A New Addition to Quidditch?

Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

A New Addition to Quidditch? Empty A New Addition to Quidditch?

Post by Alana York Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:40 pm

So, I'm making a new character at the moment, and she loves cheerleading. I've been thinking of ways to incorporate this into her roleplaying, but I wasn't sure how. But now I'm beginning to think: what if each Hogwarts house could have their own cheerleading squad? I'm sure if we can scrap up enough people who would like to join, it could be a fun activity! Boys and girls included

My only concern is if it would get in the way of the game itself. I mean, a squad would be great, but if it is too much trouble (i.e. making the game slower, harder to follow, etc.) then it wouldn't be worth it. I want to see if this is at all possible, because I'm sure it would be great!

Cheerleading is a very American thing. In other countries we tend to think of it as vacuous and stupid. I'm not saying that because I think that; I've tried out for my university cheer squad, but that's the attitude people have. Also, considering Hogwarts is a very traditional school, I don't think it would be welcomed.

However, that doesn't mean your character shouldn't try to start a squad. It just means you should be ready for other characters to use it as a reason to pick on her. Although, that might depend on what house she's in, too. I think the Hufflepuffs would be more open to at least giving cheerleading a try than any of the other houses.

It wouldn't really impact the games, because when we play only the characters on the quidditch teams are allowed to post in the game thread. We have separate threads for spectators.

Also I just want to point out... I'd be more concerned about getting the Quidditch teams going. Gryff is closest enough to having a team and we're still one short..

Yeah, maybe when we have full teams, then we'll get cheerleading squads. But everyone keep voting, so we know if it's popular for when it's feasible to start it.

Sounds good, however I'd like to point out that there are quite a few people who are interested in the Slytherin Quidditch team as well, we only need one more position filled and there are about three people who want that position, it just isn't very kept up with.

Can't we just have unlimited subs so that when the game comes round if someone from the team is missing, we can sub in an active member? Hufflepuff is never going to have a full team otherwise.

That might be a good idea, and general subs rather than two Seeker subs, 4 Beaters, etc. As many subs as you can get.
