Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

'Fun' in NY Empty 'Fun' in NY

Post by Alice Longbottom1 Mon Jul 06, 2009 11:02 pm

Now, Alice was abselutely certain that this was gooing to be one of the most boring vacations of her life. None of her friends were there, no other magical people, nothing. Just her and America. She had had her mom teach her some American phrases, and now she was pretty confident. But hr mom had to stay back home on a work emergency. She hadn't told Alice why. She never did. Now, all Alice felt like doing was stand on the rooftop of this New York hotel and continue munching her American hot dog. At this point, her boredom was so much that she wished even a Death Eater would show up.

Ben was wondering around a hotel in New York. His parents had sprung another surprise holiday on him. He had expected something though, they always did something. His family was somewhere in the hotel too. He didn't know where though. There was a mini-cinema, games room, swimming pool and lots more to do. He didn't feel like doing any of them. He ended up walking up the many floors until he got to the rooftop. There was a rooftop! He didn't expect that. There was another girl there too. He could only see the back of her. Wait...it couldn't be...Alice? "Alice!?" he asked, shocked. No way. No way!

Alice whipped around. "Ben!?!" she exclaimed, disbelieving. Of all people to meet over the holidays, Ben! Of course, she was delighted.

"How are you?" she asked, lowering her voice of surprise a bit. She didn't want to startle him.

It was! It was her! Out of all the people he could have seen, he was glad it was her.
"I'm good, you?" he asked, smiling. He walked over and stood next to her. He really liked her.

[[OOC: Not that Alice doesn't enjoy it, but instead of talktalktalktalktalk, maybe something exciting???]]

"Wow, hi Ben!" she said. She wanted to hug him, but maybe a little later on.

"How are you? Vacation treating you well?" Alice asked. She hoped he was doing well. She knew she was.

[[OOC: Hhmmm, what could Ben do that's exciting?]]

Ben smiled, glad to see Alice here. "Yeah, I'm good. Been around a bit, but had lots of fun." he told her. "Missed some people from Hogwarts though." he added. He hoped it was obvious he meant her. "You?"

Ben looked across the city. There was a whole bunch of things that you could do, yet they were standing on top of a hotel. Litrally. He wondered if his parents would let him go out with Alice for a bit. Or maybe they wouldn't notice. They were watching a movie, so that would be on for another couple of hours. His sister was somewhere, but she wouldn't tell. It was fine. He smiled at Alice, thinking of ideas.

"I did too." she said. She hoped that when Ben said he missed some people, that she was included. She figured that was it.

"Actually, muggles have aquariums, and some animals I haven't even heard of." she said. Actually, the only one she even knew was the Giant Squid. The first time they said they had one in the building, she thought they had captured it and had been very upset. "Maybe we could go to one. Or they have something called Broadway, which has magnificent shows." she said. But she didn't know how they were going to get a ticket. Unless you could buy one on the spot.

Ben listened to Alice suggestions. He didn't particularly want to stay in the hotel either, he would love to do something else. He wondered how much it would cost though. He had been given some muggle money by his parents, but he had no idea how expensive things were in New York. "Yeah, good ideas. I've got some money, though don't know how expensive things are." he told her, deciding to be honest. It would only cause trouble later on if he lied now. "I've got..." he rummaged in his pocket, bringing out some money. "Er, sixty of...it's dollars over here, right?" he checked, trying to remember the currency. It was bad enough remembering English Muggle money, let alone the American stuff too.

"Oh, don't worry, it's usually rather cheap." Alice said. Her dad had taken her on a trip once before, and taught her all the basics. "Most everything doesn't cost much, there are some expensive things, though", she said, taking out some dollar bills. "I'm not sure how much seeing the Statue of Liberty costs, but my dad got a 'credit card'" she said, pulling the thing out of her pocket.

[[OOC: A thirteen year old has her own credit card? *confused*]]

Ben was glad it was cheap. He didn't want Alice to have to pay for anything. He would pay if they had to. "D'you want to go to the Statue of Liberty then?" he asked, guessing she wanted to since it was the only place she had just mentioned. He was surprised she had a credit card. Could she sign for it herself? He was really curious, but though it best not to question her about it.
