What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Davina was on her way into Hogsmeade. She had decided that she needed to go out for a while. She was carrying her satchel over her shoulder. Even though she wouldn't need any of her schoolbooks in Hogsmead, she decided to take them anyway. They were like a part of her, a part of her which she didn't want to leave behind and unguarded in the castle. Most people would think she was a geek, a nerd, a know-it-all, etc. for doing this. She'd heard all the names before, infact, she didn't seem to mind being called these names by now. She had just accepted the fact that she was extremely clever and loved it. Anyone else was probably just jealous of her.

Davina tripped over as she got to the bottom of the stairs on her way into the Entrance hall. She cursed in her head as she stumbled. She was sure someone would laugh at her for this. Someone always did. Half of her books fell out of her back. She had to crouch down on the floor to pick them all up. She swore she could hear some people laughing at her. Then again, this wasn't that unusual either. People tended to laugh at her a lot. It wasn't exactly the nicest life, if you thought about it. She didn't think about it though. Davina worked. That was her chosen way of life.

Jazz was coming in from his early morning jog around the lake. He was in a hurry to get to the great hall. He really needed food in his system after the workout he had had. As he entered the Entrance hall he could not help but see the figure that fell coming down the stairs. A snicker escaped his lips before he even saw who it was.

He looked closer and saw that it was Davina. Little miss smartie ravie. He thought to himself. Where could she be off to this early. The library was in the other direction. Then he saw what was scattered across the floor of the hall. Books. Of course there would be books.

"Are you taking your books for a walk, Davina?" He had to ask. It was way to easy.

Davina was picking up her books when she heard someone say her name. She looked up to see who it was. Jasper. Black. That arrogant Slytherin boy who was constantly trying to be "cool", she remembered. She thought he was quite stupid though. He did work in class but his marks were nowhere near as good as hers. He wasn't very nice either. He was always horrible to her, just because she was clever. He often laughed at her and made snide comments. Just like he was doing now.

Davina was already in a bad mood that day. She hadn't had time to read ahead in her Charms textbook yet and she had completely forgotten about the Transfigution club she attended. She was hoping to become the club leader the following year, so she really couldnt afford to miss many sessions.

"Just because you can't read doesn't mean the rest of the world is illiterate," Davina snapped back at him as she stuffed the rest of the books into her back. It had taken her ages to put all of her books back in her bag, as they were in a specific order. She needed an order otherwise they wouldn't all fit in, as she had so many of them. Knowing Black though he would find it funny to try and make the books all fall out again.

Jazz leaned against the part of the wall he was closest to. He watched as Davina bent down to pick up her books. If was someone other than her, he might actually help. But nah, not for her. So he just watched. Plus he had already done his work for the day.

He continued to stare. Then she said it. "I can't read. You think I can't read." Jazz said with a snap. That brought him up from where he was. "Just because I do not walk around every day and every moment with my nose shoved so far into a book that I couldn't see straight doesn't mean I can't read." He told her in a voice that was barely above a whisper.

He watched he struggle to get her books back in her bag. It seemed that she was having a little trouble with it. The made his day even better. He stood thinking what he could do that would get him into the least amount of trouble.

Davina was glad when she got her last book inside her bag. Phew, she thougt to herself. It took a lot of organisation to her books back in place, but she had finally done it. She got up and stood face to face with Black. That boy. She detested him. A nicer person would have helped her to pick up her books, but he just stood their and watched her to it all herself. She could tell that he was enjoying seeing her pick everything up, which made it even worse.

Well, maybe he could read, she thought to herself. Not much more than fairy tales though, probably. She just wanted to do well at Hogwarts and get good grades. What was wrong with that? She liked reading, what was wrong with that? Nobody got teased for chatting to friends or playing games. Reading was what she found fun and relaxing, why did she get teased for that? She didn't understand their minds, they were completely illogical.

"I like reading. Simple." she stated, "It also helps me with my studies, because unlike most people here I'm going to get all Oustandings on my OWLs." she replied, her temper slowly rising. Who did he think he was to critisize her reading?

"Oh. Excuse me. I forgot we are all the stupid people." Jazz said staring at her. He hated the way she acted as if the rest of Hogwarts we just plain stupid. He had a life. He didn't need to cling to a book for support. He wasn't at Hogwarts to get prefect grades.

"What do your prefect grades give you? How is that going to help you out there" Jazz asked pointing in the direction of the grounds. "Grades don't mean anything there." He asked staring at her. This was never something he understood.

This angered Davina even more. She hadn't even said the word stupid. He could get all As which isn't stupid, just average. She was just exceptional, that was what she mean. Typical of a Slytherin boy to assume she meant the worst. He hadn't listened to a word she said. What would it take for him to take anything in that she said? Could anything get her words inside that thick head of his? She didn't think that there was a very good chance.

"I never said you were stupid, I said I was clever. There is a difference, you know," she retorted angrily. Black wound her up so much it was unbelievable. It was like he was asking for an argument. Sure as hell, he was going to get one.
"Grades get you jobs and jobs get you money. Money gets you a lot of places out there." she replied smugly. It was completely true. Grades helped you to get jobs and jobs got money. You couldn't survive without money in today's society, that was for sure.

Jazz narrowed his eyes on Davina. Just like he to think that only grades could get you things that other stuff could as well. He hated the way she thought that she was always right. And she thought she was clever, ha. That was the funniest thing he has ever heard.

"You clever. HA!!!." Jazz said laughing. His voice almost carrying thoughout the entire hall. He grabbed his side. He just could not help his self. "Clever, no. Just because you have book smarts. That doesn't make you clever." Jazz took a small step toward Davina.

Jazz reached with one hand as if to touch her head. "No what makes you clever is how you use these smarts you have all bottled up in that little brain of yours." Jazz stopped his hand just before it touched her and turned back to the window. "It matters out there."

Slowly he turned back to her. They were standing almost within touching distance now. Jazz crossed his arms. Staring at Davina. "I don't have to have all the book sense in the world to know that I can have a good job out of here."

Davina couldn't stand the way he talked to her. It was so patronizing, he treated her like she was a baby. She was older than him as well. How dare he treat her like that? He didn't think she was clever. What on earth did he know about her? Ok, on some level he may be right on which cleverness wasn't purely written down on paper, it was partly on it's application to the real world. He had no idea how good Davina was at that though so he had no right to judge her on it. None at all and she would make sure he knew that.

"Why do you think that I can't apply my brains to the real world?" she asked him in her usual obvious way. "You barely know me, all you do is stop and laugh at me." she pointed out to him. "I could be amazing at apply theories to the real world but you would never know about it, as you never read anything unless you have to." she finished, quite pleased with her argument. She thought she was right. She knew it. She smiled to herself.

Jazz nodded at Davina as she stood in front of him complaining. Of course she had to be right again. As always. She could possiblity be a decent person and friend if she didn't think that she was always right. No matter what others thought she had to be right.

"Yea you are right. I am not a big reader. I have a life outside of these." He said as he tapped his finger on her bag. "I don't hide behind a book afriad to be around people. Scared that people will think I'm wierd or different." He told her. Watching his words sink in.
