Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Can *anyone* balance chemical equations? Empty Can *anyone* balance chemical equations?

Post by Vito Dee Symons Thu Oct 28, 2010 6:48 pm

To make a long story short, I got myself stuck with more homework than I would have originally had in the first place had I kept my mouth shut during my last Chemistry class- oh but it had been the perfect opportunity to break out that beautiful sarcasm of mine... but *speaks in sing-song voice*' I fought the law, and the law won' .

SO, I need assistance, and I have no one other than the- hopefully- intelligent in the area of balancing chemical equations, people of PA to tern to, due to my actions, however, I need to be able to understand the answers you people come up with- if any- so don't just post an answer, give me an explanation. If you could.

Now’s your chance to save your favorite admin's *** from the big bad wolf! Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

1) Sn + Cl2 -----> SnCl2

2) Al + O2 -----> Al2O3

o.O so easy.

The first is a synthesis reaction. It is already balanced.

Two is also a synthesis reaction. Since there are an odd numbers of Oxygen atoms in the product, you have to multiply the whole product by two to change the amount of Oxygen atoms to a product of 2
Al + O2 ---> 2(Al2O3)
Now you have 4 Aluminum and 6 Oxygen atoms on one side. So you just change the values of the reactants to match it.
4(Al) + 3(O2) ---> 2(Al2O3)

*eyes go wide* Teach!? Is that you?

Well, know we know who pays attention in class and who doesn’t. Thank you, the great Darren almighty.

As for you members who didn’t come up with anything- and in the words of my favorite teacher, I believe a simple “You disappoint me,” will do. XD

I hate chemistry.

Just wait till you start using moles.

Balancing is easy by comparison.

You know, I bet you've heard this before, but you'd make a brilliant motivational speaker.

Lol. I used to do a job that was rather like going to a motivational seminar every morning. It gets old after a while. I like a healthy dose of scepticism in my life.

Having to use moles is motivation for listening properly when you learn logarithms in maths, though.

Pft. Oh yes, because what's life without a little doubt? It really is quite a bother when writer's block comes into play... but then again, I suppose if it were all motivation it would be like human beings without flaws; boringly perfect.

Aye aye captain!

I don't plan on failing, and In all seriousness, thank you for the warning, it would be wise of me to stitch my mouth shut over the weekend and sit through a few classes to make sure this stuff is actually sticking in my brain.

I hated chemistry. I didn't listen for a few months and then tried to again... I suggest making sure you pay attention. Haha. And just wait for moles... We celebrate mole day at our school. 10/22 I believe right? It's been awhile. And yeah, our teachers are that dorky.
