Basic Transfiguration Class Empty Basic Transfiguration Class

Post by Felix Barker Tue Sep 13, 2011 2:38 am

Ah Hogwarts, what.. wonderful memories they had brought Felix. Not. Felix had always vowed he wouldn’t step foot in Hogwarts again, and yet here he was, in his own office, boxes half unpacked, his mind now on the task at hand. Grindelwald had cleared his name.. and as though to show the world that he was ‘misunderstood’ had gotten Felix a job, as a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.. it was a good thing Felix had enjoyed Transfiguration class. Otherwise he wouldn’t be here. Felix stood in his office and glanced at the time. It was time for class.. His first basic class. Basic classes were usually boring, they had no idea what they were doing, and usually had entertaining results, and he could watch them and laugh at their mistakes later. It was just after lunch so they would be here soon.

Felix stared at the timetable on his desk, and then turned towards the door into the classroom, he wanted to make a grand entrance, and he waited until he could hear the room fill up with students. He had come in pretty late in the school year, and they had had substitutes for a while it seemed, and he had come in late as a real professor, and was about to take over. Waiting until it was obvious that most of the students were in the room, he waited for a moment, knowing they must be talking about the new teacher, and then swept into the room. His cloak billowed out behind him, and the door closed with a snap, a few people gasped, and Felix pulled out his wand, pointing it at the board and the words “Professor Barker” Appeared on it. He turned to the students, and a slow, small smile appeared on his face. “Good afternoon, As I’m sure you are all aware, you’re old professor was simply a substitute and today was the first real day of your new professor, it’s my pleasure to tell you all that I am him..” He smiled at the class again, showing off pearly white teeth.

“There are a few rules in my class that I’d like to make clear.” He pointed his wand at the board again, and his name disappeared and new words appeared on the board.
Rules:
1. You will address me by Professor Barker at all times
2. Any mention of past deeds will result in detention
3. Detention will be served with me.
4. No food in my class, at all
5. Keep wands away at all times, unless instructed to have them out.
6. Come everyday to class with required material, if you do not have your homework, you will have detention, if you are late, you have detention, you miss a detention, you will have another detention.

Felix turned around to face the class again and smiled at them all. “Any questions?” He waited a second before continuing. “Now, as I’m sure you all know, most classes have begun, and you have already learned some from your substitute am I right?” He waited a moment before pressing on. “Well, this class will be a bit more difficult for some of you.” He looked around the room for a long moment, before he smiled again, and sat down at his desk. “So I will start off the class with a simple question, What is Transfiguration?” He waited for a moment, and then smiled when a person in the back of the room raised their hand. Transfiguration is the art of changing of the form and appearance of an object.”

“Good” Felix said nodding at the slightly relieved student, and looked back at the class as a whole. “So Transfiguration is the art of changing the form and appearance of an object, transformations such as little things, like matches into needles, which is where we shall start next time, simple object to object transfigurations, starting off simple here, if you manage to get that right I will advance you, so don’t fear of ever being bored in this class.” He said glancing around the room, his eyes landing on each face for a few seconds before going to the next.

“Today though, I have a simple starting assignment, and you will be able to leave early from the class. All I ask is you read chapter one in your book, and write a quick essay with the title: What is Transfiguration? You may write what you wish, just make sure that is your title.” He spoke calmly, with no fear, as he looked around the classroom, knowing horrible things would be going through their heads, horrible things that were now having to compete against this laidback man, who was strikingly handsome, and extremely nice sounding, though a bit heavy on the detentions, and simply wanting to get out of the bad spot in his past. Without further words, he turned around and walked back into his office, waving his wand as he went, and the door to the classroom flew open, an obvious dismissal.

[OOC: Okay.. here’s the deal guys, I do my classes differently, as you can see. I use NPCs in my posts to answer questions. Please, post in this class and respond as your character saw the action taking place. ONE person may play the NPC if they so choose, but if someone else has already played the NPC, please don’t replay them. In order to get attendance in my class, please write at the top of each class post the following:
Name:
Year:
House:
That will get you your attendance, after that simply post your reaction. Homework is due in class, though not as long as he makes it sound to be.

Homework: A paragraph with a quick answer to his question: What is Transfiguration. Please it must be at least a paragraph, no extra research is needed, simply write your character’s point of view of what Transfiguration is. All homework may be posted at the end of each post.
Posts should have this format:

Name:
Year:
House:
[reaction towards thread]
----------
[homework]

If your character has any specific questions, you may post in My office, which can be found in this thread… if the question is needed in the post, feel free to ask, and I will answer it later if I feel it needs answered, other than that, feel free to have Felix ignore your hand
Future classes will not have this much explanation in OOC, they will simply have homework in them, and that is it.]

Basic Transfiguration Class Empty Re: Basic Transfiguration Class

Post by Anabelle Mulciber Wed Sep 14, 2011 8:34 pm

Name: Hitame Higurashi
Year: Third
House: Gryffindor

Hitame sat in the back of the class, staring back and forth from the board to the new professor. Her eyes were wide as she she read certain words on the board over and over again. Professor Barker... How could he be a professor?! After all he's done! Hitame wanted to scream out why he wasn't in Azkaban, but she knew it could have disasterous results, not only for her but for all her classmates, and she didn't want that.

Instead, she just stared at him now, her eyes still very wide. She had heard that he had been cleared of all charges against him, probably because of Grindelwald... and now he was a professor, and he was the professor to one of her favorite classes. Why did it have to be Transfiguration? Why not some other class? She sighed and kept her eyes on him, watching him closely, as if she wanted to attack him.

Her eyes began to narrow when he gave them a homework assignment, and she immediately started to write the paragraph that was required from them. Writing about Transfiguration came easy to her, so she would just be able to breeze right through the assignment, and just go hang out by the lake. She planned everything she would do, as she wrote. Just as the classroom door flew open, Hitame wrote down the last sentence she needed and she got out of her seat, and ran for the door... the first one to leave...

Basic Transfiguration Class Empty Re: Basic Transfiguration Class

Post by Trenton Thomas Wed Sep 21, 2011 8:12 am

Name: Trenton Thomas
Year: Fifth
House: Gryffindor

It was the first Transfiguration class of the term, and Trent expected anything but this. Even in his ignorance, he knew who Felix Barker was. It was the guy who was mentioned at the dinner table at home, home where both parents work at the Ministry, and who talked about almost nothing but the Ministry and Wizarding politics at the dinner table. Trent would often chew on his food quietly, and listen to them talk, not making many comments. It painted a stance of indifference, although he was listening to every word said. The sight, and the fact, of Felix Barker as the Professor was a sinister one to Trent. He had lost his beloved skateboard, thanks to the horrid rules about muggle items. Now this. He was beginning to think that everything was an omen now, of worse things to come. Trent sighed. He really did not want anymore fighting. Good or bad, he would let them all exist, as long as they did not disturb his life. But no, they would almost always disturb his. He was getting tired of it, at such a young age, that life inevitably contained all of these disturbances. It was not that he could do anything about them though.

Trent was sitting next to another Gryffindor boy, Spencer, but he was looking at the Professor, biting his lower lip as he watched Felix talk. For a young person, the man sure had a lot of rules for class. He had even called the previous Professor a substitute. Trent tried to gather what he should make of it. Yet another ominous sign. What had happened to the older one? Murdered? Tortured? Disappeared? There was no way of finding that out. It was like how he had woken up to find the lack of his parents' presence, the day he was due on the Hogwarts Express. Absence --- it was promising to be the only presence these days.

The class began with a simple question, although Trent merely sat there and listened to someone offer an answer to the Professor. Trent was still coming to terms with recognising Felix Barker as such. Still, there were no further signs of omen that followed. Felix had spoken calmly, showed no signs of likening to a torturer or a murderer, and even offered an earlier dismissal. Perhaps, then, he was not as guilty as the media painted him to be. Trent was happy with the earlier dismissal. Quickly, he took a parchment out and began to scribble on it. He wrote it all in simple language. While others were still scribbling away, Trent was stumped at his last word. He would write more if he knew what more. He almost wanted to draw a picture of a fox next to the question, as if he could poke fun in his homework. But of course, the boy remembered who the new Professor now was, and thought it wiser to avoid anything that could land him in detention. As such, he put down his quill, took his bag up, and walked to the front of the class to turn his parchment in. Happy for the quick end to class, he strolled out, almost to a whistle.

What is Transfiguration?

Transfiguration is a kind of magic that lets you change how things look. You can transform things, change human form, switch a physical feature with another, and make things disappear or make things appear. Like how you can transfigure things, you can also untransfigure them. Unlike Charms, Transfiguration needs you to be more exact. It is therefore a more scientific Magic than Charms, although both let you change the original form of a thing.
