Small Packages Empty Small Packages

Post by Angus Donohue Wed Dec 02, 2015 3:02 am

The calendar had just ticked over from November into December, and with it, the weather had seemed to gone straight from having a bit of a nip in the air with the fragrance of leaves. It had gone straight to a bitter chill and a dusting of large snowflakes. It always took Angus a day or so to get into the swing of winter weather. And today he had things to do. He had been sent to Diagon Alley to start on Christmas shopping. Some of the decorations for the house had to be replaced. It amazed him how 8 little kids could rip up decorations that were supposed to be out of their reach. It seemed that there were precious few things that actually were out of their reach.

He had a list. Decorations. Some of the gifts. Lots of wrapping paper. Tape. Baking supplies. More wrapping paper. Boxes. Deliver orders to the toy store and the book store for gifts for the kids. More wrapping paper.

He had his own things he wanted to do. But to get them all done, he was going to need more help. Or he was going to have to buy a few more owls.

Isobella walked down the street towards the Leaky Cauldron, having already been out and about earlier. It had started snowing so she picked up the pace and reached the Leaky in no time. She walked out the back and through the secret entrance into Diagon Alley. She looked around trying to find Angus because he needed help getting all the presents for the kids. She started walking along the alley when she finally spotted him and smiled. She walked over him then reached up kissing his cheek, "Hey sweetie. So what's on the list?" She asked giving him a big smile. "Maybe we can split up the list that way we can get it done quickly?" She had her hands free since she had everything she needed in her pockets.

She had her own list for the kids and the adults, especially Angus. She wanted to buy him a nice present but had to make sure that he wasn't around when she bought it. She just didn't know what to buy him so she knew she needed to talk to Khaat about what to get him. She never knew anyone who was harder to buy for but then it clicked and she knew exactly what she wanted to get him.

"Hi," he smiled and kissed her. "Lists, Dear. I have lists." He showed her a fistful of lists. "I made the mistake of asking if anyone needed anything. Everyone gave me a list. Here. Read and laugh. Everyone has put wrapping paper on the list. The kids tend to demolish it. Khaat told her father she was going to save up his old Daily Prophets because the kids really don't understand much more about paper than the ripping it off part.

"Anyway, yeah. Robert needs cigarettes, and he's sent orders for Christmas to Flourish and Blotts and to the toy store. Khaat's got more freaking stilettos to pick up--like the woman needs any more heels. I promised the kids a fresh stack of story books. Kate ran out of some odd imported angora yarn for a soft sculpture she's working on...And every list has some special order Christmas gifts that need ordered, like yesterday. And Michael's boys first birthday is coming up on Christmas, so there is that too.

"You sure you want to help with this?" he looked at her and laughed.

She laughed when he showed her the fistful of lists. "Oh my that's a lot of lists that are there." She said giggling softly. "Oh well that would be the easy part of the lists with wrapping paper. Yeah Rose does the same with the paper as well." She said laughing as she looked at some of the things on the lists.

"Ok so we split up some of the lists, I'll take Khaat's list. Just so you know some women think they never have enough shoes. I can get Kate's list too since I know what angora yarn is, we'll get it done." She said with a smile as she looked around at the shops. "There's plenty of time left in the day to get everything that everyone needs I'm sure we can get some of the things rushed on the Christmas gifts if need be." She then thought about it and wondered if they really would get everything done in time.

"Of course, you need the help and it will help me get my shopping done as well." She said laughing as she took Kate's and Khaat's lists from him. "Want me to take anyone else's list?"

'Well, Khaat loves heels. Any sort of high heel. Stilettos are her favorite, but she's one of the few women I know that can actually run in stiletto boots. Makes Marcus crazy. He simply breaks the heels off her boots if they get into a bind. He's ruined more of her shoes--completely on purpose. He's bought her flats, and she rarely wears them. She's threatened to put heels on his shoes if he breaks the heels off any more of hers. I do hope I get to see that, if she follows through.

"But, I'm not surprised there are more shoes on my list. I'll go to Flourish and Blotts. There is a large order of books there, and that's liable to be heavy. And that's close to the tobacco shop, so I'll pick up the cigarettes too. Do you want to stop at that shop down the street that has all the baby stuff? We do need to come up with some sort of decent gifts for Michaels' boys for their first birthday."

"Well now I know what to get her for Christmas shoes." She said laughing softly. "Well she has one up on me with running in heels. I can't run in stiletto's, if they have a thick heel I can but other than that I'll end up breaking my neck." She laughed. "Oh I would definitely love to see that happen." Her eyes lit up as an idea hit her head. "I think I'm gonna have to bring Khaat with me here sometime before Christmas." She grinned as she thought about a gag gift that her and Khaat could give Marcus. She looked at the lists for Khaat and Kate, she knew where to find all of things on the list easily.

"Well I hope the closets are big enough for all the shoes." She said laughing. "Yeah I'll go to the shop with the baby stuff, there's several things I'd like to get the boys. They have a lot of good stuff there, the boys will definitely have some really good presents. I'll make sure I don't go overboard, or I'll try not to." She grinned thinking of the things she could get the babies. "So if we can't hold too many more things we can take them to the cottage that way the kids won't see them. Or is there a better place to hide the kids?" She asked feeling giddy about going Christmas shopping.

"You haven't seen her closet?" He laughed. "There isn't a muggle celebrity alive that can rival her closet. It's an A-list celebrity walk in. Its a huge room with floor to ceiling shelves, racks, drawers--in dark woods, deep soft carpet. A section for everything from evening gowns to sweats and everything in between. A big wood island in the middle for accessories like jewelry, gloves, scarves...all that stuff. Abbey loves to play in there, even though she's not supposed to."

He listened to her talking about how to hide the gifts from the kids. He grinned. He drew out a ring of keys and took a key off the ring and gave it to her. "There are three guest cabins. That's not including yours. I don't consider you a guest anymore. Anyway, I don't know if you've followed the path down through the trees and around the barn, but there's a little culdesac back there, and that's where the other houses are. We can fill one of those cabins from top to bottom and nobody else will know we've put anything in there. That key goes to the first one. We can put a virtual Christmas workshop in there if we need to."

"No I've seen it, remember I borrowed a swim suit from her." She said laughing softly. "I definitely will believe that, she has a lot of clothes. I wouldn't even know what to do with all those clothes," She laughed more thinking about how big her closet was. "Yeah Abbey told me she likes to play in there. If my mother had a closet that big I'd do the same thing. Except I probably would have mass amounts of the clothes on the floor." She said honestly.

She took the key he gave her and listened, "I haven't but I did notice it. I was afraid of getting lost on the path that I hadn't had the change to explore. Okay we will that one filled with all the presents but I'm sure we're gonna have to sneaky about it." She said laughing knowing how good the kids were at finding things. "Virtual Christmas workshop? How will that work?" She asked curiously. "I can say that I have honestly haven't heard of someone doing that." She wanted to know how things like that would work and wondered if it would help them with wrapping them all. "Oh we might need to get some gift boxes for the things that can't be easily wrapped in the paper." She said looking at him.

"I can get a couple of great big dining tables from Robert. We can use one for anything that needs assembled. We can use the other for wrapping paper. I can have several sets of floor to ceiling shelves put in and some locking cabinets.. Maybe we want one just for wrapping paper stuff like scissors, tape, paper, ribbon; and for assembly tools--like screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches, that sort of thing.

"We can use the locking cabinets for things to be wrapped, and other shelves for things that are already wrapped. If I change the cabinets to have more doors, then we can have more compartments to lock things away from the others. I can make sure the everyone has a different key that unlocks their little storage area in the cabinets.

"I'm not so worried about the kids' gifts. We can use some of the bedrooms to put their things in. Its not like they're going to be able to get access to the cabin to look at their gifts. And, by the way, house elves are great workers for either assembling things or wrapping things. And they're even better guards to keep presents a secret."

As he was speaking, he looked over Bella's shoulder and in the distance, he saw James and a younger member of his pack tailing a young woman. She didn't look much older than seventeen. She certainly wasn't old enough to protect herself from the likes of Blood. He couldn't just do nothing, but he didn't want Bella involved in it. He watched them follow the young woman into an alley.

"Do me a favor," he kissed her forehead, "Go back this way," he pointed behind him, in the opposite direction. "The tobacco shop is back that way. Something's come up. I'll be right back." But--that wasn't a guaranteed thing. Not where James was concerned. He remembered the small box in his pocket. Well, this isn't how he wanted to do this either. The antique ring seemed to deserve far more romantic of a presentation than this was going to be. His grandmother had worn an antique ring that had been passed down to his grandfather. Now, it was time for the ring to move on.

It was a ring Angus had always liked, even as a boy. He'd liked the way the light played off the large heart shaped diamond and the small diamonds that flanked it. He had always liked how the wedding band seemed to flow with the engagement ring and made it look like the two rings just fit together perfectly. He'd left the wedding band at home, though. That was for another day. Today, the ring was resting in its bed of blue velvet, in its wooden box with the cloisonné lid. It had been there since his grandmother had passed.

He pointed her in the direction of the tobacco shop, and then he drew the box out of his pocket and pressed it into her hand.

"Here," he said rather unceremoniously, closing her fingers around the box. "In case I forget. You can open it once you get inside at the tobacco shop." He kissed her quickly. "Be right back."

He dashed down the street to try to help the young woman before James killed her. There hadn't been even a ghost of a chance he'd have actually forgotten to give the ring to Bella. Never. This was far more about him wanting to be sure she knew how he felt--just on the outside chance James won this skirmish. James hated to leave survivors.

"Well that would help out a lot having those big tables in there. That would be really good idea with what everything that needs done. Well maybe we can have one for the assembly with a small basket that has the screwdrivers, hammers, and wrenches. The other the same way except the basket full of the ribbons, tape and scissors. That way we can keep them in reach while the presents are wrapped." She said with a smile just thinking about everything.

"It would be a good idea for the locking cabinets for everyone that way no one could see what they got from someone else. That's a really good idea." She said thinking about it then tried to figure out what she would get him for Christmas. "That way when they can wrap their presents or have one of the elves help so that person wouldn't know. I didn't even think about that."

"I'll have to Rose's in the cottage because she's really good at accidentally finding things. I had to get creative last year." She said with a small laugh. "Well when I'm wrapping presents I'll see if I can have them help me with them."

"Okay," She said when he kissed her forehead. She looked the way he pointed and knew something was up but knew he needed to go to work. "Okay, I'll get Roberts cigarettes while I'm there. You want me to wait there for you right?" She asked wanting to be sure that way she wasn't a target with being in the open. She knew that when he said that something had come up wasn't something good. She wanted to be absolutely sure she knew what she had to do.

She felt him press something into her hand and looked at him. She wrapped her fingers around the box when he closed them over it. She gave him a small smile and nodded, then kissed him back. "I'll be waiting.

She saw him dash down the street then quickly walked in the direction of the tobacco shop. She walked into the store and hit with the smell of tobacco. She bought Robert's cigarettes then walked to where she wouldn't be disturbed and opened the box he gave her. Seeing the ring that was resting in blue velvet and smiled, taking the ring out of the box. She placed it on her ring finger of her left hand, a single tear fell from her eye. 'Come back to me Angus' She thought to herself as she looked at the ring that rested on her finger. She looked at the box it had been and thought about the man she loved with all of her heart. She knew what her first words she would say to him when he got back would be, so she waited for him to come back to her.
