"I think we've all lost a meal over something, Daniel," Robert laughed. "Most often for uss, its work of some sort." He opened a drawer and got out a notepad and wrote a hasty note and signed it with his, now, rather trademark signature. Robert had gotten into the habit of his name being little more than an elegant scribble years ago, and those who knew him and found it almost impossible to either decifer or to duplicate. He handed the note to Daniel.
"Take it to Sparks when you leave her. Dinner for you and Brienne and Luna is on Khaat's mother and I for saving her life. It's the least we can do. Give this to Lizzie and place your order. She'll provide you whatever you want, whether you dine in or take it away. Either one." Then he said as an afternote, "Oh, and so you know, whenver we intervene in some way as aurors, we need to do a written report. Especially if there is a death involved. It keeps your name cleared and keeps a clear record that you were justified. It also helps in your personnel record, to be honest, of your performance as an auror. And, believe me, just through tradition alone, even if I were not Khaat's father, the minister takes great interest in making sure the Chief Warlock is protected at all times. The fact that she's my only daughter only makes that more important for me. From a performance standard, its not a small thing. Its successful and significant."
"Daddy's right, Daniel," Khaat said. "Thank you. I..barely remember you being there before..I blacked out. But I didn't have a chance of defending myself today. The only way I survived at all because of you. Why don't you think of designing some sort of security plan for St. Mungos? Give it a go. Go see Hannah--she's our assistant. She can show you around or show you the floor plans if you like. You have as good a chance as anyone else. Show us your ideas. We really have let it go too long without any security. I really do want to be able to walk the hallways without a bodyguard here following my every step. Its not good for the patients if they see me under so close a guard. It will make them believe St. Mungos isn't safe for them either, even though Luther Burke really is just after me at this point so far as we know. I need to be able to find a way to move, on my own, through this building."
"Not going to happen until I say otherwise, my darling," Robert kissed Khaat's forehead lovingly. "I won't risk that again. You'll have to put up with guards until we have something in place. And at least for today, you're going home. That's an order."
"See?" she sighed, looking at Daniel, "There are times I don't even seem to have control of my own hospital." She managed slight smile at him. It did seem funny to her when, despte the fact that she was her father's supervisor, the fact that Robert was the minister, her healer, and her father often trumped her authority here. As minister, he could take authority over her. As her healer, if she were not medically sound, he could put her on medical leave until she was healthy enough to work. As her father, well, that trumped everything else. Everything.
