Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Potter's Army- 5th Meeting Empty Potter's Army- 5th Meeting

Post by Jaquellene Jack Dyllan Sun May 01, 2011 4:32 pm

Jack stared around at her group, who all looked bewildered by the set up of the room. That's because it had been transformed into an enormous obstacle course. She waited for everyone to gather before clearing her throat. "Hi guys. Okay, so I really hope you remember all those spells from last week, because today we're going to put them to practical use."

She paused. "The spells you will need to use are Accio, Protego, Stupefy, Expecto Patronum, Impedimenta, and Reducto." She let them quickly run the list through their heads a few times. "And if you need help, just let me know. But please try to do it on your own first."

"This is what will happen. The course starts with a dummy coming towards you that you need to Stun. You will continue on and a cage will fall and trap you. You must Summon the key and free yourself. Once you escape, three pillows will be sprung at you. Use Impedimenta and when they slow down, mid air, push them out of your way. You will continue on and two spells will fly at you, you can use Protego- NEWTS, try using Protego Totalum to block both spells, Basics use Protego twice. A wall will then fall in front of you which you must bread down with Reducto. And lastly, a dummy dressed as a dementor will fly at you and you must attempt to cast a Patronus."

She paused. "Okay, guys. Have at it."

((To do this activity, post your charrie's entire attempt with the maze. Don't bother mentioned who went before you, etc. Just go for it!))

Potter's Army- 5th Meeting Empty Re: Potter's Army- 5th Meeting

Post by Samuel Grigori Mon May 02, 2011 11:27 am

Sam couldn't help but think that Jack was doing wonders with Potter's Army, building them up to the people standing around him, and setting everything up in such a manner which seemed to prepare everyone for any eventualities, the current layout of the room seemed to be a physical testament to that, as well as all the effort that she put into it.

"I'll go first," he said, stepping forward and raising his arm. "Bloody dementor though, you know I struggle with the Patronus," he said quietly, shaking his head then focusing on the task ahead, noting where he would go well, and where he'd have try extra hard. With a quick nod to Jack and the others he muttered "Wish me luck," he said with a devilish grin, before launching into the maze of obstacles before him.

The first was the most easy of the challenges to defeat, it required hardly any effort, he'd been stunning things since early third year, so this would be nothing special, mind you, a moving target would be harder than he'd tried before, particularly with him moving as well. "Stupefy," he said, waving his wand and shooting a jet or red light at the fast approaching dummy, watching as it went wide and cursing, before firing off a second spell which hit it square in the chest, knocking it over. "Yes!" He shouted, before continuing on through the maze.

Jack might have told him it was coming, but it was still a slight shock when the cage dropped right in front of him, he himself only just missing being able to shoot straight through. He'd expected a warning of some sort before it fell, sadly his expectations hadn't been met. Looking around he couldn't spot the key anywhere, so he assumed it'd be hidden, probably requiring a slightly more powerful summoning spell than if it was out in the open. Jack had planned it well, that was for sure. "Accio key," he shouted, flicking his wand and thinking solely of the cage, so as to prevent everyone's keys flying at him. Sure enough, out flew a key which landed at his feet, enabling him to simply pick it up and open the door with it, moving further into the maze.

Next was the part he'd been looking forward to the most since Jack had run them through it, he was particularly good at Impedimenta, he'd always just had a bit of a knack for it. Running through the maze he was less surprised when the pillows sprang out (Having learnt to expect it at any time," and so he was ready for it. "Impedimenta," he cast, his wand pointed at the pillows, before pointing it at himself and casting the spell once more. Moving in slow motion he dropped to his knees.

And dropped

And dropped

And dropped

Until he hit the floor and slid... for quite a while... at the same time as raising his arms and striking the pillows, two with on hand and the last with his other, all at once, appearing on the other side of the pillow area just as the spell wore off, enabling him to jump to his feet just in time.

All at once, barely after he'd got on his feet two spells flew down the corridor at him, somehow tracking straight onto him. "Protego," he said, waving his wand and blocking the first one, "Prote-" he then repeated, but was just a bit too slow as he was knocked off his feet and rolled back a few times, thank god someone had left those pillows there on the ground.

Standing up he shook himself off, continuing down the path until a wall blocked his view. "Reducto," he said with ease, blowing the wall apart, only to reveal a dummy approaching him at high speed, dressed as something he'd thought he'd have more time to prepare himself for, the dementor.

With no time to prepare Sam raised his wand and shot the first spell that came to mind straight into the dementor, before realising that would be pointless. Focusing on something happy (Thank god this wasn't a real dementor) he pointed his wand at the "Dementor" and focused. "Expecto Patronum!" He cried, not quite getting the spell off right, but managing to produce a large white shield between himself and the creature, forcing it back until it simply backed off completely.

Feeling slightly disappointed he walked out of the maze and shrugged sheepishly at Jack, not looking all that pleased with himself. "Buggered up the patronus," he muttered disappointedly, feeling sure that everyone else would miraculously produce a corporeal Patronus, despite it being one of the most difficult pieces of magic known. Funny how all the eleven year olds could do that at this school, what an era this was.

(No time to reply but let me say, perfect reply. No character should do this task perfectly. Very realistic response.)

Potter's Army- 5th Meeting Empty Re: Potter's Army- 5th Meeting

Post by James Sirius Potter Tue May 03, 2011 2:05 pm

James made sure no one was around before slipping into the room of Requirement. This was the first time seeing the room and his first thought was wow. It had an elaborate obstacle course set up. James just arrived before a girl he had seen around before. Well everybody had really, she was the Triwizard champion and the captain of Gryffindor's Quidditch team and she appeared to lead Potters Army as well.

Natural born leader

James thought as she spoke. He stayed at the back of the room, trying to stay unnoticed by the other Wizards. He still wasn't sure whether he should have joined Potters Army.

This was his first meeting and he was still sceptical but he needed to do more than just mill around Hogwarts and for some reason he felt like he had to be here.

After watching one of the other Wizards do quite a good job on the obstacle course he let out a sigh and made his way through the small crowd.

"I'll go next," he said trying to keep his head low. This was the first time he had been in a room with so many of his peers at once except for the dining hall and he hoped they would not question his presence. He had made it his goal to avoid most of them for years. He let out another sigh and got ready to do the course.

First it was the dummy. He waved his wand lazily as he just strolled forward casually.

"Stupefy," he breathed and watched as the dummy fell to the ground, Stupefy was a spell he was very well versed in, right at that very moment he was glad he had paid more attention to Charms and Defence against the dark arts rather than the other classes. He came to a halt then stood completely still as the cage fell around him.

Right on Queue

"Accio," he said a little louder than Stupefy, this was a charm he used very little. A key flew towards him and just as he outstretched his hand it hit the edge of the cage and rebounded out towards the other students. He muttered a muffled curse and repeated the charm, this time the key zipping through the gaps in the cage into his hand.

"Idiot," he mumbled as he unlocked the cage.

Then came the pillows, another charm he was good at.

" Impedimenta," he said flinging his wand. He managed to get the spell perfect and the pillows flew away from him in the other direction. Then the spells.

"Protego Totalum," he said and the spells bounced off the bubble that surrounded him. He released the spell and the second last object, the wall.

"Reducto," he waving waving his wand but the wall did nothing. He let out a sigh and thought back to the Charms classes where he focused on the Duelling oriented charms and not the day to day ones.

"Reducto," he said and this time the spell working.

Now it was the Patronus charm. He had managed to do the full charm a few times while he trained alone and tried to think of his most treasured memory and swung his wand, saying the enchantment and making note not to yell. He did not however manage to summon a full patronus. He knew that it was not a real dementor and he was unable to unleash the emotions he had after hours upon hours of practising.

Instead of his full animal he created the head of a large bear which engulfed the dummy.

He put his wand inside his coat then made his way back towards the back of the room avoiding eye contact with anyone.

Potter's Army- 5th Meeting Empty Re: Potter's Army- 5th Meeting

Post by Andrew Thompson Tue May 03, 2011 10:10 pm

So Andrew figured that he had to run some sort of obstacle course. Sounded fair, so he decided to test drive his gauntlets some more. They were basically like second nature now, being able to perform simple spells and somewhat advanced. He still needed more pratice with actual magic however, seeing as they only amplify his abilities, not enhance it. But this would be a good run any way.

The first test commenced once he stepped into the ring. Slowly, a dummy in the shape of some dark claded person began to come at him. He grinned slightly and held out his palm. "Stupefy," he casted and a red flash of light spawned at his hand and hit the dummy, stopping it in his traps. He moved forward, pushing the dummy to the side and continuing forward.

The next task surprised Andrew to say the least. The cage fell quickly and locked itself around Andrew, leaving Andrew only enough time to throw his arm by his face, to try and protect his head from any lethal blows. But it was in vain however as the ceiling wasn't even close. Now was the part Jack told him about. To use accio. Andrew held out his palm and attempt Accio, yet to no success. He looked back down at his gauntlets and tried to figure out why. He sighed and toke of the gauntlet on his right hand and grasped his wand. He tried accio again, and only a few seconds later did a key fall onto the ground, about 10 feet nearby. "Aw come on...I should have mastered this by now," he muttered to himself. He accio'd again and this time received the key and made his escape.

The third challenge arrived as soon as he moved out of the cage. Andrew quickly using his instincts threw his left hand up and casted Impendimentia rapidly in his thoughts. He hit the pillows and the slowed down to where Andrew could move to the side without as much as a problem. They gently hit the cage with a soft thunk and then dropped to the ground at regular speed. "At least I got that down," he muttered again and continued forward.

The next one proved to be simple as well, just three spells and Protego Totalum. He had fought against Death Eaters, he was pretty sure he had this down. And to no surprise, he managed to protect himself from the first wave of spells. He felt cocky however and continued forward, not thinking about a last spell, which hit him and threw him down to the ground. He laughed slightly knowing that this situation was pretty funny, despite the fact that this was a real trail. Oh well.

The final challenge proved to be pretty simple to an extent. He tried using his gauntlets on the wall, but apprently the gloves demanded more concentration when it came to destruction spells. Simple charms like levitation were easy enough, but this was manipulating the environment. After a couple minutes, he managed to split the wall down the middle, a few seconds later crumbling the wall to large rocks. At least he got through it.

Now the final challenge lay ahead. A dummy dressed as a dementor. Honestly, it would've been more frightening if it had actually been a real dementor. But instead, it was just a dummy, standing still and doing absolutely nothing. That was sort of a pain. But he would go ahead anyway. He aimed his gauntlet one more and began to think of the thing he always thought of when he tried to cast a Protonus. At first, nothing came out but after a few tries, an eagle came out and hit the dementor, making it fly back. He smiled with satisfaction and retreated back towards Jack and the others.

Post by Louis Weasley1 Wed May 04, 2011 3:19 pm

Louis went into the maze. He was scared as hell. He lheard Jack say the spells.

Louis walked through the first part of the Maze. "Damn it, I'm going to die." He said to himself. He took his wand out. He heard something coming out the corner. "Screw this. Impedimenta!" He said to the dummy knocking it back.

He walked through some more. Some fake dementor came out. Louis walked more, wondering what his uncle Harry would say if he was still alive. Louis, don't fear, because not fearing fear itself will make it much easier. Louis had just confused himself but smiled. "Expecto Patronum!" He said, a hawk coming out, taking the Dementor away as a shield.

He unlocked a cage with pillows, they flew at him. "Protego!" He said blocking them. "Now for the other spell," He said. "Stupefy!" He hit the pillows, and then he looked at the wall. "Reducto!" He said blowing it up and coming out.
