Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

The Order and the Death Eaters Empty The Order and the Death Eaters

Post by Daphne Morgenstern Sun Aug 14, 2016 7:00 am

Right, folks. The factions have been dead for like a year now, and it's time to change that. Aye? Here's what's going on with the Order.

NOTE: Things listed below are NOT public knowledge, meaning that only a few characters who have interacted with the ones mentioned below can possibly know about them IC. Or, they haven't happened IC yet. But I want people to have an idea of what's going on. It's hard to keep something a secret IC when people don't know it's a secret, y'know?

Firstly, Oliver is leading the Order again, but only the active members are aware of this. He won't be telling anyone he doesn't trust, and will let them know not to mention it. It's going to be in the Order members' best interest to earn his trust if they want to be heavily involved. He's pretty trusting, Hufflepuff to the max and whatnot, but some people do strike him as untrustworthy. Last time he was in charge, he made a lot of enemies, and has no intention of letting them know what he's up to. His girlfriend has gotten in too deep in the past and he won't let her get hurt because of him.

That said, he's going to hold a meeting for the Order, explaining the plans he's about to make IC with Declan Arryn and Dom Weasley. He's also going to make it clear to the members that he doesn't want anyone to know who's in charge or on the council he's building.

Re: The Council thing real quick - I would choose the most active members writing characters of the Order to include here, but we have so many new members that I'd rather Oliver bring on people that interact with him IC in a positive way regarding the Order. Ya dig? More fun for everybody. Plus, incentive to stay active. Remember that members who don't post IC as that character for two months lose their job/leadership claims, including council spots. And, for those who don't know, the council is a new thing Oliver is bringing in where, although he's leading things, he's kind of like a tie-breaker among four council members (So, five total, including the leader) who all sort of discuss stuff before bringing it in front of the group. That's not to say that other members have zero say in what happens. If people reject the plan it obviously won't go through. But it does open up some plotting and that's the ideal.

Second, Those plans he's making with Dec and Dom (aka Domlan)? He's sending them to Ilvermorny because of the Hogwarts exchange students going last year but being missing now for so long. He's actually going to find out about the train disappearing once they meet with him since he wasn't at the scene or anything, but they won't be able to get a letter back to Oliver so he won't actually know that the train showed up at Ilvermorny.

Letters don't get through except under certain circumstances that, I assure you, will be made clear once the student thread at Ilvermorny gets finished and the folks on the UK side start their hunt. We want to give everyone time to play out those bits first, y'know? But there is one character at Ilvermorny that knows how to get letters in and out because she did it on accident. And she's not sharing that info right now. So plotting with them might help you. #hint Wink

Aaaaand lastly, another thing known to absolutely no one IC (unless you count an NPC I have), is that Scarlett Duffy is the daughter of Augustus Rookwood. So if the Death EAters didn't care before, they might have a reason to if he gets upset about it. @Elijah Krum (Eli) knows, obviously, as Augustus is her character, so that's sort of up to her. But if you want to get involved in the Order and what's going on there, let me know or suggest things and we'll see what we can do, yeah?

What I'd really like is for the Death Eaters and the Order to be forced to work together on this, and then perhaps at the end someone (or a whole faction) betrays the other in some way and starts a proper, full-on feud, if not a war. That's not something that's been decided, though, so if it doesn't work that's fine. But it would be nice to have a reason for them to exist again.

The Order and the Death Eaters Empty Re: The Order and the Death Eaters

Liesel sounds great. Jack and I have decided upon a plot that may actually end up being something that could help re-start that war between them, but with the twist that the Order might be the one actively attacking first. So that could be fun. Hopefully she'll get a lot of action with that. It probably won't happen until after Ilvermorny, though, the bit with Jack. Did you want anything specific for her re:Death Eaters right now, though?

I'm also fine with Selwyn causing trouble, but he won't know for sure that Oliver is leading the charge. At least, not for a while. The ideal would be for him to remain unknown for quite a while, because, arguably, the Order should be way more secretive than it has been. I think the only people who will actually know he's in charge are the ones on the council. What are your thoughts about Oliver acting like a normal member but actually being head guy to keep that quiet? I only just thought of it and it might be interesting.

I'm fine with Percy on the council but we need to give him and Oliver some backstory if Ollie is gonna trust him with that info. Or trusted to be a member, for that matter.

@Jack Dyllan what do you think about a fake Oligarchy for the Order? Like, Oliver would ask them to legitimately help him make decisions but Jack and Percy and two others would be the faces of the meetings.

Re:our skype chat - Oliver will pretend to be just a member and the four council folks will be the discussion leaders in meetings. But when people start to suspect Oliver, she'll claim she's back in charge and the council is just a front. But hopefully that won't happen until after the conflict starts and Ilvermorny is sorted out

and for it to only be so when it's possible their enemies might get Oliver's name. Jack doesn't want the job but is willing to take on the danger.

No, that's fine for Percy! I was thinking on a personal level they might need something because Oliver isn't sure that folks in the Order really approved of him as a leader. If nothing else, maybe Oliver approaches him about it because he needs the support of a more established member.

As for the who's in charge thing, if Selwyn never heard that he left, that's fine. But I had imagined that he did so fairly publicly to make sure no one came to him about Order stuff. Still, he could've missed it if you want. The Jack thing works, even if he just assumed it before she's claimed she's running things. I'm trying to build up to something big after Ilvermorny, maybe with little things that make people question the factions until something snaps. I've got an idea for that but it may or may not work so I'm holding off on planning out the exact details and stuff. It's a plot bunny thing right now lol.

But yeah, I really want the two sides to think the other deserves to be either watched or attacked or whatever. Way more than what we have going on right now, regardless.

The Order and the Death Eaters Empty Re: The Order and the Death Eaters

Post by Judah Montague Thu Aug 18, 2016 12:50 am

If I have missed a thread or hint that has already been posted in regards to / covering my questions below, please let me know (I have almost read every hint, but I am still working my way through), but I have a question regarding the Death Eaters. I know that we are currently building up a bigger, overall plot, and that the faction details are still being worked out and are being discovered as we go along,  but what is the current state of the Death Eaters? Do they have any unique, or important knowledge of what is going on with Hogwarts / Ivormony? Are the Death Eaters working on anything in particular right now, or an mission / end goal at the mome? How have they responded to the situation, if many of the students who have gone missing are sons and daughters of Pureblood, Death Eater families? etc. I just want to make sure that I am not making any assumptions or mistakes when I begin writing with fellow Death Eaters and about Judah's involvement with them (as I have written that he returned as an active member of the DEs again 4 1/2 years ago IC, since his parents forced him out of hiding and to loyally participate in the DEs again; he was sworn in at age 17 and was loyal / active until he fled at age 21. He began serving them again from his 23rd birthday - the final months of age 26. So his involvement would be ongoing / preexisting). Any thoughts or suggestions on where to begin?
