Battle of Hogwarts Anniversary Gala

on Wed May 03, 2017 2:09 am
Okay, so perhaps the name was a little too up beat for the topic. But calling it a Memorial had the potential to remove the right of attendees to catch up, have any laughs over lost comrades, and so on. At least in their minds. Hermione, acknowledging this, couldn't be as upset as she wanted to. Thirty-two years since the battle, people still recognized the importance of that day. It hadn't been the end, exactly, but it was certainly a step in the right direction.

That is, aside from Harry disappearing twenty years back. Twenty and a half, to be exact.

Merlin's sake.

Hermione sighed under her breath, unimpressed with the fancy gowns and suits that the people around her wore. Ron, of course, was no better off - though he was undoubtedly a little curious about who they'd run into and the sorts of speeches and food that would fill the room. Hogwarts graduates and even a number from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang were in attendance, and Hermione hoped they would all understand the real purpose of the vent.

As part of her duties at the Ministry, Hermione had ensured that tickets were sold - reasonably, of course - and that the funds from those sales would go directly to the safety of magical transportation and the students of Hogwarts. After the Ilvermorny catastrophe, her department had gone through almost literal hell and parents were still in a fuss. What in the world would happen come the end of term? Hopefully nothing at all.

As if he'd heard her thinking about it, the Headmaster of Hogwarts strode through the door to the ballroom, looking about for someone he knew, presumably. If nothing else, perhaps she could talk to him about plans for the end of the school year.

Michael had always felt conflicted about these memorials. He looked forward to catching up with old friends, which made him feel guilty. He ought to be stoically sombre.

Then there was the way he never felt entirely welcome. The healer side of him said that was all in his head. Everyone felt like that sometimes. The realist part of him said it was because he wasn't entirely welcome. The only reason nobody said anything was because he'd been there, and for Terry's sake. Mostly for Terry.

He wondered, in morbid moments, what they thought of him and Terry. It wasn't just the homophobia. Although he wondered about that too, it wasn't what he cared about. He mostly wondered whether they thought he wasn't good enough for Terry.

He handed his ticket to the kid on the door and waited for Terry to do the same.

"Wine," he said. "What we need now is wine."

As Terry handed his coat to the cloakroom attendants, he doubted anyone at this gathering didn't feel conflicted about the whole thing. Meeting up with old friends, while remembering old friends who'd died? Awkward.

Not to mention that enough time had passed now that they no longer mindlessly followed the rhetoric of the "light". And, while Michael had always enjoyed being cruelly misunderstood, Terry was more pragmatic. He knew there were others who held similar sentiments, if not the same opinions as they did.

No, Terry's problem wasn't with people approving of him, or of Michael. That he might run into Lisa was barely a conscious thought. He was mainly aware of how this event was going to bring back old memories. While most of their friends remembered Michael as the hero who saved a first year (regardless of how Michael remembered it), they remembered Terry as a glassy eyed, barely functioning, potions addict.

It must be some kind of irony when Death Eater decide to come at an event like this one.
But Beatris decided this will be something good. She is an Auror after all.
Her Daddy would probably be proud if he sees her now, trying to act like the good person. That was funny, considering how bad person she actually was.

The problem was the dress.
They had that boring dress code and she didn't have any dress that would hide her Dark Mark so she needed to go to shopping to find the elegant black dress with long sleeves.

She came to that, the party of whatever she was and started looking if there was anyone familiar.
To be honest, she didn't see the purpose of this evening, that bBattle was the best thing that happened to the magical world, but most of the people don't share her opinion, though.
