What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. First Task Empty First Task

Post by Darren Mon Dec 07, 2009 5:20 am

THE FIRST TASK

One by one, the champions are chosen to enter the maze. The maze is located near the forbidden forest, with people sitting around the area to see the task.

You will first Roleplay a post about how your champion gets through the maze and then see's the Sphinx, don't go further than that. Remember, there will be obstacles in your way, but not like magical creatures and etc. These obstacles will be like the one where Harry had to step through that mist which turned the world upside down and etc. Remember, there will be various hints and puzzles throughout the maze which will indicate which direction to go to. You can also use other spells to help you go through the maze. Remember that the task is a test of logic and intelligence.

You are not allowed to summon any help, have any objects with you (besides your wand) or anything like that.

You will have to make this all up. You will be marked on your creativity, so make it interesting! Length doesn't matter.

You have 3-5 days to post your first RP.

First Task Empty Re: First Task

Post by Abbey Dawn Wed Dec 09, 2009 12:35 pm

Abbey gulped as she looked at the towering maze of green leaves standing in front of her. I can do this, Abbey thought. There's nothing to be afraid of. Just think about your parents and your sister. Think about how proud they'd be if they saw you win! Abbey smiled, the thought of winning better than she'd ever imagined it would be. Abbey finally got the courage to enter the maze. She grabbed her wand out of her back pocket, where she always kept it, and took the first step into the entrance of the maze...

Five minutes later, Abbey was walking through the maze, looking around so she wouldn't be caught off guard by a spell or jinx put up to trick her. Abbey whipped her head around as she heard a slight scractching noise coming from the leaves. She pointed her wand directly at the wall of green, but found that it was just a tiny ladybug crawling around. Abbey wiped off the sweat that was beading on her forehead, and looked up at the sunlight, burning bright overhead. She shook off the thought of not being able to navigate the maze and dying of sun poisoning, and instead walked further into the maze....

Abbey had navigated many twists and turns now. She was afraid that she had taken the wrong way at some point, but she tried not to worry. Abbey came to a crossroad. She could either turn right or left, but she wasn't sure which one to try. Abbey decided to try the left, and walked forward. Just as she had entered the left side of the crossroad, Abbey's skin began to get a tingly feeling in it. Her arms, legs, and every uncovered part of her body began to itch. Abbey swatted at her arm, thinking that this part of the maze had a swarm of mosquitos living in it; anything could be in the maze. It was a possiblity. But just as she swatted at her arm, it began burning! The pain was like being stuck with a thousand needles! And it wouldn't stop! Abbey cried out in pain, swatting her arm, but it was no use! All that happened was the burning sensation began to escalate. Abbey pointed her wand at her arm and shouted, "Aguamenti!" Water shot out of her wand and hit her skin, splattering her champions uniform and her face with cold liquid. Expecting the burning to stop, Abbey put her wand down. But instead, the burning continued. "Aguamenti!" Abbey shouted again. The water hit her legs and arms, but it did nothing. Abbey ran out of the left side of the maze and finally came back to the crossroad. Not having the energy to run anymore, she collapsed on the ground and panted until the burning finally stopped...

Abbey sat on her knees about 20 minutes later and looked over her body. There were no markings from the burning. Abbey shivered, even though it was scorching outside. She never wanted to experience that pain again. Abbey stood up and walked towards the right side of the maze and mumbled, "That was definitely not the way to go..."

Abbey continued walking, and occassionally sprayed water into her mouth to quench her thirst. She looked at the watch she always kept on her wrist, and realized that about 45 minutes had passed since she'd entered the maze. Strange, she thought. It defintely felt like longer. Abbey shrugged the feeling on and continued walking. She was feeling a bit dizzy, was was odd considering that she'd eaten lunch right before the task, knowing that she wouldn't get out for a couple of hours. Abbey looked up at the sky again, but she was walking in a patch of shade, for the clouds were covering the sun. Abbey didn't think about it, so she kept on walking. 5 minutes later, Abbey was feeling very dizzy. She looked down at her watch. She prodded at it, and gasped; it had stopped working. Abbey tried not to panic, but she now didn't know how much time had passed since she'd entered the maze. Abbey's legs suddenly felt like jelly. Abbey felt woozy and dizzy, and her jelly-legs were almost impossible to navigate with. Abbey walked into another turn and suddenly fell on the floor. Abbey then realized that the section of the maze she had just been in had been enchanted to make the user dizzy. Abbey glanced at her watch again and saw that it was now working; the section had also been enchanted to make you lose complete track of time. Abbey panicked, and realized she'd been in the maze for an hour and a half! Abbey tried not to worry, but it was impossible.

Abbey turned around to find her next way through the maze when she saw it: a giant sphinx sitting in the middle of the maze, guarding the way through four different entrances.

Good job, you have finished the first part. The second part is where you have to answer the riddle. It is not so much as a riddle as merely an interesting and confusing question. Your character may RP how there thinking about what the correct answer is. Whatever your answer is, you have to explain why you think that answer is correct, whether in RP or not. You will get points if you explain why you think that your answer is correct, even if it is not.]

The sphinx spoke: "To go ahead to the last part of the maze, you must answer my question. Now, if you are ready.." The sphinx paused, then spoke the riddle. "There was once a town with just one healer. A sickness emerged in this small town and all the people got sick, except the healer. Magical powers could heal this sickness. Some of the people in the town healed themselves, some of then went to the healer, but the healer only cures people who do not cure themselves. However, one day the healer got sick. So who cured the healer?"

[Remember, this question does not have a simple answer. Think of an answer, and look at the sentence carefully to see if that answer is right. And remember, explain your answer.]

Abbey gulped staring at the sphinx with its black beady eyes. Abbey tried shaking off her fear, but it was hard staring into the eyes of a sphinx; they weren't exactly something you would invite over for tea! Abbey heard the sphinx's riddle and repeated the line in her head a couple of times. The answer seemed simple to Abbey, but the sphinx had said that it wasn't supposed to be simple. Was it a trick? 'Well,' Abbey began thinking. Obviously the people in the town that healed themselves knew how to cure themselves. And the people the healer hadn't cured wouldn't know how to cure themselves or they already would have. And the healer wouldn't cure himself because he doesn't cure people who cure themselves. So it must've been the people who had cured themselves!

Abbey smiled at the sphinx and said, "I believe I know the answer." Abbey said. "I think that the people who had already cured themselves did. The healer wouldn't cure himself because he doesn't cure people who cure themselves. And the people who had cured themselves ovbiously knew how, and the people who hadn't cured themselves didn't know how." Abbey explained. "So...am I correct?"

The sphinx stared back, thinking of the answer. Then it decided. "That is one of the two correct answers, good job, you have shown intellect not shown by the others. You may pass," the spinx said, impressed. It moved out of the way.

[Now, you can RP the last part of the maze, where you go and take an object. We will let you know what the object is later, however, it currently serves as a portkey, which will transport you back to the beginning of the maze]

Abbey smiled exuberantly. She couldn't believe that she had really answered correctly! Abbey passed the sphinx and entered the next part of the maze. Abbey looked at her watch again and realized she had just over 45 minutes and reach the portkey that would take her back to the beginning of the maze. Abbey crossed many different sections, until she finally came to a dark, damp section of the maze. The green vines that twisted around in the multitude of directions seemed like they gave off an evil aura. Abbey reached instinctively towards her back pocket....nothing was there! Abbey panicked and grabbed at her pocket, but her wand wasn't there! Abbey checked her front pockets and anywhere else in her champion's uniform where she could have possibly misplaced her wand. This was a champions worst nightmare! Her wand and her brain were her only help in this task, and she needed her wand; she could sense it just from the vines and leaves that made up a wall of the maze. Abbey calmed herself down, taking deep, soothing breaths of air. Once her breathing was back to normal, Abbey walked back in the direction she had came from. She knew that searching for her wand was costing her precious time that she didn't have, but she couldn't simply finish the task without her wand.

Abbey was back at the beginning of where she had been five minutes ago. There, on the ground, was her wand. "Thank goodness!" Abbey said to herself. Abbey reached towards her wand to pick it up. Just as her fingers had clasped around it, a vine snapped out and wrapped around her wrist. Abbey shrieked and pulled with all her might in the opposite direction that the vine was pulling her in. She yanked her wand free of her hand, which was turning a light shade of purple from the pressure that the vine was putting on it. Abbey put it in her other hand and shouted, "Sectumsempra!" The vine was slashed in half by the spell. Abbey scrambled off the ground, thinking she was free to go, when even more vines and tendrils from the wall of the maze flew towards her. "Ahh!" Abbey screamed. Green leafy vines slithered around her waist, her ankles, and her wrists, pulling her towards the ground. "Let go of me!" Abbey shouted. "I didn't mean to make you angry!" Abbey grunted and pulled herself up by her hands, where her wrists were free of the attacking plants. "Sectumsempra! Sectumsempra!" Abbey shouted, flailing about. Her wand slashed off an endless amount of plants, but every time one seemed to be dead, another one took it's place. Abbey continued shouting the curse and killing the plants, when the last one finally let go of her foot and slithered back into the maze wall.

Abbey panted and clutched at her side where a stitch was from running for the phsychotic plants. Abbey looked up from herself, and saw sitting in front of her, five different muggle objects lying on the ground in a row. Abbey had found the portkeys.
