Forget This! Homework Sucks!

Alana carried a knapsack full of books on her back as she sulked into the study hall. She had a ton of homework to do though she didn’t want to do any of it. The professors where starting to get mad that she never really finished any of her homework. Some times she would do part of it but that didn’t make them any happier. She took one of the many heavy books out of her knapsack and placed it on the table beside her before putting the bag by her foot. Opening the book she sighed. “Forget this.” Alana mumbled after a few minutes and closed the book pushing it away from her.

Renny was sitting in the study room. She had finished all her homework- like the good pupil she was- and she was just doing some pleasure reading. She had pulled her hair up and stuck two chopsticks she had found in a muggle thrift store in it to keep it from falling out of place. Her big blue eyes scanned the book she was reading and she sighed.

Renny heard the noises of a disgruntled student and looked up to see an incredibly frustrated little girl slamming closed her book. Renny blinked and made her mind up. She scooped up her book and pulled on the strap of her bag. She walked over to the table and pulled out the chair next to the girl. "Having trouble?" She paused. "If you need help, I could help you out."

Alana looked up when another person spoke. Was she having trouble? “No, homework is just stupid,” Alana said. She looked at her book and put it back in her bag. She had come in to the study room thinking it would help her to do her home work, no distractions, but she still didn’t want to do it. It was boring and she always had problems doing her homework no matter how well she understood what she was suppose to do. “its boring,” she muttered. Doodling on a piece of parchment not looking up at the older girl. “I am sure your going to ask it’s, Alana,” she said not looking up form her horrible doodle.

Renny tilted her head when the girl said she did not need help, but that homework was just dumb. Renny smiled to herself and thought back to when she had been so hostile towards homework. Around her fourth year, she had learned to enjoy learning about magic. She knew it was sort of tricking your mind into believing it was fun, but there you go. Still worked.

At the girl's introduction, Renny laughed. "You're very clever. I've seen you at the Gryffindor table, but maybe you belong with the Ravenclaws." She giggled and continued, "I'm Renny. And homework can be really fun too. You learn some really interesting stuff. Especially- surprisingly- in history of magic."

“How can homework be fun?” Alana asked looking up at the older girl as if she had just said something completely and utterly ridiculous. Like she had said she had seen purple pigs flying through the dungeons. That would actually be funny. Alana smiled to her self, “some time I’m going to have to see purple flying pigs.” she said to her self. “Interesting? History of Magic?” maybe hits girl really was bonkers and needed to go to the loony bin. “You are crazy,” Alana said, “there is no way I would have ever gotten into Ravenclaw.” she pushed her hair out of her eyes trying to figure out where this girl’s brains were at. “I think you’ve lost your mind. Would you happen to know where its at?”

Renny cracked a grin, smiling at the girl's words, before eventually progressing to a full blow laugh, her kind eyes crinkling as her lips parted for her sweet laughter. "I'm not crazy, I swear!" she said, raising a hand, thumb inward as though pledging. She giggled and dropped her hand.

"Really though. Maybe it's because I'm muggleborn and I was never raised with this knowledge.. But we're so lucky we get to be apart of the magical world! We are a select few who get to learn it's secrets. It's like exploring really," she said earnestly. She grinned. "Does that make me sound like too much of a nerd?" She laughed.

“Yes, I think it dose..” Alana said thinking about it. She squinted her eyes to where they where almost closed pursed her lips as she thought. “Maybe it doesn’t, I don’t know,” She said after a minute or to and shrugged, “I know nothing. Besides that my daddy says I don’t do my work because I procrastinate,” she pronounced the word wrong having never heard of it but read it in her fathers letters. In many ways she was still like a small child where as most children her age would have matured a little more than she had. She would most likely never stop calling her father, Daddy, and she doubted that she’d ever learn how to pronounce procrastinate correctly, let alone graduate for Hogwarts.

Renny giggled again as the girl tried to decide if Renny was nerdy sounding or not, finding the little girl's innocence charming and rather refreshing. Renny was innocent herself and she did not know many others who were- though most of her friends pretended to be for her sake.

"Well," she said, in her kind voice, "We all procrastinate now and then. It's hard not to at Hogwarts, there's so much to do and see, and there are so many nice people to meet, and so many activities and chaos.." She grinned, thinking fondly of her seven years at the school. "Yes, it's rather nice. You just have to give yourself an incentive. Like 'after I finish my Charms homework, I can go outside and play by the lake for an hour. It's all about training your mind."

“Homework is still stupid, and hard,” Alana said scribbling out her doodle, “I’d rather watch quidditch! Quidditch looks like so much fun,” she held out the word so for almost a minute as if to stress how much fun it looked. “I want to play quidditch!” her eyes glazed over as she thought about actually playing in a game of quidditch like her brother and some other family members. “Do you play quidditch? What position? Is it fun?” Alana asked perking up a little at the thought of her favorite sport. “Quidditch, quidditch, quidditch,” she sang happily swaying back and forth in her seat.

Renny smiled and then the girl began to go off on a crazy tangent, asking each question before Renny had the time to even answer. She laughed and said, "Slow down, dear, I can't answer a question if you're already on the next one." Renny smiled. "I don't play Quidditch. I have some friends who do, but I don't play. I'm not in to contact sports. It's rather rough."

She paused. "They discuss the history of broom and snitch making in your history books, as well as the development of the sport of Quidditch." She smiled. "You could do an assignment, then go outside and fly for an hour, before working on the next one, and then you get another hour of flying." She shrugged. "Sounds like it could help."
