Wait...what is it? From what JK Rowling was saying it sounds like a website where you can read/discuss the books. Which while sort of cool, isn't all that groundbreaking.

Interactive elements? Is it like a game? Or is it THE official Harry Potter RP?

It depends how they decide to format it. There are different definitions of interactive. Like, Marshal Mcluhan (a very important person in media theory) said a book is interactive. I mean, you have to read a book and when you do, you bring your own biases and interpretations with you.

For example, how many people think Draco is hot, or ship Snape/Lily, even though Draco and Snape are both pretty awful people throughout the majority of the books?

From what I've read, you 'explore' the sight and unlock unhidden stories of the Harry Potter universe, either by finding them, competing in minigames, etc. I know you get a wand and get sorted but I do not believe this is a World of Warcraft type of MMO. JKR said she wanted to keep the saga based in literature and the sight is still literary-focused. It's pretty open.

From what I've been able to gather based on the press release and her announcement, it sounds like you experience the books as Harry does. So, when Harry goes to Ollivanders and gets his wand, you get your wand (someone elsewhere said they'd read there will be over 300,000 different types and a very delicate selection process); when Harry is sorted, you get sorted.

It's definitely going to be rooted more in the books than it is in role-playing. Nothing like an MMO like Hogwarts Live or a forum based RPG.

They also have to put limits in place to prevent creepers joining and trying to solicit children. They have specifically said it will be a safe place (although, I notice they're still setting the minimum age as 13). There can be some pretty bad harassment in the online world. That's why I always choose a unisex alias and don't provide personal information when I join RPs.
