"Training" Threads?
Welcome to Potter’s Army

Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

"Training" Threads? Li9olo10

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

"Training" Threads? Empty "Training" Threads?

Post by Khaat Lupin Tue Aug 13, 2013 12:27 am

Hey,

It occurs to me that perhaps some players that might be interested in some threads where their characters could work with "more experienced" characters to learn their jobs. Sometimes its a matter of the character being inexperienced. Other times, its the player who is trying to figure out how to make a new skill or job work here on PA. I'm thinking there's more than one reason these might be helpful.

For example, Robert or Khaat could work with healers or healer interns that want to learn more about healing or potions.

I have one thread for Brian to train an auror but I could offer a group thread for other aurors or auror trainees.

I do have 3 seers that perhaps could work with "younger" seers. And I'm guessing that some of our more "experienced " grads might be interested in helping some of the other grads with threads like this.

First, does this sound good to anyone else? And, are there other areas you'd like us to consider?

Would this include the mentoring threads for people like Hogwarts Professors/students? While it's not exactly learning their jobs, per se, the Seers and Aurors might consider doing lectures so to speak in Hogwarts. Like what was suggested for guest teachers.

I'm mostly asking because I can't see it working the other way around - Professors teaching, say, Graduates. Unless that graduate wanted to train under a teacher as a sort of internship. Like, if someone wanted to be a Potioneer, they could work with the Professor for a time before working as the real deal.

I'm seeing that as potentially two different things.

The students certainly need to work with professors and grad lecturers.

But there are also grads that will be doing task/jobs where it benefits them from working with perhaps a department head at their job or just someone who has done the job longer.

There are also things that, realistically, grads would get into more than students would. Example--magical surgeries, hunting dangerous wild creatures or dangerous criminals, etc.

I'm thinking they would be similar but some things would be for students and others for grads.

For a "trainer" characters; Rivah has worked basically every job in the Dept. for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, and is currently Department Head. If anyone has a job in that Department, or has a character that might be interested in dealing with magical beasts/beings/spirits, just let me know. Smile

Thanks Khaat, for this very good idea!

I'm not entirely sure what the status of professors is at Hogwarts, so I'm still not sure if Keiran is actually teaching there as of right now, but should anyone want to train with someone adept in Transfiguration, he's around. I can't say Audriana would be much help, since she doesn't go around sharing what her job is. Carth would probably be up for helping out with students or whomever/whatever if he's needed.

we won't be doing anything with Hogwarts just yet. we're still working on the redesign there. we'll be unveiling that closer to the start of fall term. but most likely some posts will change. they usually do tend to change fairly extensively every school year. we'll let you know as soon as we know.

but yeah, if there's enough interest in this, I'll make some sort of a sign up.

Jack can also help with creatures. She had particular expertise in Werewolf/Human relations, so she could definitely instruct perhaps the Aurors on proper protocol to avoid an attack.

And I think someone suggested Jack teach flying to Aurors.
