Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. People always says the best job is the one where you are the boss. You just need to sit all day in your big, sterile clean office and yell orders to everyone else. The good thing is if no one is yelling at you as well, but even if someone does that, even then you are in the better position that those who are just... not the boss to anyone.
But Aneta Markova hated her job. Mostly because she gets bored while sitting in her own big, sterile clean office. She is the person who likes action, the chance to do something and be the best. And she can't be the best if she will just sit here and tell to others what do to. She likes to do everything alone, in that way she can be sure the job will be done in the best possible way.
Perfectionist, someone would say, but she prefers well organized and hard worker instead.

So, when on this sunny day she came to the Ministry of Magic, she was more than happy to see they are short with people. Louis is still somewhere, she didn't hear anything from him for a relly long time and she started wondering if she should ask someone to try to find him. He is one of the best here, and she can't allow herself to lose him. Kace, on the other hand, was busy dealing with Beatris, the girl with the smallest brain and most immature the one could ever meet. But she was loyal, so Aneta decided that she can be tolerated. She was like her own little pet.

Once when Aneta decided to take a case, she realized it will be in the best interest for everyone if she takes the hardest because on that way, others will have only fewer responsibilities, and on the other hand, the job will be done great. Hard worker, as said before.
So she finds this thing about murder but then again, her boss probably won't allow love her do it alone. Too many things to do, she would probably say. Pathetic, she didn't know that Aneta did even harder things and it was easy as sleep. But, she doesn't want to argue so she looked at the list of workers.
Caleb.
She met him, he is Death Eather as well.

If she really needs to work with someone, that will be someone to who she can trust. And she can always trust to her brothers and sisters among Death Eaters. They are like one, people smarter than others, with great ideals and completely different view of the world that that mortal at the order, or maybe even neutral. You can't be neutral in the war, even if you don't want, the side will choose you in the end.

She left him to note to come to her office as soon as he comes at the Ministry, and then took the coffee and started reading newspapers.I'l rather say

Caleb wasn't sure how much he liked Aneta.

He had no real problem with her. In fact, it fit his own interests to know a fellow Death Eater was in a position of power, especially considering the fact that Bishop seemed to have no sympathies for their cause. However, Caleb's loyalties to the Death Eaters were being shaken, as no action seemed to be happening. It was driving him mad, and having another complacent Death Eater in a position that could have been used for their cause was more than frustrating to him.

He knew he could hardly blame Aneta. It was on D'eath to mobilize their forces. Still, he was human. He could have some misplaced anger.

Today had been a little hectic, a few Aurors having called out. He had teamed up with Orlando Abrams in a morning jaunt to clear a perimeter in a London magical community where a potential illegal artifact bust was going down. Once they crawled back to the Ministry, he found a note on his desk and soon found himself walking towards Aneta's desk, tugging on his waistband and pushing a hand through his hair.

He was ushered into her office by her secretary and he smiled as he stepped across the threshold. "Morning, Ms Markova."

"Good morning Caleb, " Aneta said without any emotions in her voice, and she didn't even look at him when he entered in her office.
"Make yourself comfort, we are leaving for about 15 minutes, I just need to finish this" with that said she finally looked at him and show him papers she wanted him to read. There is no need to say that out loud, he would know what to do if he was smart enough. And if he wasn't, then he wasn't good enough to be her partner.

Aneta wasn't able to decide if she liked Caleb or not.
He was good Auror, of course. And being Deather Eather made it only better in her opinion. But she didn't know him, and if they would work together, he should know who is the boss.

"We have the murder" she finally said and left the papers she was working on.
"Probably someone our, I'll explain you everything when we came there. You know there is a little trouble because we are short with people so I decided to take a case. And you will be my partner. Don't make me regret" Aneta stood up and took her purse from the desk.

"Now move, we don't have much time" she left the room without the second glance, the fact was that he need to follow her.

Caleb made a noise of agreement and stepped further into the office, pulling out the seat across from her and dropping into it. He clasped his hands together, leaning forward slightly as he rested his forearms on his knees. His eyes travelled over the office briefly, always curious to peek into what his superiors considered to be important enough to decorate their offices with.

He glanced up as she held out a file full of reports and he took it from her with a "thank you", opening it and beginning to read through. After enough time on the force, it had become second nature for his eyes to dart towards the sections that were most important, such as known aliases, suspected crimes, criminal record, etcetera, etcetera.

She spoke again and he glanced up, nodding. "I won't make you regret it," he assured her, his smirk twisting comfortably onto his lips.

And, without much warning, she was up and hurrying out the door. He sprung up from his seat and fell into step after her, tossing the files back onto her desk. "Let's do it."

Aneta Markova didn't want to hear him talking she didn't make mistake choosing him, time would show.
"Deeds, not words, Caleb" she smiled but that wasn't honest smile, it didn't come to her eyes while she was making her way through the Ministry of Magic.

"She stopped walking and grabbed his hand.
"Stay close," she said and without any other word, apparated them far away from the ministry, directly at the forest.

Some Aurors were already there and she looked at them.
"Move away, you are free to go, I will solve this" Aneta waited until all them are gone and then looked at Caleb again.

"I think someone from DE did that. We need to research and if we realize this is really done by someone from Death Eaters, we need to make this to look like the suicide or mistake" she glanced toward body lying on the ground, without any sight of life in dead eyes.

((Let me know if any of the details I add weren’t what you were intending. Had to make some stuff up for Caleb to be able to comment on it))

Caleb was surprised to see Aneta dismiss the other Aurors. There seemed to be more than enough there to work the case and figure it out without the intervention of their boss, especially considering that she claimed they were swamped. He supposed it was more efficient to have two clever Aurors on the case rather than four mediocre ones-

Oh. That’s why she had chosen him.

He circled the body, frowning as he took in the scene. As far as he could tell, this wasn’t the actual scene of the crime, just a dump site, and there was a putrid smell that made him think the perpetrator had tried to hurry along the smell of death to tempt nature to take its course and creatures to finish off the disposal. Maybe they thought it would look like a better cause of death.

He shook his head. “I don’t think it’s ours. First off, we haven’t done anything in months. Second off, no dark mark in the sky. Third off, I don’t see much point in killing someone and half-heartedly trying to get rid of the body. Either make a point and do it publicly, or get rid of it. If it is one of ours, I say let them get caught. They’re not worth saving if they’re this sloppy.”

(It's more than welcome, I don't like when someone lead the thread, you are more than welcome to post anything. P.S. Beatris is a killer)

Aneta let Caleb look at the body.
That was why she chose him, he was the one who would try to impress her and because of that, he would look at the crime scene carefully. And that was way better than anything other Aurors would do.
That's why she didn't just make him listen to her and do whatever she wanted.

"Actually, I am hundred percent sure it was someone of us. And that person didn't do this because Lorcan said that, she did this just because of fun." Aneta frowned and step closer to the body.
"I need you to find out how exactly this person was kiled. This person I am thinking about has a pattern, and this looks just like something she would do. And I won't put her at Azkaban. She is pretty much valuable. She has... connections. But she is really young, there are so many things she needs to learn" Aneta shook her head disappointed.

Caleb didn't like purposeless violence. One might have called his and Kit's attack on Grimmauld to be purposeless, and part of their plan was certainly to seem random. Where the Death Eaters were inert, they would be active. Where the Death Eaters played nice, they would play dirty. Sometimes that meant attacking someone who didn't seem to deserve it. But each act of random violence would be done with certainty and strategy, and they would never be so foolish as to drop a body uselessly where it could be found.

"Then I double down on my previous comment," he said. "This is sloppy. It's directionless. It's, pardon me, it's idiotic. This sort of violence does nothing for our cause." He reached down and flipped the man's jacket open, reaching into the pocket and withdrawing the wallet. He shuffled through the cards and papers, shaking his head. "He's a no-name nobody. Why not snap up her connections and cut the chord? Surely, we have higher standards."

He didn't understand.
Why in the hell didn't he understand? Did she really need to explain everything to him?
Did she need to say how important this was, why they needed to save that idiotic girl?
Aneta didn't like the feeling when she needs to explain something. It was almost like if she need permission for something.
And there she was, with the man who said he wouldn't disappoint her, but yet he succeeded to do that.
She looked at him calmly before she started to speak.

"Look, I don't need your explanation why this was idiotic. I am aware of that fact." She paused for a second and came closer to the body before continuing, now really annoyed.

"Do you know about the girl who is Death Eater, and she uses alias Sophie Greyback?" It was the rhetoric question so she continued without waiting for his answer.

"Sophie is important because for some reason, Lorcan actually likes her and he would probably kill us if we let her go to the Azkaban. Second, her father is Fenrir Greyback and he would kill us as well. And third, and probably most important is the fact that she works as Auror, Beatris Greyback. She is there to spy for Death Eaters." She looked at him once again.

"Do you now understand why we will do everything we can to hide this so she won't be suspected?" Aneta said completely emotionless.

Caleb was going to get himself in trouble.

How was it that after years of playing the game and biting his tongue he now felt so anxious to be doing more? Caleb believed it was his restraint that set him apart, and it was exactly that, restraint, that he was accusing this murderer of lacking. Her lack of restraint was what made her deserve consequences, and here he was, losing his own.

But he had been idle for so long. Working so hard for absolutely nothing. And something about the certainty in Kit's face when she unleashed Fiendfyre upon the Headquarters of the Order and let a street full of innocent people die...

He bit back what he wanted to say. Screw Lorcan, screw Fenrir. But he couldn't help but say, "Yes, because both have been such forces of nature. And we don't have any Death Eaters working in Law Enforcement."

He sighed. "I can do it. I understand that we're doing it, and why. I just disagree."
