Divinations Lesson: Group One Empty Divinations Lesson: Group One

Post by Mary Mist Sat Feb 08, 2014 2:15 am

Katrina-Carlotta had came to Mary, aware of her ability as a seer and requested she teach at Hogwarts. It had been a rather odd occasion, Mary had read in her tea leaves that morning a surprise would come her way but what surprise she'd had no clue. Initially she believed something dark, sinister, deadly. She'd cried about it. Afraid her life was to end, but thankfully it had been a job opportunity - she'd cried at that too.

If there is one thing people notice about Mary it's that she cried. Throughout her childhood the slightest thing made her cry, whether it be out of sadness, fear, anger, happiness or confusion. Mary cried. Even during her years at Hogwarts in the wonderfully friendly house of Hufflepuff Mary cried. Every detention (not that she got many), every time a house mate lost a point, every year Hufflepuff lost the house cup Mary Mist cried.

It wasn't that she was a sad girl, a dark soul, a moaning myrtle. Granted the Slytherins called her moaning Mary as a joke, but she wasn't sad. On the contrary Mary was a bright yellow, a bubble of joy. The seer enjoyed peaceful strolls, baking brownies, reading magazines of the perfect flower arrangement, singing as she walked down Diagon Alley. She was defiantly a yellow, a pastel yellow that could easily run in the rain.

After receiving the job opportunity Mary closed the fortune telling shop in Diagon Alley, packed her trunk and headed to Hogwarts. Already she'd been teaching a month and at some point in every lesson a tear dropped from her eyelid. Thankfully she'd managed to hide it, wipe it away with a back turned to the class. However it was no use, the last lesson Mary had collapsed into a state the Niagara Falls would have found difficult to compete with. Word had soon spread amongst the students that she was a dopey, lunatic, emotional timebomb of a professor. In spite of that she was good. Her lessons had been fun, which was something for Divinations, and had certainly provided the students with some humour at Mary's extent.

Today Mary had cried twice. The first had been a breakfast when an owl had knocked over a jug of pumpkin juice into her porridge. All the Professor had ate was a spoonful! Even though she simply replaced the bowl with a fresh one a few tears had splashed into her milky breakfast. The house elves had put so much effort into making the porridge, it had been made with love and care, dedication and hardworking then? An owl ruined it. Oh the poor owl, Mary expected it would probably have a head ache which was the last thing it would want in the owlery surrounded by squalling screech owls and booming barn owls.

The second time she'd cried had been in her previous lesson with a group of third years new to the subject. Their previous teacher before Mary had been hired as a replacement, hadn't taught them much. They'd missed most lessons and no substitute could have taught the topic that the previous instructor had planned. The third years seemed alienated to the subject of divination, which was clear when a Gryffindor had shouted 'whats the point looking to see my past if I already know it.' Divinations was anything but looking into the past.

After the third years had cleared their round wooden desks, clambered from the pouf's and left the classroom Mary yanked the curtains open and pushed hard against the windows, allowing the cool breeze to blow her tears away as she stared out at the beautiful grounds. Pure heroine. The way the leaves rustled in the forbidden forest. The way the blades of grass shuddered in the breeze by the lightly rippling lake.

Keep it together, Mary. She told herself, You can't fall to pieces again, Professor Du Hunt is counting on you.

It was true. Du Hunt had hired her for being known as a true seer, heck she'd made a career out of being a seer! She cried, sure, but that couldn't stop her. Mary had to stay strong in this next class for Du Hunt - who probably didn't care about the fact she cried a lot. Mary didn't see it like that, that thought didn't cross her head within the network motivation brainwaves the cool air provided her with.

She'd been so lost in thought that most of her students in the eleven o clock class were seated and chatting, she swore a pair of them (NPCs) were betting how long Mary would last before a tear leaked. No. Today she wouldn't be giving them the satisfaction. She'd simply think about daffodils, rainbows and ladybirds.

'Good morning.' She said, wiping the remaining cheers and showing off her large round eyes in a wide smile.

Divinations Lesson: Group One Empty Re: Divinations Lesson: Group One

Post by Anabelle Mulciber Sat Feb 08, 2014 7:20 pm

Divination was a class she had always liked, she'd always been rather good at the subject but she had always thought it was just something that she was good at. That it was just a special skill she had somehow, which was exactly what it was. Just not in the way she had expected it to be.

Hitame didn't know what she was until recently when she'd had a vision and she'd been told that she was a Seer. No wonder why she had always been good in the class. Although at first she refused to believe that that was the only reason why she was good at it. Especially since she did have some trouble in it, but that could also be because her ability isn't very strong yet or because she couldn't control it.

Either way, it made her a bit sad that she was good at it only because she was a Seer. But it also made her happy because she had an ability that was really interesting to her. The Gryffindor was always intrigued by Seers and visions and all those things. She always found them so amazing. Now that she knew she was one of them, the girl looked forward to Divination class more than ever.

Maybe the Divination professor could help her with her ability or something. She'd have to ask her after class or something. The sixteen year old walked into the classroom and glanced about to see if there was anyone she'd want to sit with, but no one really caught her attention. She took a seat by herself on the left side of the classroom and looked at the new professor. Why could Hogwaets never seem to keep professors for long she wondered. There was probably a good reason, maybe better job opportunities came up or something.

She shrugged and glanced at the girl who had sat beside her moments after se had seated herself. Hitame knew her, she was a Gryffindor and technically a friend too. "Hey, good morning." She said softly to the girl, who responded with a "Good morning," of her own. The professor greeted everyone and she greeted her back along with the girl who sat with her and others.

Divinations. Why had the Slytheirn chosen to study this stupid subject? It mean't nothing to him, it didn't help him accomplish anything in life and Cupid was starting to believe it was simply one big fat old wives tale. Nobody could predict the future surely? There were such things as seers but that was different. They were individuals, born with an ability, an ability that divinations couldn't teach.

Casually strolling into the room Cupid rolled his eyes at the professor before sitting by a table next to Hitame Higurashi's, a fellow fifth year. He hadn't really spoken to her much, being a Gryffindor, but he was aware of who she was and what she was. An addict, or so the rumors started by Romeo Zabini had said so. Cupid wasn't anti-drugs, he'd never do them, but seeing potentially talented people falter on them gave him hope he'd one day become celebrated. Drugs reduced the competition. They silenced great witches and wizards leaving Cupid with a greater chance of accomplishing his goals. That's all he cared about, fulfilling his dreams, becoming famous for his bold adventures. Truth be told he wasn't the most Harry-Potter-like of people, in fact far from it. Sure the Slytherin was bold but really no matter how much he tried to kid himself he would never be famous in the way Harry Potter was. He did have an alternative talent: singing. He loved to sing, however doubted his ability and singing in the wizarding world didn't get the same level of fame as say the boy who lived. If only divinations wasn't a pack of lies, perhaps then he could foresee his future, foresee the obstacles and plan ahead on how to swerve them and become famous. If only it was real.

Cupid didn't greet the Professor back, he merely continued to take out his books. She was an okay teacher he couldn't deny, out of all the divination professors he'd had she had to be in with a chance of topping them apart from one flaw. One annoying, eye-rolling, laughable flaw. Mary Mist cried. She'd cried in about eighty percent of their classes and for no reason to. Cupid grinned at a fellow house mate who shared his dorm as they sat besides him. They'd placed a bet on how soon it would be before Professor Mist cried. Cupid placed two galleons for a tear within the first fifteen minutes, his housemate hadn't been as generous expecting a tear within the first ten. They'd simply have to wait and see.

Divinations Lesson: Group One Empty Re: Divinations Lesson: Group One

Post by Mary Mist Sun Apr 06, 2014 7:28 pm

'This term we will be focusing on dream interpretations. I am sure that we all have dreams-'

Gosh her dream last night had been awful.

'-So it should be fun for you to find out what they mean exactly!'

Fun if they aren't nightmares or related to an omen.

Mary began to walk around the desks in an attempt to distract herself from the thoughts in her head. She didn't want to cry, not just yet. She couldn't she had to stay strong!

'Each of you should all have a dream dictionary in front of you or in your bags, if you don't I do have a few spares but-'

But what if there weren't enough spares? Would the class find her less competent? A crier and an unorganised worthless teacher?

'But hopefully you have your own.' Mary concluded, cutting herself off before walking towards the window and staring out of it momentarily. Watching the new shoots on trees and the blades of grass ripple in the wind was soothing, but she couldn't gaze out of the window for the entire lesson.

'How about I interpret someone's dream to give you a feel of the topic?' Mary suggested, turning her eyes back onto the vacant expressions, skeptical stares and rolling rude-eyes. 'Or perhaps you could divide into pairs, one of you says what you dreamed and the other uses the guide to interpret it?' Still no response.

'Yes, yes we'll do that. I'll be coming around the class to help you and if anybody has any questions just, just raise your hand.' Mary announced taking it upon herself to go with her instinct rather than waiting for the class to decide how they wanted to learn. That really was what was best, if she knew what they wanted she could make it happen, allow them to be more engaged but as of this moment she may as well have been talking to a sac of potatoes.

Divinations Lesson: Group One Empty Re: Divinations Lesson: Group One

Post by Katie Knight Tue Apr 08, 2014 3:12 am

(Idk what group I'm in, but doesn't matter right we need people to post!)

Katie was late, something she hated more then anything in the world. Despite that she really didn't like this class, Katie was never late for any of her classes.

Running down the corridors Katie pushed passed a group of third years knocking them to the floor. "Sorry! In a bit of a hurry late for class!"said Katie running. Finally reaching the class Katie slung the door open panting for air.

" Sorry I'm late Professor Mist, I hope I didn't miss anything. "said Katie finally catching her breath. Taking a seat across Cupid she gotten her book out. " Did I honestly miss anything besides her rambling?"Katie muttered to Cupid to where he could only hear her. " Why in the bloody hell dod I agree to take this class?"Katie asked herself. She knew why, she needed the credits.

Luckily Katie didn't miss that much she noticed, but Katie still didn't like being late. Katie was so mad at herself, but she lost track of time due to her doing homework in the common room. Brushing some hair out of her eyes Katie turned to dream interpreting. " Wow... how can be such a big chapter on dreams?"Katie mumbled to herself shifting giggles trying not to laugh. Her and Cupid always laughed through this class, they always thought it was funny.

Katie didn't know if Professor Mist was off her rocker or what, but alot of older students think she was. She was a great Professor, just a bit annoying when she cried in every class they had. " Let me guess, she just got done crying over something?"Katie asked Cupid softly. " By the looks of it she did. "said Katie sighing. " This is going to be a long class!"Katie thought to herself.

Post by Mary Mist Tue Apr 08, 2014 2:13 pm

A slight bable of tired students broke out as Mary returned to her desk and check the carriage clock that was sat on it. This was going to be a long lesson indeed if everybody continued to act like zombies from the South Americas.

The sound of the door alerted Mary, oh gosh one of them had left. Her lesson was that awful, that disengaging that... Oh. Katie Knight was late. Well, Mary supposed that was better than the Ravenclaw not turning up at all! Then again, if she really loved Mary's class wouldn't she have made it on time?

'T-that's okay dear.' Mary replied, a slight wobble in her voice at the idea Katie had been late on purpose. Hopefully she hadn't, hopefully it was all in Mary's head as everything else usually was.

'We're basically interrpretating each others dream,' Cupid told Katie, 'seeing if we can discover any hidden meanings in them. Really when you dream about a pineapple it means you're going to get stabbed in the heart by a good friend.' Cupid joked taking the mick out of the subject before falling into a fit of giggles.

A smile. A giggle. A laugh! Maybe this isn't such a flop after all.

If only Mary had heard the part where the Slytherin had ridiculed the subject and used it as the punchline to his joke. Oblivous to what the pair had been laughing at Mary glided across to Cupid and Katie's table.

'Did someone just interpretate a funny dream?' Mary asked keenly.

"No way! Really?"Katie asked him before going into a fit of giggles that she almost fell out of her seat.  Regaining her laughter some,  Katie looked at her book.  "If you dream dream of bunnies,  your in a mid life crisis? Boy my childhood was so rough cause that's all dreamed about!"said Katie giggling.  " Wow..., who comes up with this stuff?"Katie asked still giggling to herself.  " Any interesting dreams besides dreaming of a pineapple chasing you?"Katie asked him laughing.

Seeing Professor Mist heading towards their table Katie let out a small groan before she came up to them. " Oh yes Professor, Cupid here is..." said Katie pausing to read something in her book. "Is going to have good luck and a healthy life due to him dancing with a marshmallow snowwoman, he said I was even there!"said Katie.  " Wow Cupid you should have that dream more often if it brings you that!"said Katie.   " Ooh...my turn!"said Katie smiling.

" Maybe this class won't be boring after all!"Katie thought to herself smiling.  Of course the rest of the class they'll probably come up with funny made up dreams.  But this class was the entertainment of the day for them.  This was one of the few classes Katie had with Cupid,  all the rest were boring. The ones she had with them they played around in and made jokes.

'I don't know but whoever is must be making a fortune from the amount of rubbish they sell.' Cupid replied holding the book up and looking at it with a look of uncertainty and an eyebrow raised.

Just as Cupid was about talk about his dream Professor Mist had arrived at their table. If only she would go away so he and Katie could continue having fun procrastinating. You wouldn't think that the pair had OWL examinations in a few months time. Ahh only a few more months of divinations then he'd never have to do the silly subject again even if it was a bit of fun.

'And there was me thinking it was going to snow when I woke up.' Cupid replied, bouncing back from what Katie said. Mary on the otherhand didn't look too pleased. Maybe she had realised they were fooling around and not taking the lesson seriously or, from what she said, maybe not.

'Oh no, no. I don't think that will be in the book.' Mary told them with a concerned look on her face. The students were going to fail if they really believed a dream about a marshmallow snowmen mean't that! What if they did fail? Would she get fired? She'd already sold her store in Diagon Alley, surely Du Hunt wouldn't fire her, especially after persuading her to come in the first place?

Mary's bottom lip began to tremble.

Cupid gave a there's-a-surprise glance to Katie.

Mary raised a hand to her throat.

Cupid bit his bottom lip to stop him from laughing and put his head into Unfogging The Future.

'One moment please.' The seer said, a slight crack in her voice, before she hurried through a door in the corner of the classroom that led to her bedroom. How could she be letting this happen. How was it possible she was crying... AGAIN?!

After five minutes locked inside her bedroom, the tears streaking and a pillow across her mouth muffling her sobs Mary wiped her face dry and returned to the classroom where a few of the students gave stiffed laughs and looked away from her.

Seeing Hitame Higurashi, who Mary believed to be a seer, the divinations Professor decided to head over to her to help boost her confidence believing Hitame would show a little promise when it came to dream interpretation.

'How are you getting on?' She asked the Gryffindor.

(I decided to just merge Mary and Cupid's posts together rather than doing two separate ones)

Katie looked at the book with a confused look on her face. "Really? huh... I must be reading it wrong or something!"said Katie looking back at her book. Looking up from her book as she heard Professor Mist start to cry Katie looked at Cupid and bit her lip. Katie nodded. " Of course Professor. " said Katie smirking. " Wow...just wow..."Katie muttered to herself before turning to Cupid. " Oh dear I upset her again, was it something I said?"Katie asked him smirking.

Seeing her coming back Katie looked at her before turning back to Unfogging the future. "Hm... is there any dream interpreting for drowning in tears?"Katie asked Cupid looking through the book. "Cause I think Professor Mist is about to drown us and her in her tears."Katie muttered to Cupid. " This happened every class, and it was sometimes even without anyone saying anything to her. At first Katie felt bad for her, but over time it started to annoy her.

Although Katie wondered what in the world did she cry so much about? Katie even seen her in the Great Hall shedding a few tears at the staff table. She was sure she seen Professors glaring at her in annoyance as she did. " Hm... I wonder what's so bad that's she cries like all time?"Katie asked. " God I don't think I have enough tears to cry as much as she does!"Katie muttered to Cupid.

Looking through her book Katie looked at drowning. " It says here, people who dream of drowning are overwhelmed by emotions wow big surprise there!"Katie muttered to herself stiffing giggles.

" Ok... dream interpret me now, come on hit me with your best shot!"said Katie smirking at Cupid. " I'm sure having a dream about riding a rainbow unicorn means something!"said Katie trying not to laugh. " Do rainbow unicorns really exist?"Katie asked Cupid chuckling softly to herself.

Divinations Lesson: Group One Empty Re: Divinations Lesson: Group One

Post by Rosanna Parker Fri Apr 11, 2014 10:48 pm

'She's a bit of a drip isn't she.' Cupid muttered back watching Mary leave to the room through the door. At times he often wondered what had happened in her life, it must have been something bad to make her become such a leaky bucket. Either that or she was so used to crying it was the only think she knew how to do. That woman really needed to get a grip of herself.

Laughing at Katie's rather witty comment Cupid nudged her as Professor Mist reentered the room red eyed and distraught. 'I always wonder the same thing.' The Slytherin quietly replied so the seer didn't overhear, 'You think she'd be able to predict what was going to upset her and avoid it wouldn't you?'

Grinning at the Katie's dream he opened his own copy and began to scan the pages. The subject was stupid and it was great to have fun but he was kind of curious as to what nonsense a rainbow unicorn dream mean't, probably something weirdly untrue.

'Well, the rainbow is a symbol of promise and hope and-' flicking through the to the U section in the dream diary, 'The unicorn is the spiritual symbol of unreserved love. Well, that certainly is enlightening.' Cupid replied sarcastically closing the book. 'Tell me Katie, who is the mystery man? Who do you-'

Cupid paused. How could he have forgotten? Medusa had told him that day in the library, he'd been so bogged down with work it had completely escaped his mind. Should we bring it up? Question her? It seemed a good enough idea, Katie could hardly escape midway through lesson.

'You do have unreserved love.' The Slytherin's eyes widening in astonishment at how applicable Katie's dream actually was. 'And you have hope because the last time you and a certain Jeremy were together it didn't end well.' Now he was starting to get angry, not only angry at Katie but at himself for forgetting.

'Were you ever going to tell me?' He asked with a raised eyebrow.
