Yvette walked around the festival looking at everything people were selling. She wore her favorite blue jeans shorts and a pastel tank top pair with a pair of short black boots. She smiled as she stopped at a vendor selling some really beautiful necklaces. She found one that was unique in it's own way, she pulled out some money and paid for it. She fastened it around her neck, it sat close to her neck like a choker but more loose fitting. She walked around more taking in everything when she walked over to where the food vendors were.

Yvette approached the vendor selling sweets which she promptly purchased their famous dish. It looked like a flower but not quite. It was covered in strawberries with a chocolate drizzled over top, she took her first bite and nearly moaned at the flavor. She sat down near a tree eating her treat as she watched everyone bustling around buying things. Glancing at the water she laughed softly as she saw two boys having a play fight in the water.

She couldn't help but notice that there were a lot of couples and families there. She looked over towards where she bought her necklace and froze. Her parents were standing there looking at the jewelry. She quickly stood up and crept around the tree trying to get out of sight of them. She didn't realize that one of the tree's roots was raised up out of the ground. She tripped over the root and fell backwards her hands going out to anticipate her fall.

Hugo Weasley had never been snogged so much in his entire life. He wasn’t entirely sure if he liked it, either. He’d known he had drawn the short straw when it had been decided he was the one selected to represent the Obliviator Office at the World Cup. He knew that a booth had been set up but he hadn’t quite been expecting a kissing booth. He had hoped that they were all a bit more adult than that. Evidently not. So, he was in charge of the kissing booth with a girl named Isabelle who worked in the Auror Office.

Isabelle was having a much better time than Hugo – whose first customer was a middle-aged witch who had children who were closer in age to him than he was to her. Once he had gotten her red lipstick off of his face, his cheeks were a similar rouge colour with embarrassment. A few women later, he finally got a break and Hugo went and bought a bottle of water to clear his mouth out.

He shook his head and wandered off in search of something to eat, planning to find something very garlicy so that he could put off anyone else. He was also planning the murders of his co-workers but those could wait. Food and drink was much more pressing. So, after picking up a burger – heavy on onions, the next best thing to garlic – he began to wander, looking for somewhere to sit.

As he was making his way over to a bench he spied, he happened to glance over the way and see someone who made his heart stop in his chest. Yvette. He didn’t know what came over him. He seemed to pre-empt the situation and then it all happened at once. She slipped and he was with her in a shot, arm wrapping around her middle to stop her from falling.

“Gotcha,” he chuckled in her ear.

Yvette has mentally prepared herself for the fall but it never happened. She felt a strong arm wrap around her middle keeping her up right. Hearing the voice she had heard so many times her heart began beating faster.

"Hugo." She said her voice barely a whisper as she looked up at him her eyes wide. Her hands clung to his biceps as she tried to mentally regain her focus. That however wasn't possible with him so close to her, she could smell his cologne and feel his body heat everywhere his body touched hers.

This is what he does to her every time he is around. Her mind becomes fuzzy, and she sometimes forgets how to talk. Not to mention her heart flutters like a hummingbird when he's near. Today however it was far worse because he was touching her after having saved her from toppling backwards on her rear end.

"T-Thank you." She stammered going pink at having stammered and not being capable of coherent thinking.

“You’re welcome,” Hugo’s rich voice lifted out into the air as a warm smile brightened his features.

The feel of Yvette in his arms momentarily stunned him but he managed to get the words out. He felt like a teenager again – although technically he was barely not one. A younger teenager, that is. When he and Yvette were together, happy. When Iggy was alive. Hugo swallowed at the thought of him as his mind conjured the image of his friend – the one bored onto his retinas – not of Ignatius in life but in death, cold and ruined. He shivered a little and released Yvette, wanting to pass it off as nothing. Merlin, he missed him.

“How’ve you been?” He asked, his voice cracking with emotion that he tried to swallow back.

Talking about innocuous things was easy. He could do it forever. With her thought it was a little bit different, surely? He owed her more than this. He owed her his respect. He owed her his devoted attention. He always had done. But had he given it? No, he hadn’t. He’d always only ever treated her poorly and he was determined to resolve to behave differently. He could give her that much, after all these years.

“Hungry?” He asked, holding up his burger absently. “I just got this but we can go back to the van and get another if you like?”

Yvette released his arms when he backed away from her. She felt the heat of him go with him but she could still feel what it was like to have his arms around her. She wanted to have his arms around her as she laid her head on his shoulder. She missed him a lot when he left and she missed him still.

"I've been good, how have you been?" She asked hearing his barely leashed emotion and couldn't help herself. She closed the distance between them and wrapped her arms around his waist holding him close. She didn't know what else to do but she knew that something was hurting him.

She released him when he asked if she was hungry. "A little bit." She said softly wanting nothing more than to know what she could do to help him. "That's fine, we can head back over there."

Yvette wanted to say more but she didn't know what she would say. 'Come on Yvy, you can't really tell him that you miss him or that your still in love with him.' She thought to herself as she brushed a flyaway strand of hair from her face.

A hug. It was almost the strangest feeling in the world. Almost. But not quite. With startling clarity, Hugo was reminded of how few friends he did have and how he quietly craved platonic affection like this. The feeling of Yvette in his arms, with her arms around him, was second to none. He was so cut off from reality now, that he had forgotten almost what it felt like to be wanted in that way and as soon as she pulled away he found himself wishing he could pull her back and keep her there for a few blessed moments more. He couldn’t though. That much he knew.

“Yeah, alright,” he nodded, wishing that he felt like he was telling the truth.

Work was his life now. He was turning into a carbon copy of his mother, slowly but surely. He was a hunter, though. He was stalking the backstreets of the wizarding world, looking for marks the Aurors needed. He was increasingly becoming more brutal, using his abilities to torture information out of those that were complicit in crimes only to take the memories away from them and set them back onto the streets, healed, as though nothing had happened. He was gaining the respect of the Auror Office, he knew that, but the price was the blackening of his soul. He was willing to make that investment, though.

Hugo fell into step with Yvette and took her back towards the burger van, immediately getting into line. He took a few bites of his own while he was stood there, relishing the fact that it was still hot.

“How’s work?” He asked after swallowing a mouthful and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. It felt like something he could talk to her about, at least. Innocuous things were good. They were easy. And by Merlin, he wanted this to be simple.

Yvette wanted nothing more than to know what he was thinking and or feeling. She wanted him to trust her enough to tell her things that were on his mind. She knew that, that kind of trust took time and a lot of work to get there. She wasn't going to pressure him and she definitely wasn't going to do something that would take him away again.

"That's good," She said softly as she clasped her hands in front of her. She remembered a lot about the boy he used to be in school. The man that stood in front of her now made her want to see all the layers beneath him. She knew it wasn't long since they graduated but she always felt like she migrated towards him all the time.

Yvette knew of his reputation from the various patrons that walked into the Leaky, some of them more chatty than the rest. Some would talk about how hard Hugo worked and that he hunted down the bad guys like an avenging angel. She heard so many stories that were whispered when they thought she wasn't listening.

The line was going at a steady pace so she knew it wouldn't take long for her to be next.

"It's unique, I'm just glad that I haven't had to deal with someone who had a little too much drink. So far I've only encountered the overly friendly and the talkers." She said looking ahead before turning her head to look at him. She tried not to laugh when she saw a bit of his burger caught in the hair on his chin. Grabbing a clean tissue from her purse she used it to get it off his face, then blushed realizing that she shouldn't have done that. "Sorry...you just had something caught in your beard." She said in way of explanation to her actions.

There was a part of Hugo that wanted to override the restraint of the slightly cold-hearted Obliviator. There was a part of him that wanted to sink into the feeling of being with Yvette once more. He wanted to fall into step beside her, reach out for her hand and twirl his fingers through hers. But he couldn't. He didn't know why, he just couldn't.

When she brought the tissue to his chin and rubbed the grease and goodness only knows what from the hairs that coated his pale, freckled skin, he felt as though they were in Hogwarts again. He wanted to lean into her, grasp her cheeks in his hands and kiss her, then tease her because he'd make her smell of onions, too.

"We can stink together!" He would have declared, chuckling against her skin.

But he didn't. Couldn't. Couldn't bear to. Didn't, because he wasn't brave enough.

Swallowing, Hugo nodded and offered her a grateful smile.

"I'm sure the landlord keeps a good eye on you, eh?" He considered, reaching up to rub at the scruff on his chin.

"I've heard it's alright in the Cauldron, isn't it? Now, at least. Before it changed hands, I remember it was a bit grizzly. After the Longbottoms left, at least."

Yvette smiled shyly feeling embarrassed and realizing it was the same thing she used to do when they were in school. She remembered those days at Hogwarts fondly and remembered how he was back then. She then realized that he was paler than what he used to be.

"You look different Hugo. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing," She said quickly making sure it wouldn't offend him. "It's just your really pale and you seem kind of, I don't know, like you've aged ten years since I've last seen you." She was concerned about him and she wanted him to open up to her. She wanted him to tell her what happened that day they parted ways.

"Yeah, Declan is a good person. He's a good friend to me and a good boss." She said with a small smile. She looked and saw she was next in line for the truck. She ordered a burger with swiss, extra mushrooms, and bell peppers on it. Paying she stood aside so the next person could order their food.

"Oh yeah, it's a good place to work. I mean it's not my ideal job but it's a good place. Declan has definitely made a good impact on everything there." Yvette said as she grabbed her food from the vendor and moved over so that she wasn't in the way. "So how's working at the ministry?"

Fate Has An Uncanny Way Of Throwing You Off The Deep End {OPEN} Empty Re: Fate Has An Uncanny Way Of Throwing You Off The Deep End {OPEN}

Post by Hugo Weasley Sat Sep 05, 2015 10:56 am

Hugo Weasley loved his parents unequivocally. It was a passion that rode somewhere between deference to what they had done in their lives, the knowledge of who exactly they were to the rest of the world, and the love of a child whose parents had been beside him, supporting him, always. It was their sofa he had fallen back on when Iggy had died. It had been his father's neck he had buried his face into as the tears finally flowed. It was his mother's hands he had clung onto until she regretfully protested that he was hurting her. He had always loved them. He had always listened to them. Some things, though, inevitably got blocked out. It took another person, somewhat detached from the nucleus of disaster that was Hugo's life, to show how true they were in their words sometimes.

Like you've aged ten years since I've last seen you.

The same thing had been jokingly said by his mother a few weeks before when he'd gone home (rather unwillingly, he might add) for a Sunday roast. James had been there, looking rather put out himself, and their eyes had met across the dinner table when Hermione's voice had rung out in an echo of Yvette's later observation. The Potter man had raised a pointed eyebrow at his younger cousin before dropping the sharp, Weasley gaze. Hugo had gritted his teeth, much in the same way he was now, and told his mother she was mistaken. He was just tired. It had been a long couple of days. A particularly nice family had been obliviated and he'd not taken well to it. The last had been a lie. He liked nothing more than leaving contrived memories in the minds of otherwise pleasant people. He liked giving them bad ones. Maybe the malevolence was aging him. Maybe it was now just him. Old and tired looking. No verve. No youth. No happiness.

"It's been a rough couple of days," the lie was so easy, he almost believed it now. "I've been working late. Should've stayed at home, rather than come here. Should've tried to get some sleep."

But then, he knew as well as he suspected Yvette would, that he wouldn't have stayed home. He was a caged lion when he was trapped in four walls that he was expected to have an affinity to. Inevitably, he would have ended up in the Hog's Head or somewhere dingy in Knockturn Alley where he'd get into a fight he would take too much pleasure in and be forced to obliviate the patrons after taking care of the belligerent one he'd come to blows with. Knockturn Alley's portion of the Thames was full anyway with bodies. Full to bursting. So much so that they could create a dam. The Ministry didn't care to look into it. What was one more body for the pile?

Hugo found it easier to listen than he did to talk. It was simpler to watch Yvette order her burger and twitter about work. In a funny sort of way, he liked it. He liked knowing that she was in a good place, amongst good people. When the question was turned on him, however, he was lost for words. He didn't know what it was like working in the Ministry, really. The Aurors didn't respect him. The Obliviators thought he was too young. The only people that seemed to like having him around were his cousins that also worked there. So he was good at his job. Too good, just to prove himself. His mother's son through and through in that respect.

"It's only really good when I'm out in the field," he conceded, picking up some napkins for Yvette as they moved to the side, out of the way. He held them out to her. "The paperwork is dreadful, too. I don't recommend it. Stay in bar work. It's simpler." He chuckled then and offered her a small smile. "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, though."
