Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

First Task Li9olo10

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. First Task Empty First Task

Post by Darren Mon Dec 07, 2009 3:50 am

THE FIRST TASK

One by one, the champions are chosen to enter the maze. The maze is located near the forbidden forest, with people sitting around the area to see the task.

You will first Roleplay a post about how your champion gets through the maze and then see's the Sphinx, don't go further than that. Remember, there will be obstacles in your way, but not like magical creatures and etc. These obstacles will be like the one where Harry had to step through that mist which turned the world upside down and etc. Remember, there will be various hints and puzzles throughout the maze which will indicate which direction to go to. You can also use other spells to help you go through the maze. Remember that the task is a test of logic and intelligence.

You are not allowed to summon any help, have any objects with you (besides your wand) or anything like that.

You will have to make this all up. You will be marked on your creativity, so make it interesting! Length doesn't matter.

You have 3-5 days to post your first RP.

First Task Empty Re: First Task

Post by Christabelle Whittle Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:57 am

Christabelle came down like all of the other champions on the day of the first task. She wouldn't admit to herself that she was a bit nervous but then again she didn't admit to much of anything to anyone these days. Her mind now was focused on one thing and one thing only, and that was focusing on and getting past the task at hand and getting through it while possibly winning. That day she wore a longsleeved blue shirt with bronze stitching to represent that she was the champion for Ravenclaw, a pair of black pants and comfortable pair of running shoes. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Slowly letting it out, she opened her eyes, her nerves somewhat calmed down and she took her first steps into the Maze.

As she took her first few steps she kept her wand out casting lumos to help her see through the semblance of light that the maze had to offer her. It was at this point she had wished she had done more to prepare herself for this task. Too late to worry about it now. she thought, All though I wonder how you can truly prepare yourself for a maze. Pushing the thought aside she came to an intersection in the maze. She could either go left, right or straight. She walked a few paces coming to a dead end. She cursed loudly as she hit the wall of the maze turning around and returning the way she had come until she reached the intersection once more.

She decided to make that left instead having failed at choosing the path going off to the right. Something had told her that this would be the way to go. No sooner did she pass the intersection anti-gravity mist appeared behind her. She knew had she come back this way a few seconds later she would have been caught in it and wouldn't know how to get herself out of it. As she continued walking she came upon a creature that looked like a gigantic scorpion with stings curled over its back. Having studied magical creatures when she was younger she recognized it as a blast-ended Skrewt. She knew that you couldn’t hit its armor but to accomplish anything with magic you had to hit its underbelly. She carefully aimed her wand, “Incarcerous!” as she said the spell it hit the skrewt’s underbelly and ropes formed around it binding it so it couldn’t harm her. While she knew she only had a few seconds to move away from it she took this time to carefully step to the side of it and hurry along through the maze.

Once more she was lead to another choice of which way to go. She took a deep breath and inhaled as the wind blew. She had a strong feeling that something would quickly be coming her way as she made her way down the path as it curved to the right. Before too long she was faced with her worst fear. She saw Ne’os standing over the dead body of her cousin. She shook her head. No! she thought fighting back the urge to cry. Its…its just a maze. This is just another obstacle for you to get through…When you finish Godric will be in the crowd perfectly fine. She took several deep breaths her eyes closed as she envisioned funniest thing that she could think of. She had to refrain from laughing to concentrate on the spell and when she got her focus she aimed her wand, “Riddikulus!” she cast and then saw Matt Lestrange, dressed as a woman dancing. She couldn’t force back the laughter anymore and almost fell on the ground she was laughing so hard.

As she was still laughing she walked past the Boggart wiping her eyes from the tears that had welled up in them and continued on her way. Needless to say she didn’t see the anti-gravity mist that was hovering slightly above her feet as she walked straight through it. Before she knew it her sky was now the ground and she was walking on what appeared to be endless sky. She groaned having hit this rough patch in the task but then thought as she walked of a way to reverse it. Her mind probed through every idea of how to end it. She pointed her wand at herself thinking of how foolish it was she hadn’t though about the mist being caused by a charm. If that was the case it could be easily reversed. “Finite Incantatem.” she said and was back on the ground.

She looked in front of her and squinted seeing something in the near distance. She picked up her feet and ran jumping over anything that might hinder her getting there as quickly as she could. As she finally reached it she noticed it was a sphinx. She stopped since she had remembered reading that they could be very violent and she had no intention of getting hurt since she had already dirtied herself up pretty well in this maze. She remembered that they had somewhat of a fascination with puzzles and riddles…No doubt this one was an exception to that she knew at that point she would have to answer a riddle or puzzle to get past it. She took a deep breath and waited for the Sphinx to speak.

Good job, you have finished the first part. The second part is where you have to answer the riddle. It is not so much as a riddle as merely an interesting and confusing question. Your character may RP how there thinking about what the correct answer is. Whatever your answer is, you have to explain why you think that answer is correct, whether in RP or not. You will get points if you explain why you think that your answer is correct, even if it is not.]

The sphinx spoke: "To go ahead to the last part of the maze, you must answer my question. Now, if you are ready.." The sphinx paused, then spoke the riddle. "There was once a town with just one healer. A sickness emerged in this small town and all the people got sick, except the healer. Some of them healed themselves, some of then went to the healer, but the healer only cures people who do not cure themselves. However, one day the healer got sick. So who cured the healer?"

[Remember, this question does not have a simple answer. Think of an answer, and look at the sentence carefully to see if that answer is right. And remember, explain your answer.]

Christabelle listened to the riddle, looking puzzled for a moment. She sat there in thought for a moment racking her brain over and over as she replayed the riddle in her mind. The healer couldn't heal someone who healed themself so no one healed the healer because the healer was only sick for one day... she trailed off in thought realizing that couldn't be the right answer. She sat in thought for several more moments and then it hit her what the answer was.

"Time healed the healer." she said in reply to the Sphinx's riddle, "Because the healer couldn't heal them self and the healer was only sick for one day. Also the healer only cured people who couldn't cure themselves." She finished taking a deep breath waiting.

The sphinx thought about the answer for a while, staring at the girl. Then it nodded. "Thats an acceptable answer which demonstrates quite a bit of intellect," it said. "You may pass." With that, the sphinx moved out of the way, clearing the way for the last part of the maze.

[Now, you can RP the last part of the maze, where you go and take an object. We will let you know what the object is later, however, it currently serves as a portkey, which will transport you back to the beginning of the maze]

Christabelle smiled having gotten the answer right and passed the sphinx. She let out a grateful sigh having gotten that out of the way. She knew sphinxes could be extremely dangerous creatures. She would have assumed that would be why she had to answer its riddle to get past. She had been extremely grateful that she hadn't gotten wrong and had to do something to protect herself from what the creature might have done to her.

She continued walking down the path. After several minutes she found her feet entangled in devil's snare. She felt it crawling up her leg, wrapping itself tightly around her. She knew better than to fight against it and had her wand pointed down. She silently cast blue-bell flames on it knowing that they didn't like dry, light things. It quickly released its hold on her and she ran as quickly as she could from it making the first right that she had seen.

At the end of the path she had chosen she had found the center of the maze. She ran for it knowing she would find something that would get her out of it. At least she was hoping it would. She jumped over several patches of anti-gravity mist, just barely missing all but one which caught her and she quickly reversed it with finite incantatem.

Once she reached the center of the maze, she didn't even look at the object in front of her she grabbed it to find herself transported back to the beginning of the maze.
