Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Attack on the Express Empty Attack on the Express

Post by Guest Tue Aug 24, 2010 10:56 pm

The plot on the Hogwarts Express is going to grind to a halt unless we can come up with a way to resolve it.

Problems so far:

There are no guidelines for how powerful the demons are, what they can do or what the limits of their powers are.

The demons on the train are RPing as though they can't be harmed. Often this includes powerplaying and godmodding.

The students can't harm the demons. However, the demons can't harm the students, either.

Proposed solutions:

Guidelines for the demons should be established. Things like how their magic works, how they can be defended against, and what their strengths and weaknesses are.

The demons are being RPed by some of the best players on PA. If anything, those people should be held to higher standards. Powerplaying and godmodding should be unacceptable unless they've been given permission from the people they're RPing with.

All information that people who are playing a demon character need to know should be written up in the portal forum. I found out my character's motive by reading somebody else's thread. That's not acceptable. If the admin forums are like that, I can see why this forum is so dysfunctional.

This thread should remain up for conversations about how to overcome the problems with this plot. And people who equate a difference of opinion with an argument should keep things in perspective, because there are bound to be differences of opinion.

I think the best course of action would to trust that the admins will resolve the problem without you complaining. Don't you think Selwyn?

I was told to post this here, so I think I'll do what the admins told me to.

Zing

Ok, yes i'll go write an explanation on the demon's powers, and what exactly they are, it'll come out during the update, but for now leave it at "The demons will beat the students this time, not enough is known about them, and as far as the students know, they have no weaknesses" i'll sor tout the finer details during the update

So what about these patronuses then? I thought that was actually a sufficient way to defeat the demons. Is that not going to be the case? Are the demons going to be able to overcome those?

Attack on the Express Empty Re: Attack on the Express

Well when I was talking to Andrian about the idea, my first thought was that they should be irritated and eventually weakened by light. For example, they cannot walk out into sunlight. As for 1-it provides a nice intidimating factor if it's dark and 2- it would burn their skins. I kind of think of it as being the transition of the eyes from light to dark. The demons were trapped in a large dimension, having no light upon them whatsoever. So it would take some time before they would be able to adjust and be at full power again. That's when the students/graduates/teachers etc. could try and kill them.

Well I guess it could be kind of the 'nightlight' of magic and all. It would provide enough light to hold back the demons, but not hurt them. Although I'm sure Jess is already hellbent on his own thing Razz

Well, simple, you run, hide, use the dissolution charm on yourself, and do wait till the run and hide, i like the daylight idea, we can say that it was cloudy when the demons attacked, hence why they could do it, and nighttime at all the other times, however, students will not win this one, that is incredibly unrealistic, we, the admins, are sorting out the final weakness, but for now try and hide, or team up.
