General Appearance: Mercutio is generally an imposing figure, a big man in every sense. It's even been speculated there may be some giant blood in his family, though Mercutio merely laughs at the idea.
Mercutio has a host of bad habits and is rarely seen without his pipe, though to cater to modern sensibilities, he now reluctantly smokes it on the grounds. There's generally a small flask of something alcoholic on his person and he often carries a pool cue (from the billiards table in his rooms) in place of the more traditional wizarding staff.

General Personality: Just like the rest of him, Mercutio has a big personality. He gets on well with everyone, or likes to imagine he does. He's exactly the sort of person who'll try to jolly you along by making inappropriate jokes when you're feeling out of sorts. Speaking of jokes, Mercutio's knowledge of dirty ones is almost encyclopaedic.

H I S T O R Y
Family Information: Almost all of Mercutio's family is dead.

Childhood: Mercutio grew up when hating muggles was practically mandatory for purebloods. As a result, he grew up with the odd idea that muggles were something like sheep, and was very surprised when he met a muggleborn at Hogwarts - he'd expected them to be fluffier.

Hogwarts: At Hogwarts, Mercutio was a carefully average student. Not only was he smart enough to get good grades, he was smart enough to make sure he was never top of his classes and thus never suffered the teasing and notoriety that came of being the teacher's pet. Instead, he joined the quidditch team and was soon renowned as one of the fiercest beaters in Hogwarts history.

Adulthood: After he left school, Mercutio was free to follow his passion. He got a part-time job at an apothecary near his home, and in his free time did odd jobs in Nicholas Flamel's laboratory.

Some time in his twenties, he obtained a position at the Department of Mysteries, and remained there until his late fifties. However, when Voldemort rose in the seventies, he decided this was a good time to seek his fortune elsewhere, like in New Zealand.

While overseas, Mercutio spent most of his time in teaching positions for various magical institutions until he heard the Dark Lord had been killed by one of his own minions, no less. That gave him a good chuckle and he decided he'd been away from the homeland too long.
