They were the last people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense

Character's Legal Name: Matthew Gregory Lestrange

   Age: 32

   Hogwarts House: Former Slytherin

   Blood Type: Halfblood

   Species: Human

   Face claim: David Tennant

...Aunt Petunia often said that Dudley looked like a baby angel - Harry often said that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig

Matthew Lestrange takes after his mother whom nobody knows much of. He is a tall and lanky individual, with hair that can take up many different forms. Although it may take magic to keep the hair under control it is usually for a valid reason. Normally sporting a front poof to make himself appear even taller than he already is at a solid 6'; he sometimes makes the odd change to the style here and there. His face is slim and is clean shaven during the summer months but sports a beard during the other months of the year. Not that it takes forever to grow said beard but because a beard in the summer would be hot and uncomfortable; and Matt is all about the comfort.

Matt cares about his physical appearance but not to the point where he goes out of his way to buy designer clothing or get his hair done by a professional hairdresser. Yes, he goes to a muggle hairdresser but it is a hairdresser who has been doing his hair for 13 years and knows how to get that sh*t done. To describe Matthew's sense of style one might say it ranges from business-casual to simply casual. He doesn't stress a whole lot about clothes but usually aims for comfortable and practical. Something that isn't going to restrain him if he needs to start fighting someone, so NO skinny jeans.

......If only the hat had mentioned a house for people who felt a bit queasy, that would have been the one for him

Nitwick, oddment, blubber, and tweak are just a few words you could use to describe Matthew Lestrange. You'd be using them incorrectly and they'd have nothing to do with Matt's personality BUT you could use them. Some more accurate words might be hot headed, empathetic, blunt, and fearless. But that just scratches the surface when it comes to him, Matt has had an interesting history that has formed him to become the man that he is today.

Matthew is often the first person to volunteer for an otherwise dangerous task. He loves the rush that being in danger gives him as well as the notion that he is doing something to help better the world. However, Matt is just as skeptical of big government and organizations as he is no stranger to corruption. Matt believes that the best way to deal with corruption or to find out information yourself is to go to the heart. This is how he tells himself it is okay to go on these big missions where he may need to kill or do otherwise dastardly things; which he has very little quarrel about. To say that Matthew Lestrange is neutral when it comes to the wizarding world is a bit of a stretch but it is where he would someday like to claim to be.

Despite this distrust of big organizations and government, Matt is still surprisingly friendly. When it comes to strangers Matt may not treat them like a best friend but he won't shun them away. But Matt can do a complete character change when it comes to people he knows are a threat or corrupt. More often than not Matt constantly has his wand in his hand in his pocket just in case he needs quick action. He has been caught without it too many times that it might as well be connected to him now. When it comes to friends though Matthew is definitely a loyal companion; offering up his couch many times to many different people. Always available to talk Matt would die for his friends and gladly be happy to his final breath.

Otherwise Matt is full of quips and comments but is aware of when they're appropriate and when they are not. He can easily take on a leadership role if need be and believes people take themselves too seriously. Often choosing to engage an enemy in a battle of wits before actually resorting to fighting. But when fighting starts he finds that continuing to talk to or taunt the enemy calms his nerves and even allows him to perform better during the fight.

Above all else, however, is Matthew Lestrange's love for children. He is empathetic to all, but none more so than the future of the world. Losing his own children early in his adult life he finds that it has only increased his appreciation for children and even, to a degree, teenagers. He find himself gravitating towards volunteering at events to ensure the care of homeless teens or small children.

..................Hey! My eyes aren't 'glistening with the ghosts of my past'!

   Early Years:
Matthew's pre-Hogwarts years are very much a blur of happy memories involving his mother and growing up as a muggle. As far as his father, Rodolphus, was concerned he didn't exist and as far as Matt was concerned his father was a sailor who left his mother. He believed this for eleven years where his mother raised him to be a caring and friendly person. However, a part of Matt always held on the anger he had towards the father figure he didn't have in his life. Otherwise Matt went to a muggle school and made muggle friends. He did muggle things like browse the internet and play videogames. His mother worked as an investment banker all throughout his childhood which was rather boring as far as he was concerned. To him, life was boring, and he always wanted more out of life. His mother pushed for him to follow in her footsteps but he didn't. He wanted to move to America and become a member of the FBI and solve crimes and help people. But everything changed when his father attacked (yes I just did that).

Apparently his father did, in fact, care about his existence. He'd heard it a thousand times "Lestrange's were meant for greatness". But the day after he had gotten his acceptance letter from Hogwarts his father paid him a visit. That was also the last day he would ever see his mother; the news said they had both died in a house fire but Matt new that's not how the situation went down. He would later find out his mother had died before the fire would have a chance to claim her life. But for years Matt believed that he had accidentally set the curtains on fire when his father provoked him which directly resulted in the death of his mother. After that his father took him away and 'raised' him during his school years.

   Hogwarts Years:
Matt's Hogwarts years were some of the most interesting for him. His early upbringing directly clashed with the way his father wanted him to live his life. He had no idea what possessed the hat to sort him into Slytherin but it did and he was met with surprisingly open arms. Before his days with his father he didn't have the foggiest idea about how powerful his lat name could be in certain situations. He made friends quick, and by friends I mean people who were either scared of his potential or wanted to gain power from his name. At first Matt didn't care but eventually people began to realize he didn't have the Lestrange backbone. It was only a few months before people who were saying hi to him in the common room or 'helping' with his homework by essentially doing it for him stopped doing those things and started targeting him. Matt got extremely good at dodging conflict by taking hidden passageways and sneaking throughout the common room. Generally staying to his dormitory with the curtains closed around his bed to do homework or what have you.

Summers were an even worse time for Matt as his father groomed him for life as a follower of evil. First his father had to find a way to cleanse him of the teachings of his mother. He didn't beat Matt, he didn't yell at Matt, but he made Matt do horrible things. Things that would continuously push the boundaries of comfort for Matt without directly breaking them. Matt would be forced to steal something from someone; at first these people were bad themselves. As the summers progressed these things that started out as stealing from other bad people or starting a fight with another teenager who just stole a purse led to starting fires. His father would routinely take him out to BE the teenager who stole the purse and then beat the younger one who was being groomed themselves. It was the school year following a particularly rough summer where Matt finally broke, however. But it was no thanks to his father, throughout his five years before the break and the years after; he continued to detest the man who he had learned killed his mother.

Matt's life at Hogwarts had been plagued by a particular individual who would routinely seek Matt out. Now, Matt was generally good at avoiding confrontation and he knew how to dodge a punch or shield himself from a jinx. This particular March afternoon, Matt was doing homework outside in one of the courtyards and the now seventh year was throwing rocks at Matt. Not enough to cause any real harm but enough to be annoying. In one swift wand movement from Matt and an under the breath spell, the boy was unconscious on the ground with a melon sized rock stained red next to him. It didn't kill him, but it taught him never to mess with Matt anymore. And thanks to some intervention on behalf of his father his punishment was detention for the remainder of the school year. But things changed after that day; people learned not to mess with him anymore. Although he remained relatively friendless, those who had been bullied by the particular guy started saying hello to him and sitting with him in the Great Hall. Matt, however, enjoyed the alone time more than anything and continued to keep his distance from most other people.

As far as academics were concerned Matt was an average student. Only really excelling in potions and defensive magic and suffering hard in charms and broom riding; things he never considered 'practical'.

   After Hogwarts:
(I'm going to summarize as much of Matt's character history was possible. Some may be missing and some may seem longer than others but bare with me.)

After Hogwarts it was immediate initiation into the Death Eaters which would leave him with a 'mark' that would stick with him for years. A constant reminder of what he had done and what he never wishes to do again. This mark would later prove to be quite useful in certain situations. He spent several years performing menial tasks for the organization and fighting on their behalf. All he knew was the rush of fighting made him feel good but he wasn't gaining rank. Not even his name or his father could help him in his goal to rank high in the Death Eaters. Eventually his father confronted him; calling him an sad excuse for a Death Eater and an embarrassment to the Lestrange name. So, Matt left.

Not long after the extremely uncomfortable situation wherein Matt began to go on the run from the Death Eaters at fear of his life. There was a just as unfortunate and uncomfortable accident which proved to be quite helpful to the present predicament. The accident left him physically scarred and bed ridden for months at St. Mungos; this is where he discovered his first love. After months of face changing charms and flirting Matt and his love had their first date and a year later they were married with twins on the way. It was at this point where Matt realized that if he was going to keep his family safe he needed to make some changes in his life. At this point he began the new chapter in his life and started to work for the Order. With the help of Jess Potter and getting past the initial apprehensiveness of the other Order members Matt would go on to perform great things for the Order of the Phoenix.

It was not long after Matt began his activities for the Order that other people began to take note of this individual. Those who had previously worked with Matt found themselves intrigued at the style of fighting this unnamed man used. Inevitably, for dramatic flair of course, the Death Eaters discovered Matt's secret life. It was not long after this discovering that his wife and children suddenly disappeared from Matt's life. Matt entered a bit of a drunken stupor after that; not really leaving the house much other than to restock his liquor cabinet. Thanks to  friends, Jack Dyllan and Nemo Omara, Matt's stupor ended and began his hunt for his loved ones. After months of searching he had been tipped off by an old flame from when he was younger that they were being held in a facility in Scotland. When he arrived he discovered a trap had been set for him which would result in the death of his wife. Apparently the group of Death Eaters determined that if they killed his wife and took his children it would be punishment enough. They didn't really expect Matt to bounce back from a loss so great; and it did break him. For a very long time Matt simply wasn't the man he was before.

Again, he owes much to his long time friend Nemo Omara, who would be the fine gentleman to break him out of his funk. It took many nights of drunken rambling and a few clothes calls with death but eventually Matt snapped out of it. It might have taken a year but Matt was back to being himself. Good timing to because it was up to him and Jack Dyllan to babysit their mutual friend, Nemo, as he began a funk of his own. The last thing he remembers of Nemo was a particularly rough evening spent pulling glass out of his friends foot.

I say this is the last thing he remembers because Matt has been pretty busy over the past few years. Events have transpired that have been extremely rough on Matt's mind and act as a reminder why he turned his life around. They have left him ever so slightly numb to the views of right and wrong - not to say that Matt's new leaf has been turned again. It just may take some time for him to bounce back and be his old self. Hopefully, with the help of some friends and lots of alcohol Matt can recover quickly.
