A Birth day Empty A Birth day

Post by Ruby Lyne Tyler Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:45 pm

Ruby for the last few months had just spent her days looking after Abby since now with her large tummy she could do little in regards fighting and cooking , not that she needed with the new help working wonderfully in the kitchen helping . She hadn't seen Angus since he left for amshion but she was okay with it since her due date wasn't for a few more days yet. Smiling she placed a building block on a tower Abby had built with the new boy. Pulling her self up she moved to a chair as her back hurt alittle from sitting on the floor.

"thats becoming a large tower Abby" she said smiling as she felt the baby kick her. With a deep breath she rubbed her stomach and waited for the pain to subside as it ushally did. Jess walked past and smiled at them before walking over and placing her hand on Rubys shoulder drawing off some of the pain but not all of it. A slight frown graced her face for a moment then she smiled and left heading to where she hoped Rovbert would be. Knocking on the potions lab door she called out.

"Robert are you in here?" she asked

The months had seemed, in some ways, to crawl for Angus. He had gotten his mobility back, largely due to a new potion that Robert had made. He was grateful that Robert had not given up in trying to help Angus repair the damage done to his magical system. The wheelchair had finally been removed, and Andrew had helped him with reconditioning until he had turned out to be battle ready enough to take command of a Paris mission to stop on of Gelding's auctions. He hadn't been in command for awhile, and it felt good to be back in the saddle.

The boys had been home for Christmas and were now back again at school, digging in for the final months of their last year in Hogwarts. Their grades had come up significantly, and, so had their skills. They had gone from being in the lower half of their house, grade wise, to being in the upper ten students in all the Hogwarts students their age. Their head of house attributed it to having a stable home life and a supportive family now.

Since Christmas, the nursery had been repaired and the equipment that had been lost in the fire had been replaced. Things were are ready at the duplex as they were going to get. Angus had had some hesitation about taking last night's mission, but since Ruby had appeared to be doing alright, he had take the task. After all, he wasn't a healer anyway. No matter when 'Ralph' arrived, Angus wasn't going to be much help anyway, whether he was there or not. Ruby's checkups had gone well, and now, according to Robert, 'Ralph' decided when she was arriving. Robert had calculated it as closely as magic allowed, and he believed it could be at any time now. He believed that Angus could go to Paris through the overnight to handle the mission.

The rescue had already occured, and when day broke, the team was back at the headquarters with one of the largest groups they'd ever had. What Angus secretly harbored was that he had slipped off from his team on his own for nearly twenty minutes during the mission, and he had tailed Gelding through the dark, narrow and twisted alleyways of an old section of Paris. He saw Gelding getting into the back of a car, determined to get away yet again. Infuriated, Angus had fired a fireball spell at the car, and the car had exploded. It wasn't until the car was being consumed in flame, after the initial blast, that Angus saw there were two men in the front seat, and a woman in the back with Gelding. He had caught a mere glance at the faces, and he wasn't sure but thought that the woman in the back with Gelding had been Suzanne. He had reconsidered and had had all intentions of putting out the flames, but muggles from the area were descending en masse to the area, and Angus had had to flee or risk getting caught. he had rejoined the team, and hadn't said a syllable to anyone. At this point, they had dealt a series of serious blows to Gelding and his organization. They had gotten, they believed, all the 'inventory' Gelding currently had, they had destroyed the newest and biggest warehouse Gelding was using, and, perhaps, had destroyed Gelding and his new wife.

He was back at the safehouse now, tending to issues in the aftermath. Making sure that the kids were tended to and making sure all the members of the mission team were back and accounted for. With any luck, he'd be able to head home in a few short hours.

Robert was upstairs at Brian's in his little workroom, working on a medicinal potion for Michael. Michael had somehow come down with a really nasty cold that Robert believed could very easily turn into the flu. Michael had insisted on going with the mission team to Paris, but Robert was hoping that Michael would go home after the work was done. He was hoping to take the potion to Michael in Hogsmeade as soon as Michael got back from the night's work.
This particular potion, though, was tricky business to brew. It could be very effective against a cold but even St. Mungo's didn't use it much because it was expensive to make and exceptionally difficult to make by all but the most experienced potions makers. The last ingredient in the potion had to be added with great precision and care because unless it was added one single drop at a time, the mixture would curdle, and he would have to start all over. And it had taken all bloody night to get this far. He was just leveling the pipette over the cauldron, when someone knocked on the door. He sighed heavily, frustrated. Now was not the moment. He checked his mixture in the cauldron and was relieved to see that it had not curdled.

"Come," he called, trying not to get too distracted with whatever this interruption was.

Jess pushed open the door slowly and stepped inside she could se he was busy but as she crossed the room she smiled " Just the report on how Rubys doing, I felt her have a contraction, even though she says she's fine, Im going to ask to stay close as I feel shes not in labor, except Ralph, ugh I hate calling her that, is getting restless." Jess said looking at Robert a little worried.

"How did the operation go tonight?" she asked "any chance Angus might be back..um soon. " she stressed hoping he would understand that what Ruby could not feel she knew and felt would happen. Jess knew the signs to watch for and could see Rubys restless ness that and the house looked cleaner than it had ever had even with cleaning spells, clothes had been folded beyond what they were use to.

"I have to say if she dosn't go into labor in the next day or so it will be a myrical, babys head down and engaged, has been for two days now." Jess sat down on a chair close by and watched Robert working on his potion knowing he'd know better having expiriance with Khaat and Abby. She hoped Ruby would not have to go to St Mungos for any reason but have a safe dilivery at home.

"Of course the baby comes now," Robert said dryly. He had delivered more babies than probably any other healer at St. Mungo's right now, and if there was one thing he knew for certain, babies had a way of selecting the most inconvenient moments to decide to arrive. "Yes, please just stay within earshot of her for now. You know how first time moms typically are. They tend to be more drawn out. Hopefully that buys Angus some time to get home. Actually, she's been head down now for three, but at this point that's neither here nor there. I'm guessing Ruby hasn't even realized I've been keeping track. Her anxiety takes over her without much provocation as it is, so I've managed to use simple things like acting like I'm simply going to pass through a doorway behind her to be able to touch her enough to check on things without doing a formal check. At this point, I don't see any reason to really be concerned, but by my estimates, I think she could have this baby in the next 24 hours, depending on how long labor lasts. Do me a favor and go down to the sickbay and get the blue canvas messenger bag and put it over somewhere in the nursery over at the duplex where its easy for us to get to but out of the way. I made up a birthing bag a few days ago, figuring we'd be doing this over in the master bedroom of the duplex. Let's make sure its over there. If for some reason, we need to do it here, we'll just go downstairs. or that's my intention, anyway.

"As for Paris," Robert continued, "I did expect to hear from Angus, but I heard from Michael instead. Michael sent me a message saying the rescue is complete, and they're drowning in kids right now. He says everyone is apparently uninjured and accounted for. He said he was going to help in the kitchen if he could, and he said Angus is shut away in my office. If Angus has shut himself off, then they've had quite a large scale operation tonight. That can make it tough to get the paperwork done. Frankly, the lad needs to delegate that off to Owens and the crew there to do the follow up and get home--if that's what he's doing. Just between you and me, the only other reason I've seen Angus shut himself in the office after a mission is if something has gone sideways, and that's the thing that concerns me. Do me a favor on your way back downstairs, would you? See if Jack or Jesse are free and see if they can pop over there and just see if Angus needs a hand with something. I'd go myself, but I've been working on this bloody thing all night, and I'm almost finished with it--if I don't screw it up. I've gotten to the tricky bit. Here's where it all comes down to precision. If I can add this ingredient, it'll all be good to go. If I buggar it up, then it's all a curdled mess of swill and I'll have to start all over."

Jess listened quietly to Robert and smiled when he said the children were being drowned she knew he meant bathed. She could not help but nod at his asses ment of when ..Ralph, would come into this world " I agree she been restless lately, and I'll find them, Jacks with the animals in the barn Jessie I think is outside with Yu doing ti chi, hes become close to Yu lately." hearing Robert talk of the blue bag and the potion she nodded " of course" she said " I'll find them and send one or the other to paris to help." With those words she stood up and moved to the door " don't over work your self " she said and smiled moving back into the hall way and down to the lower floor.

Heading out to the barn she smiled seeing Jack with the pygmy puffs " hi, Robert wants you to head to Paris and help Angus and Michael." she said to him walking over and taking the small fluffy animal from him. Jack smiled seeing Jess and let her take the puff kissing her gently henodded.

"On my way, don't stay up late for me love" he said softly to her before kissing her and aperating to Paris.

Jack appeared in the Paris headquaters and loked around seeing the children all running around and playing happily he smiled and moved to the main office to find Michael. Aproching the door he knocked Hard on the old wooden door then waited.

Angus was alone in the commander's office. He could smell some great aromas of a full breakfast being prepared in the kitchen. Angus knew he was smelling bacon, eggs, and some of Michael's maple pecan belgian waffles. He could smell the maple and the pecans and the waffle batter as it cooked. The kids were going to eat well this morning. He was also smelling fresh coffee brewing. He was standing at the window, looking out over darkening Paris skies, hearing thunder not all that far off, and in the distance, he saw flashes of lightning. A storm was coming. He had a couple fingers of firewhiskey in a glass in his right hand and a cigarette in his left. He'd found a pack of Robert's cigarettes, and he had pilfered one and lit it. He didn't smoke often, but there were rare moments where he made an exception for it.

He actually hadn't done a bloody thing in here except to find the whiskey and the cigarettes. He had no intention of dashing straight home, not while he still had Suzanne on his mind. He had done his job. Robert and Brian would not criticize him. In fact, they would be proud of the job that they'd all done this night. They'd gotten all the kids--every single one Gelding had this time. And, they'd dealt at least two other massively crippling blows to Gelding's organization by destroying Gelding's biggest warehouse and by taking out the car that had held Gelding, Suzanne, and his two top bodyguards. He felt sure that it would be weeks before Gelding could even attempt another auction, but he wasn't going to dash home and say even the slightest word to Ruby that Suzanne had perhaps been collateral damage in his efforts to stop Gelding tonight.

"Come in," Angus called, his mood just about as dark as the stormy Paris skies.

Jack pushed open the door and paused smelling the slight hint of whiskey and ciggrettes in the air. Giving a soft grunt as he didn't like the smell of cigerettes he walked over to Angus " Robert sent me incase you needed help" he said " and not with the mission" he added as he saw the look on Angus's face " so..what happened?" he asked staying stood with his arms folded across his chest as he waited for him to speak seeing only the back of him looking out the window.

Jess walked to the medical wing and retrived the blue bag Robert had asked be moved to the main room in the duplex. While there she made sure Rubys baby bag was ready smiling as she saw it was tucked slightly under the main bed. Inside were several onsies including one that read 'Daddys little myrical' she felt Angus would love it. Heading back out the room she saw Ruby walk in and begin to pace. " you okay?" she asked and watched as Ruby looked at her and smiled.

"yeah I just can't settle" she said as Jess walked over.

"its normal. warm bath and rest" she said.

Jack stood watching the weather turn out side the window and sighed " weathers bad here but I like it , after it brings out the scents better" he said trying to make conversation.

"All in all, it was a successful mission," Angus said. "No injuries on the team, and, by all our intel, we managed to not find just the kids he was going to move tonight, but we found even the ones he'd left behind. We can't normally find the ones he sets back, so that's going to hurt him. We have more kids tonight than we've ever had. I'll probably have to send about half of them on to Kieran and Fiona in Colorado because we aren't going to have room here for all of them. Gelding had bought a new, bigger warehouse, and the team took it out completely. So that's going to cost him thousands. That'll hurt him. Workers are making sure the kids get baths, clean clothes and then I'm sure they'll tuck into the waffles Michael's making. So, by almost every standard this organization has, it was a win win." He took a sip of the firewhiskey before he spoke again.

"There is a distinct possibility that I might have taken out Tom Gelding tonight, and normally, I'd be elated by that. However--there is also a very real possibility that I also inadvertently offed my mother-in-law--well, almost mother-in-law--in the process. I don't know that Ruby will be happy with me about that, whether Suzanne is actually gone or not, but i also don't think anyone should say one little syllable about that to Ruby right now. not for the next few days anyway. I've asked Michael to contact the intel agents to see if we can get any word about Tom and Suzanne, but you know we might not hear anything for days."

Jack listened to Angus and at first thought everything was good then he heard the second part but could not help cough to hide his smirk " awe .. not to speak ill of the dead but that would be such a shame, but I don't think Ruby would be heart broken over it though, besides from what Jess has told me Ralph will be here soon and she'll be keeping both of you occupied." he then thought abut it and hummed " true about the not hearing for a few days, but we'll make sure if theres any back lash it will be minamal."He paused " not that those two would be a great lose." he added watching Angus take a drink of the fire whiskey.

"so you nervouse about being a dad?" he asked Angus " not long now" he added" I know I was ..well realy nervouse when Jess had our first, closer it got the more she did, couldn't sit still for a second." He smiled thinking back to that day , the day he held his son for the first time. Taking a glass he pored a small amount of the fire whisky and smiled to him " heres to a new addition" he said glancing over at Angus. " oh and I agree the ew ranch will be perfect for the over flow of kids, but Gelding having a bigger wearhouse , that means hes getting desperate, which to me is a good thing, more mistakes."

"Being rid of Gelding would be a reason for all of the wizarding kids both here and at home to celebrate, that's for sure, but somehow he always escapes unscathed," Angus said. "Still, if it would have been Gelding alone, I'd have been going home with champagne in hand. I saw Gelding dashing off into some little narrow back alley and I followed him. He got into the back of a car, and I wasn't about to let him simply slip off again, so I fired a fireball at the car. The car blew up and in the flames inside the car I saw his two bodyguards had been in the front seat, and Gelding and a woman had been in the back. I was going to try to get them out but there was a huge big herd of muggles rushing in, so I had to get out while the getting was good. Hopefully the evening papers might tell us more."

He listened to Jack talk about how losing Gelding was not any great loss, and truth be told, losing Suzanne really wasn't a huge loss either. The only reason Angus really cared was because she was related to Ruby.

"You're right, you know. Under any other circumstance, I wouldn't give one iota about Suzanne. You're also right that Ralph will soon be taking center stage. I know how the Donohue women have been right before delivery and how Khaat was before Abbey was born, and by all I've seen in those women, I could go home today to find Ralph is already here. Every time I've seen a pregnant woman do that energy burst before birth, that woman has given birth in 24 hours, and she had that burst yesterday afternoon. So, if tradition holds true, Ralph is giving us fair warning.

"You'd think I'd be nervous, wouldn't you? But I'm honestly not. We've got four qualified healers at our place with Robert and Jess and Khaat and Brian, and a fully equipped sickbay if we need it. I know Ralph will pretty much be entirely my responsibility for the first week or two, but I've done it before. I've got enough stuff to take care of anything Ralph needs for about six months at least. I don't really have a lot of experience in taking care of postpartum moms, but I presume i can lean on Jess and Simone and Kate for a lot of that. If there is anything that has had me concerned at all, I guess I'm hoping that Ruby's scattered thinking starts to clear up some time after delivery. I really, really need some of her baby brain thing to start going away. I read somewhere that muggle women can hang onto it for years. Robert saw me reading an article about that in one of Ruby's baby magazines, and I heard him start to laugh at me. He took the magazine from me, saying he wanted to know what the heck had drained all the color from my face. So when he saw what the article was, he laughed his butt off and told me that was for muggle women. He said that wizarding women didn't have to hang onto that so long. And then he thanked me for giving him the biggest laugh of his day."
