The steady hum of the train moving down the track was almost soporific, almost. If it ahdn’t been for the book that Elijah had bought at the station back in Southampton then he would have fallen asleep hours ago. He’d noticed vaguely, as he’d sat there reading a murder mystery set in the seventeen hundreds, that people seemed to be avoiding him. He’d noticed the way women had moved to sit across from him or even next to him, before realising that the gold band one his left hand was in fact curled around his fourth finger. Then, they’d visibly deflated in confidence and slunk away to find another scarlet seat on the train. He wanted the ring gone and it would be as soon as he got to the station. It wasn’t that he wanted to flirt with nameless women but he knew that it upset Selene, no matter how many times he’d told her that it was all for show, that he didn’t doubt that in secret, Mira was carrying on with someone also.

This month, Elijah had left Bulgaria under the pretence of going to Paris to work. He’d spent a week in Lille instead, with Harry and his kids. Astrid had been absent, as ever, and so the two had spent the week on the beach with Harry’s children. It had made Elijah miss his own towards the end of the week and so on Friday he’d spent the evening sending owls to Fauve and Thierry. He’d not sent one to Mira though and he’d wondered whether it had been a good choice on his part. He’d gotten over it soon enough though and began on the second part of his journey - to London, England where he’d spend the next three or four weeks with Selene. Perhaps, he’d even tell another little white lie and claim to be working through the next month also. He’d have to pop home at some time if he did that, if only to see his family. There was no sure guarantee he’d run into Mira but it was likely. Perhaps he’d get off easily though - dinner with his father.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Elijah’s train pulled into King’s Cross Station. He closed his book and tucked it into the leather satchel he’d slung over his shoulders that morning. He kicked his duffle bag out from under his feet, into the aisle, and got up to retrieve it before walking up towards the doors that, to his delight, had already opened. Elijah swung his duffle bag onto his shoulder and jumped out of the train and onto the platform. He lifted his eyes up to the signs above his head and bit his lip before following the black arrow towards what he assumed was the exit. Thankfully it was where the crowd that had come off of the train were moving towards so it was vaguely promising. Sure enough, the large doors in the foyer opened out into the world beyond and Elijah picked up pace.

At twenty-eight, give or take a few months, Elijah looked as if he’d barely aged. He’d matured somewhat since the first time he’d actually met Selene in Paris but then again, so had she. She grew more beautiful every day and he often felt angry and frustrated that he couldn’t always be there to curl up in bed with her at night, or give her a kiss in the morning. They had these precious weeks together though, when he could do just that. Sometimes she’d be working, so their time together was streamlined to the evenings, but also sometimes that was a good thing because it meant he could get the work done that he needed in the studio that was her home. Why she lived there he didn’t know but he supposed it was convenient. It seemed right, almost and this studio actually had a kitchen. They’d been together something like ten years, in secret and he didn’t know how they’d done it. The desire, he supposed, and the raw and powerful need for each other.

Of course Elijah loved Mira but that was the Pureblood way, wasn’t it? He could never justify what he was doing but he couldn’t bring himself to end it. Over the years he’d tried. He’d tried to brush her away, to forget about it, yet somehow he always ended up coming back to her, kissing her and telling her he loved her. And he did, it was no lie, but Elijah knew he was walking on fragile ice. He could do it though. He’d been doing it for ten years.

Hailing a taxi saved him time and before he knew it, he was outside the building the studio was in. Elijah jumped up the steps and opened the door, striding down the hallway towards the stairs. He took two at a time, bounding up the stairs. Once he made it to their level, the little old lady from next door emerged to collect her milk. She looked up and her face brightened at the sight of him. Elijah grinned and slowed, walking slowly towards her. She brought her hand up and ducked down so she could pat his face. “Go and see her, Eli.” She implored. “She’s been terribly sad lately. Oh! Here,” the lady turned around and bustled into her apartment. She soon returned though, with a celebrations tin. Elijah raised an eyebrow and she patted the top with a smile on her face. “Chocolate cake. Tell her it’s from me. Oh, and tell her that I’m making macaroons in the week so if she wants a tray full then she only needs to pop round.”

Elijah chuckled, thanked the old lady and gave her a kiss on the cheek before walking up the hall to the door in which the studio was behind. Elijah fumbled with his keys as he struggled to balance the tin and the duffle bag, and after a few moments, he got the key into the lock. He opened the door and tossed his bag onto the floor, the keys into the bowl on the table pushed up against the wall that was to the left of the door, and closed the infernal thing behind him, shutting out the world. Elijah took his satchel off of his shoulders and dropped that down with the duffle before slipping his jacket off and hanging it up on the hook. He slipped his shoes off and picked up the cake tin where he’d put it down on the table and took it into the kitchen.

From the kitchen, Elijah could hear the shower going. He smiled and flicked the kettle on before shouting to her, “Selene! Do you want a cup of tea?” How very like him, nigh on breaking in and offering to make her some tea. Classic.

Post by Selene Brun Thu Aug 04, 2011 10:29 pm

If it hadn't of been for Mrs. Fuller across the hall, she would have gone to work today. It was like this every day, these days. She worked so hard she had lost weight again, her hair grew out, and she took extremely long showers. However, she spent a lot of time with Mrs. Fuller, when Elijah was away anyway, and it ahd been for quite some time this time.. having done other stuff with the family... and she had watched with a look of indifference when someone started to speak about their latest baby.. and wonder how they had managed to keep their family in tact for so long. Selene found herself almost laughing at their speculations, knowing exactly what was going on in that family. For one, she was the other woman that everyone speculated about, and they had been together for Ten years... the other woman for ten years...

Selene stood in the shower, running her hands through her hair, the water falling on her face. How often had she wondered if she would be the other woman forever? Of course those thoughts only ever ran through her head when he was gone.. with his family.. his children that didn't know she existed.. his wife that thought everything was fine between them.. watching as they appeared in magazines at public functions, smiling, holding hands... her hand would tingle.. and she often felt deep sorrow.. she had never cried about it though, he told her over and over that it was only his duty as a pureblood that he was with Mira.. she had to be secret from the world because he loved her, and Mira would probably kill her.

Selene turned off the water to the shower, and froze, she heard a voice from the kitchen, and felt a smile cross her face. A cup of tea? "Sure, you know how I like it! Let me finished getting dressed and I'll be in there in a second. "She called, forcing herself to sound happy and chipper, even though her mind was spinning in ways that it shouldn't be when he was around.. it was always like that when he first showed up. Her mind would be angry, upset, tired, and he showed up for a while, and she was able to relax again, she got extremely happy during these times.. she knew Mrs. Fuller liked Elijah, and when he was around, enjoyed knowing that Selene was happy.. but it still hurt, even with him around, knowing that she was the other woman in a relationship that no one knew was going into the deep end, the woman who lived in his studio, the woman who had to sit by and watch him as he had child after child.. knowing that he was having sex with Mira.. knowing that it didn't matter when she was with him.. they wouldn't have children, and she would always be his biggest secret.

She felt like a prisoner to her love... her love towards Elijah killed her inside, forced to sit here, day after day, reading Witch Weekly and the Daily Prophet, watching his smiling face grow more famous, as she wasted away as his secret lover. It sucked, and she hated it, but she loved Elijah, and she was a prisoner to those feelings. Getting dressed in simple jeans and a Weird Sister's t-shirt, she stepped out of the bathroom, toweling off her hair, and walking into the kitchen, bare feet striking the floor as she stood in front of him, watching him carefully, her eyes hard for a moment, before she couldn't help but smile. "Welcome home." she said softly.

This Month is Our Month Empty Re: This Month is Our Month

Post by Elijah Krum Fri Aug 05, 2011 12:25 am

Guilt was ever present in Elijah’s mind. He was anxious about Selene. He constantly felt as if he was denying her what he had a family; albeit a dishevelled one. He wondered whether it had crossed her mind to get married and have children; whether it had crossed her mind to stop loving him and love someone else, someone who could love her fully and only her. He didn’t want to have to sneak around the way he did. He didn’t want to receive the knowing looks from the woman and know that the Daily Prophet was on the kitchen table, his face plastered across the front cover. He didn’t want to have to tell the reporters that no, there were no marital problems in the Krum household. He wanted to stand up and say, yes, he was in love with someone else and that person had been waiting for ten years for him to come and love her fully. He couldn’t do it though. Sometimes he wondered whether it was because he wouldn’t do it. But he would have, had circumstances been different.

Elijah busied himself with making the tea. He needed something to do with his hands. He’d been stagnant too long, absorbed in a book that did little to entertain him but enough to keep him from falling asleep. As the kettle boiled, Elijah wandered around the studio, his hands coming to the paintbrushes in the pots on the window sill and the paintings of Selene on the walls. The kettle whistled, calling Elijah back into the kitchen, though his eyes still strayed to the picture he’d painted of her five or so years ago - one that Mira had seen, oddly. She’d caught him agonising over it had home and had, ironically, commented on the beauty of the model. Elijah had wistfully agreed at the time and had left without a word. He’d been determined to sell it at the time but instead he entrusted Arnold with it and told him to hold it but put it on the records as having been sold. Now it was in the studio, in their home, where it belonged.

Elijah poured the water into the cups and turned at the sound of Selene’s voice. He put the kettle back down and crossed the room to her immediately, sweeping her into his arms in one fluid movement. Elijah kissed her gently on the lips and smiled before brushing her hair out of her eyes. “Good Morning, beautiful.” He smiled and kissed her again before releasing her. “Go and sit down. I’ll bring the tea over,” Elijah wandered back into the kitchen area and started tending to the drinks, taking the teabags out and the like. “How’s work?” He asked, taking the milk out of the fridge. He poured it in and added the sugar, giving both a stir before chucking the spoon into the sink, the milk back in the fridge and taking the cups over to where Selene was sat down. Elijah handed her the cup and slumped down beside her. He kicked his feet onto the coffee table and looked at her with a warm smile on his lips. “I’ve missed you,” he murmured.

Selene looked at him as he stood there, making tea for her, and smiled when he swept her into a kiss, and she immediately felt her heart soften. Ten years.. it was hard to imagine that it had been so long that they had been together, every time she saw him, it was like she was 18 again. Throwing her arms around him and kissing him on the mouth, watching as the pain flashed through his eyes. Knowing her feelings, and knowing it could never work out.. and yet here she was.. sitting down at the table as he got her tea. The other woman. It was the phrase that ran through her head, over, and over, and over. Every time she thought about her relationship with Elijah, she thought of herself as the other woman.

There was a prophet on the table, and she looked at it, seeing his face on it for the umpteenth time. And as always, there was Mira... the woman she had come to know almost on a personal level, and yet had never met. She had never really spoke about Mira with Elijah, but she knew her by the way Elijah looked at her when he was in the prophet, she knew her by the dress she wore, she knew her by the rumors that floated around that she was in an affair with some other man, and for once Elijah was being the honest one. Though people still asked him repeatedly if he had ever cheated on her.. and Selene could answer that question right out. 'Yes.. yes he has for ten years now.. if he weren't married, it would be almost a legal marriage.' Selene clasped her hands in front of her and looked up at Elijah, she looked sad, she knew she did, her hair was flung out all over her back, and she picked up her wand, summoning a hairbrush to her. She very slowly started to comb through the tangles, and sighed, having to pull hard at the length of her hair.

Taking the cup from Elijah, she sipped it before smiling and setting it down in front of her, turning over the prophet to show an ad for a Madam Malkins, hiding his face from the cover, and smiling up at him. "I missed you too Elijah. "she said softly, before her eyes turned down to look at the prophet again, taking another sip of her tea, her eyes downcast, the hairbrush forgotten on the table beside her now that her wet hair was combed through, she ran a hand through it carefully, putting air through the tendrils so that it would dry faster, but making it look a little messed up again in the process. "Work is good... I'm getting very near another promotion I think.." She said glancing at him. "I'll be making more then any other secretary in the Ministry..." She said her eyes falling back to the newspaper, pretending to be absorbed in a story there, her eyes not moving though, making it obvious she wasn't reading.

Elijah sat up soon after he’d seated himself, and leaned forward, placing his cup down on top of one of the coasters, not wanting to stain the table. He took the brush from Selene and turned, crossing his legs on the couch. Slowly and carefully, he began to comb the brush through her hair, taking extra caution with the knots caused by the shower. He wetted his lips and leaned forward, dropping a light kiss to her shoulder, before bringing the brush down through the knot-free patch of hair he’d made for her. Elijah sometimes didn’t know what he’d do without Selene. His mind was always focused on her or the children. With Mira it was a case of remembering that yes, his wife was there, good. It was difficult to keep track of Mira at times but he needed her at those internal Ministry functions because she was the one that did all of the talking. He did love her. He really did but the ocean between them was wider than it had ever been. For a while there, there hadn’t even been a drop but it had gotten larger over the years; filled with tears and fury.

“Congratulations,” He chuckled as he continued to brush her hair. “I’ll take you somewhere tonight, shall I? We’ll celebrate. It might be premature but it doesn’t matter. I know you’ll get it. Elisabeth...she says ‘hello’, by the way. She plans on dropping in next week with her lot. You should see Vesper now. She’s gotten so big.” Elijah smiled at the thought of what he referred to as his niece. Harry would never quite be a brother to Elijah. There was that undercurrent still, that of something less than platonic love. Nothing had happened in a long time though, nearly six years. Elijah could honestly say that he did miss Harry but the week with him and his children had been priceless and it was enough to last on before upping and going to see him. Mira loathed him with an unwavering passion; another reason why Elijah made a point to go and see his cousin whenever she had something big to do. Harry had been Elijah’s lifeline for a long time. He had never promised to desert him just because he’d gotten married.

“Or,” Elijah smiled. “We could stay in. It’s your call beautiful. I’m open to all options. A snooze sounds good actually...out on the balcony. I’m getting old Selene...I want to sleep.” Elijah laughed and shook his head. “So...met anyone interesting at the Ministry lately?”

This Month is Our Month Empty Re: This Month is Our Month

Post by Selene Brun Fri Aug 05, 2011 1:40 am

Selene leaned her head forward, feeling the gentle strokes of the brush through her hair. It was moments like these that made Selene remember why she loved Elijah so much. He loved her.. the whole wife thing was just the need to have children and do what his family wanted him to do. In a way, Selene had done the same thing.. she was doing what her family wanted her to do.. get a boyfriend.. they had never specified if that boyfriend was married though. Married.. the word just didn't work on her tongue, or in her head. It pained her everyday.. knowing that each moment she was with Elijah, secretly, Mira would be hurt.. knowing that it was her fault if Mira was hurt.. and Mira had already been hurt, ten years of hurt, and it was all Selene's fault.. but neither woman was to blame... Elijah was the focus of all their attention.. what went on his head, no one knew but himself.. but Selene had a feeling she came close to second on that department. Ten years of nothing but love.. ten years of being together... Ten years of him leaving for weeks, months sometimes, making Selene wonder if he was coming back at all.. until the day he showed up in her kitchen, asking if she wanted tea.. and the absence was forgotten.

Selene smiled and glanced over her shoulder at Elijah as he kissed her neck. He wanted to take her somewhere that night, but Selene didn't think she could stand it.. being out with that crowd of people, dressed up, looking pretty... pretending to be a model he was interviewing.. a friend of an acquaintance, a cousin.. the fact of the matter was, when they were out in public... they weren't a couple.. because who knew what reporters were where, and if one caught them... Selene would have enjoyed a good meal with Elijah, but she felt the need to keep him to herself for the night. She had to share him so much already, she wanted him to be hers for a while. He was here for a good long time this time, and the thought of it made her breathing quicken, her eyes grow watery. She missed him a lot more then she let onto him.

"I think I'd rather stay in." She said softly, her accent had all but disappeared after ten years outside of Paris. Working in the Ministry gave her a very proud sounding voice, and it was almost hard to tell she had been French, except that she could still speak it fluently, and her looks were nothing but French, even if her voice was not. She turned around carefully and took the brush from him, looking into his eyes and smiling at him, tossing the brush to the side, she caught his lips in hers, and smiled. "No one new from the last time you were here..." She said softly. She tried not to let him know the sorrow she felt in her heart, ten years was a long time to have to share a man with a woman who didn't even know her name... ten years was a long time to pretend she had a normal life when he wasn't around, and devoting her entire existence to the times he was around, so that she could savor them when he was gone. "I missed you Elijah.." She said softly, and then moved away from him, standing up and taking her cup into the kitchen silently. "What about you? Where are you this time?" She asked. It was a common joke of Selene's, an attempt to make light of a situation, and also a way of letting him know just how much she had missed him. When she asked where he was, she took from his answer, how much he had missed her himself. She looked around the corner at him and raised an eyebrow. "In France perhaps? Painting models and having your way with them, dining out on the town, dancing in the moonlight." She shook her hips a little bit, eyes twinkling.

"Or perhaps you've gone to India this time, desperate to paint a model you found in a magazine, but unable to find her for weeks." She put her hand over her eyes and pretended to be searching through a jungle, a sword in her hand. "Or maybe America!" Selene hopped back into the room playfully, grinning at him, saluting like an American. "It took your interest this month, and you've decided you wanted to paint some poor sap with her dress blown up around her hips." She said shaking her hips again and laughing, spinning in a circle, her shirt flaring up slightly as she did. "So where is it mister?" She asked, planting her hands on her hips and grinning at him, a little out of breath from her sudden reenactment of every place she thought he had gone.

This Month is Our Month Empty Re: This Month is Our Month

Post by Elijah Krum Fri Aug 05, 2011 2:16 am

As the years had passed, the lies had gotten more and more elaborate. Elijah had gone all the way around the world and back chasing his lies and then chasing Selene. He adored his work but he also adored the reward afterwards. The reward of his secret lover, the girl he should have made his wife ten years ago. They should have been able to love each other publicly, without fearing retribution. He couldn’t help but laugh at her humour. The lies he told for her were getting worse and worse. He wasn’t entirely sure what he’d said to anyone before leaving this time. If he remembered correctly then he’d left a note. He couldn’t be sure though.

Elijah smiled and pulled Selene into his arms. He leaned back against the cushions on the couch, pulling her with him. He kissed her neck, nipping at her skin with his teeth, and inhaled the sweet scent of her hair. “Mmm...I love you,” He murmured without a single thought to his words, as to whether they were fair or not. They probably weren’t but she needed to know. He needed to remind her that he loved her. Elijah’s fingers began to absent mindedly caress her stomach and buried his face into her neck, a smile on his lips as he fought to avoid the question. “Nowhere...” He mumbled with a chuckle. “Lille for a while, admittedly. I went to see Harry and Astrid. Well, Astrid wasn’t there but she’s never bloody with him so Christ only knows where she was the silly cow.” Elijah made a face and sighed before tightening his hold on Selene. “I needed to see you. I was going mad. I could only take one more dozy reporter before I actually lied to them all told them I was screwing the gardener and the milkmaid. Not true, of course. I never see the milkmaid long enough to proposition her.” Elijah laughed.

“No, she knows I’m here. Not explicitly here but in the UK. London, I’m sure she assumes, despite knowing I much prefer Wales. I hate Bulgaria, Lena. I’m sick of it. It’s stuffy and cold and awful. There are only so many hungry kids I can stand seeing. I swear to Merlin it was every child in the village the week before I left. They were all in the grand hall. I walk in expecting Breakfast and the House Elves nigh on slit their throats as they tried to explain. I didn’t mind but it’s getting ridiculous now. No one has any money. I employed a lot of their parents. They’re working in the kitchens, as maids as...just anything and everything really. I don’t know. After a week of food though, they started to look a hell of a lot better.” Elijah smile grimly. “It’s ironic that we sit here now in easy comfort while they’re scraping the bottom of the bowl. It’s not fair.” Elijah sighed. “I can’t just give them money though. You can’t throw money at a problem and hope it goes away can you? Anyway, take my mind off of that, love.”

This Month is Our Month Empty Re: This Month is Our Month

Post by Selene Brun Fri Aug 05, 2011 2:39 am

Selene laughed when he grabbed her and pulled her onto the couch with him, curling up against him as he gently started to kiss her neck, she smiled, and felt that odd weight disappear in a flash, with two words from Elijah, she was all smiles, and it was like that hole had never even opened up in the first place. "I love you too." She whispered, gently pressing her cheek against his long hair and sighing gently, feeling his hold on her tighten. She gently laid her hand on his as he caressed her stomach, and she smiled, closing her eyes gently as she felt his warm presence next to her. Breathing in his scent, reminding herself that he was really there beside her, and not a figment of her imagination.

Selene couldn't help but chuckle at his jokes about the milkmaid. She knew that in order to be happy with Elijah, she had had to get over his jokes, and even his possible side track... him being married made that a big problem. At first she had been horrified, knowing he was having sex with someone else, but finally she calmed down and admitted it had to happen.. now.. he had children.. she did not. She was advancing in the Ministry, he was a well known painter. She was dating a married man, he was having an affair. She had gotten over the fact that he had sex with his wife, she had gotten over the fact that he was probably having sex with other people too... she didn't care, as long as she had him.. she was fine. She was happy in her own way, if she knew he was at least able to find his way back to her, and hold her like he was now.

Selene listened to him complain about Bulgaria, and she couldn't help but tease him. "Then why don't you stay here? It's nice and stuffy here.. lots of rain, and enough children who are hungry you wouldn't be able to take them all in so you'd give up eventually." She said smiling at him and moving so she was on top this time, her arms around his neck, sitting with her nose inches from his, leaning her forehead against his, breathing in his scent. He asked her to take his mind off of it, and she happily obliged. "Mrs. Fuller has been keeping me company lately.. her husband came to see her again, and she's been really upset... I let her hold Meeko.. she liked that.." she said smiling slightly. "She just loves having me over to her apartment I think.. I love listening to her stories too.." Selene looked up at Meeko came over and jumped up onto the couch with them. The cat moved and laid right down on Selene's stomach. She smiled and pet the cat. "He's been my bed buddy lately." She said softly, curling up against Elijah and petting the white cat. "Waiting for you to kick him out I think.. but I think Cooper hasn't been feeling well lately.. I was planning on taking him to the vet tomorrow.. oh.. and one more thing.." Selene said, and looked up at him guiltily. "I found a kitten.." She said grinning at him. "He's so cute! I just couldn't leave him out there! And Meeko has already adopted her! I haven't named her yet.. I thought I would leave that to you.. she's in the kitchen.." She said looking up at Elijah and grinning, still petting Meeko gently, hearing him purr and grinned, purring at him herself, and snuggling her face against his fur.

This Month is Our Month Empty Re: This Month is Our Month

Post by Elijah Krum Sat Aug 06, 2011 1:08 am

Cats seemed to have taken over their studio though it was no wonder why. A lot of the time, Elijah was sure Selene must have been terribly lonely. No, he knew she was lonely. He was selfish, callous and cruel to be continuing on his separate lives the way he did. He should have ended it ten years ago. The guilt welled up within Elijah had became unbearable at times; times like this. He buried his face in Selene’s neck, desperate to will away the emotions that were the result of his own selfish desires. He didn’t want to admit that meeting his own desires had been the cause for their coupled anguish. He wanted nothing more than to marry Selene, to settle down and have children with her; but his life had never been his own, it had always been under the control of someone else. That was his age-old excuse, though. He was twenty-eight years old. Surely he was old enough and brave enough to take the reins of his own life by now.

Evidently, that was not the case.

Elijah smiled wistfully, wishing he could, and kissed Selene gently. He patted her leg and nudged her into a sitting position, deciding to go in search of the cat she’d spoken about. Elijah got up from the couch and crept towards the kitchen, wondering how he’d missed him before. Sure enough, when he entered the room, a little black and white head popped up from inside the cat basket that had been pushed against the cabinets. Elijah grinned and leaned down. He scooped the kitten into his arms and straightened, bringing the moggy against his chest. Elijah nudged his nose against the cats and chuckled when she pawed at his face, giving a hearty mew as she did so. Elijah smiled and tickled the kitten’s stomach as she continued to wriggle about in his hands. Elijah scratched her behind the ear and turned, looking over at Selene.

“Where on earth did this one come from?” Elijah asked. “She’s wonderful. Why don’t you name her though? Or better yet, where’s that lazy adoptee of hers? Shouldn’t he weigh in on this?”

This Month is Our Month Empty Re: This Month is Our Month

Selene knew that the more cat's she got, the more Elijah knew that she was lonely. There were times, when all she could do was curl up with the cats for day, stroking them, sleeping, eating ice cream. Wiling away the newspaper that announced that his wife was pregnant again, willing away his smiling face on the cover of the magazines, proclaiming that his son had taken an interest in Quidditch, and they hoped to see another Quidditch star in the family. She just couldn't take it. Often, she had thought of talking to him about quitting it all, moving their separate ways, the moment he walked into the room, she resolved herself to speak about it, told herself that she would tell him just how much she was hurt.. but she couldn't do it. The moment she saw his face, her heart melted, and she was in his arms again, regretting ever even thinking of going away from him. But still.. those newspapers.. those magazines...

Selene sat up carefully as he went to go see the kitten, Selene grinned when he pulled her out and snuggled with her. "In a box actually.. outside our door... I don't know who dropped her off.. but, they obviously knew I liked cats." She said, and then flushed. Whenever she spoke about this apartment, and herself singular, she felt horrible. Mostly because any friends she had, didn't know of Elijah, and were never invited around when he was there. They knew of her as the lady who went to work, did her work, and had a lot of cats. Lonely... sad, they said behind her back... often talked about what a shame it was because she was so pretty, and getting on in years. She knew they spoke about her as becoming the nutty old cat lady who lived by herself... wondering if she ever got laid... she knew their looks, their sighs, their sad pats on the back when she told them she was staying in for the night because Cooper wasn't feeling well, and she needed to take care of him.

She pet Meeko for a long moment, before looking up. "Cooper is in my...our room." She corrected herself quickly, but she knew the damage had been done. She had called it her room.. she only ever did that when he was gone for a very long time. Like the last time.. when she had gotten used to referring to her room as hers, and the cats as hers, and the apartment as hers.. because when he was gone so long, she tried to forget him, she tried to forget he came here every so often, to show her the love she so wished she deserved from him. It was times like these, that she took to blaming herself for his unable to leave his wife and live with her.. she blamed herself because she knew.. she just KNEW, if she were a better person, he would want her.. and be able to do what he was doing now.. he would only be able to live with her... it was all her fault, she knew it. Selene stared at Meeko for a moment longer, before getting up and letting him move onto the couch, and she went back into the bedroom, gently pulling Cooper out from under the bed, and carrying him into the living room. Cooper was hissing slightly at Elijah, teeth bared, hair arched, his eyes locked on the man he knew, but was never comfortable around. "See.. he's not feeling well." She said, obviously seeing signs in him that were unusual, because this behavior was very normal for Cooper towards Elijah.
