GENERAL APPEARANCE:
Altair is, by most accounts, a rather unique looking young man. His features are not large, may seem slightly irregular, but are also decidedly handsome. However, the general expression of his face is not pleasant. It is not hostile, or angry, but rather disagreeable nevertheless. His dark eyes hint at both coldness and calculating intelligence, and flowing dark hair often hides from view his, perhaps, irregularly proportioned forehead.
At 5’8, Altair is at an average height for his age but also growing fast. Due to his eating habits (he hardly ever eats) and lack of exercise, he is very slender and not muscular at all. For fashion, Altair almost always dresses in dark colors, and makes a point to don clothes both simple and rather formal. He prefers wearing dress shirts and jeans when forced to don muggle clothes.

While Altair likes to believe that he is far more extraordinary than his peers, he does not actually possess any particularly unique, or great, skills. He is very intelligent, but due to difficulty in putting his thoughts into words, and mediocre academic performance, few people recognize that trait. Altair has a rather poor short term memory, perhaps a result of cramming his head with an enormous amount of potentially useless information. That is not to say that he is not knowledgeable in most useful subjects, quite the opposite actually. He had a variety of interests at different times, such as writing, drawing and playing music. However, Altair lacks the concentration and dedication required to progress in such activities. Altair main interest is the dark arts. His early experimentation with dark magic yielded fine results when used on his enemies, and his interest in them grew deeper after that.
He can be quite awkward in social situations, but Altair is not shy at all. Nevertheless, either out of too much ego or a lack of it, he often avoids socializing with ‘popular’ people. Instead, Altair befriends people with low self esteem and creates a loyal group of friends from that lot. Despite a harsh and often cruel nature, Altair has a curious ability to inspire loyalty in his friends, a trait that he himself lacks.

CHARACTER HISTORY

Early Years:
Altair was born to Timothy Thorne and Alhana Majere. His father was a muggle, and his mother a half-blood. His mother named him Altair a rather common name in her maternal family, which has been pureblood for generations. His mother, a narcissistic and opportunistic woman, left his father few months after he was born. His father was a lazy man living off a vast inheritance, but despite his faults he was quite kind to Altair and raised him when his mother left. However, his father soon married again, this time with a woman who spent half a decade trying to get rid of Altair. Despite knowing all along of his magical heritage, Altair had never believed it completely, thinking it might be a story his father told him to make him happy. However, by the age of seven, there was no doubt he was a wizard when he made his stepmother vanish for a whole day. Several other odd incidents followed. Needless to say, both Altair and his father were both relieved when he got his Hogwarts letter.
Hogwarts Years:
Having been obsessed with magic from an early age, Altair went to Hogwarts with a plan to learn everything about magic and being the best at it. He had just one friend in his early years, and spent most of his time in the library or chess club. Small and quite bookish, he was at first a usual target for bullying for older Slytherins. By his third year though, he decided not to stand it any longer, and ended up retaliating with hexes, which got him into trouble but also gained him a bit of popularity. Academically Altair was a complete disappointment. He missed as many classes as he could without getting into too much trouble, and made absolutely no contribution in any class. While Altair is ambitious, he also firmly believes that academic achievement doesn’t get you anywhere in the real world, so naturally he never made any attempt to study for his OWL’s. He continued NEWT’s with just four courses, giving him more time for more important things.
