Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

ADAM TARANIS HAWK

------------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION
------------------------------------------------------------

FULL NAME: Adam Taranis Hawk

NICKNAMES: Hawk is the closest anyone comes

AGE: 16

ALLEGIANCE: Dark Followers

HOGWARTS HOUSE: Slytherin or Ravenclaw

CLASSES: DADA, Transfiguration, Potions

WAND: 9 ½ inches, Sycamore, Runespoor Scale. Often unpredictable.

PLAY BY: Harry Lloyd

------------------------------------------------------------
APPEARANCE
------------------------------------------------------------

HAIR COLOUR: Black

EYE COLOUR: Brown

COMPARATIVE HEIGHT: Taller than most

BODY BUILD: Well-defined, a little muscular

GENERAL APPEARANCE: The first thing people normally notice about Adam, after his rather impressive height, are how intense his eyes are. While not the deepest colour, they stand out under his thick eyebrows like knifes through skin, piercing and unsettling. He is, however, a handsome man, well bread and impeccably kept. He believes that someone with blood as pure as he should always dress the part, and to that part he is very particular about shaving and dressing. He walks with confidence, and oozes a quiet, arrogant charisma. Most of it is a bit of an act, to hide his insecurity of the Voice in his head, but it does make him strike a fairly impressive figure.

------------------------------------------------------------
PERSONALITY
------------------------------------------------------------

TRAITS:

  • Quite stoic
  • Reserved
  • Observant
  • Manipulative
  • Easy to annoy but slower to anger
  • Domineering
  • Arrogant
  • Aloof
  • Smart, but not exceptionally so
  • Warm and friendly, to the right sort of people
  • Probably insane

LIKES & DISLIKES: Likes: His family (Excepting his brother), The Voice within him, Being in control, Observing, Writing, Deceiving others and hiding his mental frailty, The concept of maintaining blood-purity, Cloaks (Because they are badass), White Wine

Dislikes: The voice within him (It's a complex relationship), His younger brother, Being confronted or berated, Half-bloods or Muggle-borns (More so half-bloods), Rain, Unnecessary frivolity

GOALS: Aside from finished school as well as he can, Adam's main long-term goal is to do something that will encourage the purity of bloodlines, to try and repopulate the wizarding world with as many pure-blooded witches and wizards as possible

HABITS & QUIRKS: Adam will often take a long time to respond to someone speaking with him, so as to hear out the Voice first. He can also seem quite hard of hearing because of this, as often the Voice will drown out noise around him and make it difficult to focus. He is not too bad at controlling this, but it isn't always simple.

BOGGART: Adam does not scare easily, however he does have a fear that one day he'll no longer be able to differentiate his own thoughts from the manic commands of The Voice. For now, he can almost ignore it, but he is almost certain that it will not remain that way forever. Potentially, this is what gives him such a respect for The Voice, and why he forces himself to think of it consciously like something separate from his own thoughts. What he sees a Boggart as, therefore, is himself, chained and in a cage, eyes clearly mad, a slave to his presumed madness.

PATRONUS: Adam is unable to conjure a corporeal patronus. The memory he uses for a normal patronus, however, is sitting on his father's lap, looking at the family tapestry and following the bloodline back, seeing how pure it is, and feeling so at home.

DEMENTOR: The werewolf attack on his home. When a dementor is near he can hear the snarling, the howling, the tearing or fabric and the smash of glass. He can hear his brother's scream too, but he would never tell anyone that.

VERITASERUM: That he has a Voice in his head that more often than not tells him to commit unspeakably horrible crimes. It isn't exactly a dinner table conversation.

MIRROR OF ERISED: The purity of his people, and complete control of the Voice and himself.

PERSONALITY: Adam is a strange boy. To most people he is cold and aloof, even ignorant of them. His high, zealotous opinions on blood purity lead him to believe himself above so many. It is more than that, however – he sees them often as aborrations, as a disease that should be extinguished. He will not refuse to interact with these people at all, such things would be impractical, but he is careful around them.

To pure-bloods however, he is incredibly charming and warm, fantastic company until given a reason to be otherwise. He is a very confident talker, and so if he wishes to be friends with someone he will generally find it quite easy to do so. The only real obstacle is the Voice within his head, a Voice that will often tell him to kill someone. Adam is not a slave to it's demands, but he will often 'converse' with it, trying to find a logic or reason behind it. So far, he has been unsuccessful in this regard. It does, however, lend him to being a little erratic and unpredictable – That is, more so than a 16 year old young man usually is.

CHARACTER HISTORY
------------------------------------------------------------

EARLY YEARS: The Hawk line is one of the last long, entirely pure-blooded wizarding families in Britain today, and it defends this line fiercely. The rumours of inbreeding did nothing to deter Arthur Hawk from choosing to carry on this proud tradition when he became patriarch of the family, following his own father's death. An only child, Arthur was determined that he would have as many offspring as he could, to ensure the name and line lived on regardless of the cost. Blood was everything to the family, and Arthur was the family. He was more than a little upset when he was first given a daughter, Aurora. When, some years later, his wife Elizabeth gave birth to his first son, Adam, he could not have been happier.

Adam was a fairly unremarkable babe, or that is his recollection anyway. His memories do not truly begin until well after his brother and sister, twins, were born. No, his first real memories are from around the time of his second birthday, a walking and inquisitive toddler.

He doesn't remember when he first heard the Voice.

In Adam's head, for all his life that he can recall, there has been a Voice, a deep Voice that commands him, that shouts, whispers or tells him what to do. These instructions are never pleasant – More often than not, they are commands to kill whoever Adam is looking at that that moment. Or to torture them, or to scream in their face. Adam asked his father once what it was, but of course, Arthur scoffed, assumed his son was talking about something silly, and waved it off.

Thankfully, while the Voice is often loud, Adam has never felt any obligation to obey it. It merely screams, but he can choose to ignore it, as best he can. As a child however, this led to him being distant from his siblings for a lot of the time, with the two twins becoming close friends and Adam remaining more of a loner in his youth. It was only when he began to approach 10 that he let himself open up a little, more aware that the Voice had no hold on him. This, however, opened him up more to the kind of games his father had been playing with the other two. Endlessly, Arthur Hawk pounded into his children the importance of purity: That the bloodstream must be kept flawless and perfect, and that any mutations or sullying would not be tolerated.

More so than the other two, Adam took this on board instinctively, not least because the Voice had been telling him similar things for years. If both his father and the Voice, two that had always been with him, believed it, then it must be so. Purity was not an option, but a necessity.

HOGWARTS YEARS: For months he read up on the history of pure-blooded families excessively, until he got his Hogwarts letter, and it was time for his schooling to begin in earnest. It took the Sorting Hat some time to put Adam into Slytherin, and not Ravenclaw like Aurora. The main reason for this, he assumed, was that the Voice was driven crazy by the sheer amount of students in the Great Hall. So many of them to be killed. So many to be maimed. It was almost glorious, in the most terrifying sense of the word.

His first year was a struggle, mainly because the Voice seemed to take time to adapt to his new location. It soon resumed the normal rate of instruction and screaming, and more and more Adam found himself searching for a reason behind the orders. He looked for patterns in who triggered it, and in what intensity, but it seemed so random, so unpredictable, that he soon gave up this train of thought. He did continue to seek justification for it's words, however, taking what it said more seriously than before, and being less afraid of his worrying, disembodied companion than he had been. When his siblings arrived at Hogwarts in his second year (Alex to Hufflepuff, Adrianna to Ravenclaw), Adam made more of an effort to make friends among his peers, unwilling to look lonely in front of his brother and sister lest the mention to his father that he was not doing the family name proud.

This continued to be the status quo for some years, a relatively normal life aside from the obsession with purity and the Voice telling him to kill people a few times a day. That was until the summer before Adam's 5th year, when his family home was attacked, by a pack of werewolves who clearly saw the rich home as a good target for a robbery. Whispers were that Arthur had irritated the werewolf population with his puritanical views, but Adam chose to accept the reasoning his father gave him, rather than what many newspapers said. It was a bloody encounter, and only with liberal use of the Unforgivable Curses were Adam's mother and father able to fend off the attackers, but not before one of the wolves bit Alex. At first, Adam was terrified for his brother's life, but it did not take long for him to realise the true problem – Alex was impure. His blood had been sullied by the werewolf curse.

Staring at his brother bleeding, the Voice screamed, for the first time about Alex, “KILL HIM!”.

It was hard to fight this time. Adam wanted to obey, but Arthur had other ideas. Outraged, he took his youngest son to St Mungo's, but he never visited, nor brought him home. As far as he was concerned, he had only one son. Elizabeth took a little longer to accept this, but eventually she did.  Adam chose to align with his father's decision, as the easier option over the Voices command, and within a few days he grew to hate Alexander for his failings, for his inability to keep the line pure. Both Adrianna and Aurora stayed tight lipped on the subject, but Adam cared little. Even when his brother was discharged from St Mungo's he was not welcomed into the family home. He was a werewolf, impure, an abomination. On that, Adam needed no encouragement to agree with his father. He took no heed of where his former brother went to live. On returning to Hogwarts that year, he did not speak to Alexander. He is a Hawk, through and through, and while he may be insane, he will remain Pure.
