Welcome to Potter’s Army

Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Hogwarts Classes play a major role at Potter's Army. They are an essential part of the roleplaying experience that you will have as a student character. Classes drive group interaction, and represent one of the best ways to interact with other student characters.

We do not want classes at PA to simulate High School or University classes. Rather, the classes will be event based. The goal of classes is not to only teach the subject, but to use the environment to encourage group interaction and create an interesting roleplaying experience. Classes at PA thus function more like how they did in the books - as plot devices and interaction with other students - than an actual in depth study of each subject.

Hogwarts students are divided into three groups; 'Basic studies' students (Years 1-4), OWL (Year 5) students, and NEWT (Years 6-7) students. This is done in order to ensure that there are enough students in each class to make the classes interesting.

Each class lasts for 4-6 weeks. This ensures that time won't be an issue. There will be plenty of time to conclude each class properly.

Only one class for any particular group will take place at any one time. Previously, we had several classes running all at once. This led to confusion among students, and also made some classes relatively dull. We are ditching this system. Instead, there will be ONE class per month for each group of students.
You can see exactly what I mean by looking at the schedule below.

You can't sign up for all canon classes. Classes are meant to be interesting at PA. And... no matter what we do, we can't really make classes like Arithmancy as interesting as something like Defense Against the Dark Arts. For this reason, that class, and several others, are not taught in the same manner as DADA is. Note, this does not mean that the class does not exist in Hogwarts PA, only that there will be no class events for them.
The classes which will have class events are; Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divination, Herbology, Potions and Transfiguration.
