Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Hair: Brown, very curly, slightly longer than shoulder length

General Appearance: Remy is a woman who is anything but dainty. She is rough around the edges, but can put work into her appearance when it is beneficial to her. She isn’t necessarily the most attractive woman in a room, but she knows how to work what she has. Her natural look is a bit more rough than other women might choose, but Remy is so rarely herself in the presence of others that her look can and does change often. She has a slightly muscular build about her from a lifestyle of physical activity, which she usually passes off as toned and lithe. Remy freckles the way most women tan; her face and shoulders are covered with the small brown dots, which softens her look just slightly. Her eyes are likely the most intense part of her appearance, and allow her to convey whichever emotion is most advantageous at the moment.

Motto: “A deception that elevates us is dearer than a host of low truths.”
General Personality: The first thing you must know about Remy, because it so thoroughly explains the rest of her personality, is that Remy has a personality disorder known as psychopathy. Now, your first intuition might be to jump to those most commonly described as psychopaths - a.k.a. serial killers and the like - but Remy is far different than that description. Psychopathy is, however, characterized by a lack of empathy. Psychopaths are often described as "intraspecies predators" who use charisma, manipulation, intimidation, sexual intercourse and violence to control others and satisfy their own needs. Lacking in conscience and empathy, they take what they want and do as they please, violating social norms and expectations without guilt or remorse.

Aside from these character flaws, psychopaths - including Remy - are typically glib and superficially charming, and many psychopaths are excellent mimics of normal human emotion. Some psychopaths can blend in, undetected, in a variety of surroundings, as Remy does on a daily basis. No one knows she has this disorder, but it allows her to behave in the way she does and to get what she wants. Without having to worry about the consequences of her actions, there is little to stand in her way.

Remy is a cunning individual, with a mind that is always working. She is a smooth talker, a manipulator. She is very perceptive, and sees the motivations of people, which she then uses to con people into getting her what she wants. Remy sees people: the way they think, the reasons they act the way they do, the things they want, the people they desire. Many people underestimate Remy because she does not brandish her skills for all to see. She doesn’t stand out in a crowd, nor does she make an effort to draw attention to herself. Instead, she works under the radar, so by the time you figure out what is going on, her goal has already been achieved, and she’s gone.

Remy is a master of deception. This is both a natural talent - born of her psychopathy- and one she has cultivated for most of her life. This is her primary weapon as an individual. She talks to people and creates the illusion of them getting what they need from her, and ends up taking what she wants from them and explaining that she never promised them what they wanted in the first place. This is where people underestimating her comes in handy. To most people, she is just the girl next door, freckled and fun, but her mind is always working, concocting the most personally beneficial lie. She uses what she knows about people to exploit their weaknesses, and nothing is below her when it comes to getting what she wants.

Remy is a chameleon. She can change her personality to fit any situation, but as soon as she has gotten what she wants, she falls comfortably back into her skin. She can be the shoulder to cry on, the whipping post, or just the girl in the back of the bar, unassuming, but very, very dangerous. Remy is a cheat, and she has no qualms about taking the things that she wants, no matter what the consequences. Remy cares more about herself than any other person, and she isn’t ashamed of it. She is selfish, but only because she has learned that in order to get ahead in life, you have to put yourself first.

Remy exudes a smooth kind of confidence, the kind of confidence that makes people trust her, even when they have no reason to. She exudes just the right persona for any situation, and always seems calm and collected, even when she is in way over her head. Remy believes that when it comes right down to it, there isn’t really much difference between what you actually know and what people think you know; in the end, both are equally powerful.

And one last final, but critical piece of information about Remy: she is about as close to a squib as one can be while still retaining the ability to do magic. Although she attended Hogwarts for seven years, her ability to perform magic is still pathetically rudimentary. She can perform only very basic spells, and even those can sometimes be a struggle. This lack of magical skill is what has made her hone her skills of manipulation, and the reason she aligns herself with powerful people – she is not actually powerful herself.

Family Information:
Damien Devaul – father, whereabouts unknown
Scarlett Devaul – mother, whereabouts unknown

Childhood: Remy only vaguely remembers her biological parents, as they left when she was five without explanation or reason. She can only distantly recall being dropped off at a farm on some godforsaken part of England, and from then on she was raised by the elderly muggle couple who lived there, Millie and Myron. She was taught to work hard, getting up at the break of dawn every day to work in the barn milking cows, baling hay, or the like. Other than a steady routine of getting up early to work and going to bed late because she was working late into the night, Remy’s childhood was unremarkable.

Hogwarts: When the letter from Hogwarts came, Remy was utterly perplexed. She was too young to remember her parents ever practicing magic, and Merlin knew Millie and Myron didn’t believe in or perform magic. But despite their disbelief, the couple decided to let Remy into Hogwarts after a visit from the then-headmaster.

Remy had had a rough time of fitting in when she first got to Hogwarts. Not having any magical background, but being a witch herself, she was rather behind the curve when it came to the ability to practice magic. In attending classes, she found that not only was she behind in her knowledge of the magical world, but she was also rather inept at magic on the whole. But she knew she would need to get through her lessons and graduate year to year in order to prevent a lifetime of working on a farm, and so Remy learned to do what she now does best: she lied, used people, and cheated her way through classes. She befriended the best and brightest in her year and then used them until she graduated or found someone smarter. Remy sweet-talked her way through her OWLs and NEWTs, and even the headmaster himself would never have suspected her to be incapable of the spells for which she was given credit.

Adulthood: After graduation, Remy never really settled into anything. When one lies and cons as much as Remy does, she can never stay in any one place for too long. Without any legitimate magical skill, she wasn’t likely to hold a job in the magical world for too long, but she took on manual labour and the odd waitressing or bartending job. She would stay only as long as she could keep her charade alive, but when people started to catch on, she would be gone before any questions could be asked.

Living place to place, job to job, Remy never really formed any solid relationships. The only relationship that she formed since she left Hogwarts was with the most powerful people she could find: the death eaters. Although they would likely kill her on the spot if they knew how much of a magical misconception she was, Remy has been able to keep the façade alive and has proven herself a useful tool. Although she would never admit it to them, Remy has only aligned herself with the death eaters because she feels they are her best chance for self-preservation and advancement in society; their cause means nothing to her, but she goes along with it to build the foundation of a bigger lie. If something better came along, she wouldn’t hesitate to change alliances to suit her own needs.

She relies on the more powerful death eaters for her protection in battle, but when it comes to everyday missions and being undercover, Remy is the one they depend on. She has managed to remain useful to the death eaters long enough to avoid any suspicion surrounding her hesitation to use her wand. In the ranks of the death eaters, it doesn’t matter how someone is “taken care of”, but rather that they are at all. Remy serves primarily as an informant, using her skills of deception and manipulation to get the information she and those she reports to need, though never forgetting that she is her own primary concern.

Short Roleplay: I believe you have many you could consult for this. Also, I don’t think I have ever written a “short” roleplay *wink*
