except under certain circumstances that, I assure you, will be made clear once the student thread at Ilvermorny gets finished and the folks on the UK side start their hunt. We want to give everyone time to play out those bits first, y'know? But there is one character at Ilvermorny that knows how to get letters in and out because she did it on accident. And she's not sharing that info right now. So plotting with them might help you. #hint Wink

Aaaaand lastly, another thing known to absolutely no one IC (unless you count an NPC I have), is that Scarlett Duffy is the daughter of Augustus Rookwood. So if the Death EAters didn't care before, they might have a reason to if he gets upset about it. @Elijah Krum (Eli) knows, obviously, as Augustus is her character, so that's sort of up to her. But if you want to get involved in the Order and what's going on there, let me know or suggest things and we'll see what we can do, yeah?

What I'd really like is for the Death Eaters and the Order to be forced to work together on this, and then perhaps at the end someone (or a whole faction) betrays the other in some way and starts a proper, full-on feud, if not a war. That's not something that's been decided, though, so if it doesn't work that's fine. But it would be nice to have a reason for them to exist again.
