About A Girl [A "Flashback" Thread]

[Seven years ago]

“Good morning, Ms. Dimitry, just here to check up on you,” A young man with long, messy brown hair and kind brown eyes greeted as he walked into the Hospital Room, a pen held in-between his teeth and a stuffed animal held in one of his hands. He was wearing Muggle clothes, but there was still a Healer’s nametag pinned to his shirt which confirmed that his name was Calvin Ransom.

The man stepped forward and set the plush creature- which was shaped like a character from one of Calvin’s favorite videogames- next to the patient who was lying in her hospital bed, and checked the patient’s monitors as he had done for the past month- for the time he had been completing his Healer training, Calvin had been assigned to look over Ms. Dimitry everyday and make sure her heart was still beating just fine. He grabbed his pen from his mouth and started jotting information down on his exposed arm, his penmanship rather sloppy, though he would be able to read it himself later, and that was really the only point.

“Alright, you seem to be doing just fine, Eleni, I’ll read your monitors again before I go home,” he spoke to the girl even though he was sure that he could not hear his voice; the female had been in a comma ever since Calvin had arrived at the hospital to train to become an employee there. Calvin was one of the only people in the entire hospital who had faith that Ms. Dimitry would ever open her eyes again, and therefore was really the only one who ever spoke to her. He himself hadn’t known her before she had slipped into a comma, but with Calvin, that really didn’t matter; it was if it was his goal in life to befriend everyone on the planet, as long as they didn’t frighten him, and there was nothing frightening about the sleeping teenager. He grinned, waved, and turned to make his way out of the room.

"Look out!" somebody roars really loudly in Eleni's ears and it echoes too for what seems to be a long time. Eleni looks up and somebody on a broom aims at her and it's then just all blank. A really long blank time with nothing except a deep dark empty wormhole of endlessness.

“Alright, you seem to be doing just fine, Eleni, I’ll read your monitors again before I go home,” a male spoke, but it didn't echo loudly in Eleni's ears nor did it echo for a long time and nor did she look up and see a person on a broom aiming at her to knock her into a deep dark empty wormhole of endlessness.

Eleni coughed weakly and did a quick spastic move with her right hand fingers. She groaned quietly. She was feeling stiff and felt like she could not move. Eleni began to slowly open her eyes. Everything was so blurry and white but she did see something move - a person, she was sure of it. She used her right hand and lifted her arm to wipe off any 'sleep' that was around her eyes.

"Hello?" Eleni asked in a small voice, still not having opened her eyes 100%. She wondered where she was and how long it had been since the Quidditch incident. She also wanted to make sure she'd actually seen a person and that it wasn't just a hallucination, or maybe she was in Heaven she began to think.

The young man froze mid-step, one of his feet still hovering a few millimeters above the ground, his eyes wide. He then spun around abruptly, his mouth open a bit, though the corners of his mouth was curled upward into a surprised grin. Calvin stood there like that for a few moments silently, eyeing the patient before him as if he couldn’t comprehend what he had heard, or what he was seeing.

“Ms. Dimitry? Aha! Ms. Dimitry!” he exclaimed and spun on his one foot before running out of the door as fast as his legs would carry him.

“Eleni Dimitry is awake! Eleni is awake!” he called at the top of his lungs as he darted down the white hallways that made up the hospital, his shoes causing him to slide when he cut around a corner- but when he needed to stop, he couldn’t seem to, and collided painfully with the receptionist’s desk. The women who had been sitting behind the desk making phone calls stood up quickly, the shock clear on her face, “Mr. Ransom?” she asked slowly, walking around the round desk to see if he had managed to break anything- though she knew it was likely he had, being as fragile as he was.

Calvin groaned, but despite the pain he was feeling in his wrist and in his head, he shot forward and spoke quickly, “She’s awake, she’s awake- she talked!” and then he fell back down on his back with a soft thud when his skull hit the marble floor. He let out an odd squeak, and hugged his injured wrist close to his chest.

“Alright, you can come in Calvin…” one of the main Healers said with a sigh, clearly not happy to have Calvin to look after; he wasn’t exactly the kind of young man who turned out to be an excellent healer, and quite a few doctors were apprehensive. Calvin fallowed the uniformed man into the room Ms. Dimitry had accompanied for years- or so he had been told, he himself had only been at the hospital for a month or so –with his bandaged arm pressed against his side in order to relieve some of the pain.

The more professional doctor out of the two walked towards the girl’s bed, a file held in one of his hands, his other rested calmly in his pocket; he obviously didn’t believe that the girl had actually regained consciousness. The man stared at the monitors for a few moments and flipped through a few pieces of paper before even glancing at the female, and then exhaled, shaking his head out of disbelief. “You were right, Calvin…”

“I was…? I was! I was right- is she awake, you know, for good?” he asked, his words falling from his lips rather quickly, due to his excitement.

Eleni's eyes opened wider, and she was now seeing properly. Her vision was 100% fine and perfect and she could see all that was around her. She had seen the male's reaction when she'd asked hello. He was so suprised and just looked shocked as well. She watched him run out of the room and heard him say 'Eleni is awake' at the top of his lungs and she chuckled softly and shook her head and looked at her surroundings.

"Come back!" Eleni screamed very weakly, she didn't want to be alone. She wanted the answers to her questions and also she felt like she didn't enjoy being alone. She sighed, and thought she'd just have to wait for him to go and tell the world that she was awake and hopefully he'd come back.

After a few moments, the same male walked in back with another male, but seemed much older than the one who screamed she was awake. She wondered why the older male hadn't believed in the younger male, that she was awake. She was really confused as to how long it had been.

"What happened?" Eleni asked, choking a bit, having trouble speaking. She frowned and waited for somebody to give her a response. She only remembers being taken out by a person on a broom during a Quidditch practise but cannot remember anything before that. She was getting a bit worried now.

“You were in a comma for a few years- Hello, I’m Calvin Secundus Ransom, but people call me Cal- how are you feeling? Oh, see that- yeah, that little green creature right there- that’s a plush version of Yoshi- I got it for you because I figured everyone likes Yoshi, right? You thirsty? I’d sure be thirsty if I’d been asleep for so long!”- but Calvin was interrupted in the middle of his high-speed speech when the other Healer sent the young man a frustrated look, “That is enough, Calvin. Go sit over there or something, write down what I say and hope it actually teaches you something about being a Healer.”

Calvin looked down at the floor, a light shade of pink creeping over his cheeks as he stood there, clearly embarrassed; he had once again bombarded someone with worthless words in order to greet the female the ‘Calvin Way’. He backed up slowly to sit down silently in the nearest chair, only to knock over one of the machines that was monitoring the patient’s every bodily function. He panicked, trying to pick it up only to stumble in the process and fall to the floor once more.

“Ouch…Sorry, sir, I didn’t mean to- I’ll clean this up, uh, when you want- sorry, sorry,” he apologized quickly and decided to sit there on the floor instead of try to get back up, assuming that he would probably just knock something else over, or break something. He held his wrist to his cheek when it throbbed; the Healer who had looked it over had said that he had broken it, but that it would heal, with care, in only a day or two. He sighed and looked up at Eleni, smiling that awkward smile of his, and waved with the hand that he hadn’t managed to injure.

“As Calvin… over here said, you’ve been in a comma for quite a while now- but don’t fret, you have been looked after and nothing seems to be wrong now that you are awake. Can you tell me what you remember?” the healer spoke, each word coming out slowly as if the girl couldn’t understand him.

Calvin took out his pen and started scribbling every word that fell from the doctors lips, on his arm, biting his lip as he concentrated.

Eleni gulped when she heard she'd been in a coma for a few years. What, like 3 years? She wondered how many years. It was horrifying to hear those few words firstly from Calvin. She was feeling..confused and just wanted to know everything that was happening. Eleni then turned to see a green plush creature named Yoshi and grinned. What a strange peculiar creature - she liked it. She then began to think about it, she would like a cup of apple juice right now. Or whatever was available at this facility, of course.

Eleni looked at the doctor and listened to him tell Calvin to sit down and write notes and actually learn to be a healer. She chuckled very quietly to herself. She bit her bottom lips and watched Calvin walk over to the other side of the room only to knock down the machine which made her cringe and almost fear for her life. She watched him just try to get things right but only just left it alone and sat on the ground. She smiled at him when he waved with the hand that wasn't injured.

What a funny, quirky, clumsy guy named Calvin, Eleni thought with a smile and chuckle. She was only awake for a few minutes and already somebody's entertained her and made her smile and laugh. What an unusual hospital she thought, or maybe this was all just in her mind, a dream.

Eleni frowned for a few moments. What did she remember? "Um...I'm Eleni Dimitry..I'm a girl..." Eleni told the doctor, a bit shy and scared because that is all she could remember. She gulped and felt like crying and just wanting to just be in the coma than awake. "A person on a broom aiming at me...then I wake up here," Eleni shrugged.

"How many years has it been?" Eleni asked. She needed to know, she wasn't a 16 year old girl anymore. She looked at her arms, hands and fingers. Lifted her pink hair and then saw her toes, feet and legs when she lifted the blankets up and then put it back down. "How old am I?" Eleni asked.
