What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Charms Lesson 1 Empty Charms Lesson 1

[[the bell has rung. Anyone stated to have entered after the bell will get a special treat. Unless you post that you are tardy, you are assumed to be on time]]

The class tittered and stirred a minute or two after the bell rang, for no professor had entered. It was just as some of the more responsible students became worried that a young looking man flew into the room, obviously the professor, but obviously not Jess Potter. Instead of heading for the front, he sat in the back, between two girls at a table. He allowed for a minute of silence before shouting, "Oh! Right! I'm the professor! That's hardly an enterance though!"

Milo d'Eath rose to his feet and pointed his wand straight into the air. Instantly, the lights began to flicker as loud music hit the ears of the students. Milo hopped over the desk and hurried to the front. He sat on his desk and took in all of the appalled faces before clicking his fingers. The music and lights stopped and he grinned.

"Hello, kiddies! My name is Milo d'Eath, and I am an alcoholic. I kid- I've gotten a handle on that habit, I can stop whenever I want. I am not a professor, I am a sub. You may all call me Milo but points will be given if you can think of a cool name. Professor Swanky, Dr. Shag, etcetera. Jess Potter has been eaten by the Loch Ness monster- or so I presume, though he probably just has the sniffles. So until he shows up, you will be teaching me about Charms since I can't remember a damned thing."

He smiled, looking around at the students. "So. What is Charms? What's the definitions, the point, what can you expect?" He glanced around. "Everybody, shout out an answer, shout over each other. Whoever can be heard above the racket will get points for correct answers. Come on. ANSWER ME," he called, demonstrating the volume he was asking for.

Cliff stared around, confused. Where was the professor? He had made sure to be early, why couldn't the professor? He and his mate Tommy casually spoke between themselves, questioning what could be the holdup. And suddenly, a man ran in, practically knocking their table over as he sat down. Cliff glanced at Tommy. The man suddenly pointed his wand and the circus began.

Cliff began to smile, unable to keep from tapping his foot. An oblivious sort, Cliff was not going to question any sort of fun that presented itself. He and Tommy immediately began bobbing in their seats, causing a ruckus. The lights turned off and Cliff bobbed an extra second, before freezing and ducking his head.

He listened to the professor and then was asked to shout. Cliff glanced around and decided to kick things off. In a loud voice, Cliff shouted, "Er... CHARMS CHANGE WHAT AN OBJECT DOES- IT'S FUNCTION." Tommy nodded and shouted, "IT CHANGES THE PROPERTIES OF AN OBJECT."

Alex sat back in his chair, relaxing, he sat next to a boy, Alex was very bored, and tried to use his deduction. All he could get was that he was a Gryffindor. Then a man just burst into the door, The fu- Alex thought, but his thoughts where cut off by the man talking to everyone. The man had turned on lights and music, and Alex couldn't resist the urge to get out of his seat and break dance, which he was really good at. But then sat back down.

Then the man introduced himself, and everything. All Alex could think was, Best. Sub. Ever. Then the sub asked about charms. "A charm is a spell that adds certain properties to an object or creature. Charms are distinguished from transfigurations in that a charm adds or changes properties of an object; it focuses on altering what the object does as opposed to what the object is." Alex explained, which he knew, because weeks before, his mother had locked in his room and forced him to study. During the fourth year he didn't have many good grades.

" For example, the Colour Change Charm causes something to flash different colours; the Levitation or Hover Charm causes an object to levitate; the Cheering Charm improves upon a creature's mood. An object that has a lasting charm placed on it is called bewitched, though charms in general appear to last longer than other spells. " Alex explained.

((Apparently Alex studies, I don't I use the Harry Potter wiki. xD))

Aidan had been sat in the corner, not wanting to be late for his first Charms lesson. He was a bit surprised at the shouting of answers. He wasn't a very shouty-outy kind of person. He liked to put his hand up and be picked on. He wasn't used to being surrounded by all these older students. They clearly knew way more than him, and he didn't like that. He liked feeling clever. He'd have to try and shout out something.

What is a Charm? Well, he thought, transfiguration changed an object/being into another. Charms made things move, stop, fly and such. But how would you define that? They change the properties of an object? Yeah, someone had already said that. They change an object/being's abilities, without turning it into something else? That was a rubbish explanation. But he needed something. He couldn't just sit in the corner quietly. Well, he could, but that would achieve nothing at all, so logically it would be pointless.

"Err...Charms change the properties or abilities of an object or being, without turning it into anything else." Aidan tried to yell out, though he wasn't as loud as most people. The people around him would have heard, but anyone at the other side of the room would have had trouble, especially with the amount of people shouting things out. How could anyone learn in this environment, he wondered. He liked quiet and order. Not chaotic and loud. He would try this though. He would be open to knew things, he told himself, remembering his father's words, 'Hogwarts will help you open your mind, don't fight it son.', and he trusted his father so decided to go with it.

Damitrius felt herself shrink back in her seat when she saw Milo come into the class. Merlin ... please no. she thought, covering her ears to try and block out the music, not thar it did any good. He was their sub? Oh merlin ... Damitrius knew how ... odd, Milo could be and he'd just shown the others that too. Please don't let him realize I'm in here. she shrank back into her seat even more, wanting to just disappear right there so he wouldn't see her.

Usually, when the professor asked a question she'd be trying to answer it quickly, but rout now she didn't want to draw attention to herself. She kept her hand down and tried to just blend into the background, keeping her eyes on her older brother. Hopefully everyone else would keep him busy enough. Why did he have to be their sub though ... right now she'd even prefer Alexis to Milo ... at least she wasn't as embarrassing as he was.

Amelia starred at the empty spot a professor should be in the classroom. She wasn’t use to a professor not being there before her. She turned her head as a young man entered, she just rolled her eyes. Did she really have to answer? She would rather not. She had an answer but certainly wasn’t going to yell over other kids. She had grown up in a family that had taught her the complete opposite. She knew that her parents weren’t here but that didn’t change the fact it was against part of her own moral system. She didn’t yell, when she did it was because she had lost her temper and when her temper goes so does her moral groundwork.

She just sat there half there, half somewhere else. She wanted to be anywhere else. She couldn’t really focus a side effect of her medicine for her head injury. She knew she should ask her mum to get her something else that had less effect on her. She would write tonight but for now she’d have to survive until then.

Milo smiled widely and laughed jovially as they all burst into a ruckus trying to answer his question and win points. "Beautiful!" he announced, clapping his hands and signalling the end of that phase. "Let's see. I heard you two, and, yes, you two, too. And even you," he said, glancing at a small Ravenclaw boy. "Just barely. Thus far, we have ten points to Gryffindor, twenty to the snakes, ten to Ravenclaw and I'll give Hufflepuff the point if Mr. Text Book Definition can explain to me what he said even means." He stood, strolling to the boy. "A memorized definition is nothing unless you can use your own words. What does that definition mean?"

He glanced around. "While he answers me that, the rest of you will be demonstrating your abilities. Choose your most complex charm you know and prepare to execute it for me. There's a cabinet over there full of small animals, pillows, feathers, whatever you might need to to demonstrate said Charm. First years, hang on. I'll teach you your spell as I go around."

[[OOC: All 2nd to 7th years will attempt to show Milo a charm. Just post saying that he has reached your student and then demonstrate your abilities.

1st years- Milo has taught you the incantation and wand movement for Wingardium Leviosa. Show your progress and attempts to master the spell. No first year should get it on the first try. (probably not even the second)

A properly executed spell will give you a few points, but an interesting, creative post will get you some more.

Once you have posted your character doing the assignment (or refusing too), feel free to mingle with the other students, or chat with Milo.

Also, note for all students: Don't copy and paste definitions, as it is highly irregular for a student to have them memorized word for word.]]

The sub for the class was entertaining to say the least. Brian could get into a class with a professor who was actually fun to listen to. He liked Professor Potter, but he could be boring at times, and Brian would find himself drifting off. There was something fun about Milo and Brian found himself entertained by him. So when he told them to do a spell, Brian whipped out his wand, and began thinking of something he could do.

At first he wanted to do just a regular charm, but then he decided he could make the class a little more interesting, so he figured out what he was going to do. He quickly got to the front of the line and walked over to the cabinet and pulled out a few of the pillows. Before anyone could say or do anything, he pointed his wand at them, and with a huge grin "Avifors!" The pillows turned into birds and they all scattered throughout the classroom. Brian did nothing but stand where he was with a satisfied look on his face.
