Room For Rent [[OPEN]]

Post by Sloane Ahmadi-Berkowitz on Tue Dec 27, 2016 10:51 pm

A tiny ad in neat print in the want ads section of the Daily Prophet reads:

Seeking: Room for Rent
American visiting the UK for an indefinite amount of time. Looking to rent a cheap room. Can give three days †notice of plan to move. Hoping to stay no longer than 1 week but cannot be certain of timeline. Please owl Sloane at Room 4 at the Leaky Cauldron.

On a slightly crumpled piece of parchment, in neat but cramped handwriting very much like his father's, is the following reply:

In possession of: a spare room available for rent.

Slightly ungainly Briton, guilty of having lived in London for what is now an indefinite amount of time owing to the fact that I have long forgotten when I moved here for good.

Good afternoon, Sloane. I hope this letter finds you well and, indeed, still in need of accommodation.

I have just recently cleared my spare bedroom of half a lifetime's worth of clutter. More Quidditch paraphernalia went to landfill than I am willing to admit to having owned. My father was a Cannon's fan. I can't say I'm entirely convinced by them but I do did own half of their gift shop.

I digress but what this does mean is that I do have the roof and upholstery you'll be in need of for the duration of your stay. For no extra cost, I am also not averse to cooking breakfast and any other meals should we find ourselves together at those allotted times. Some different company at dinner would hardly go amiss! I do share my home with my dog, Archie. I hope that is not a problem for you. He's quite an inoffensive chap.

I digress again, I think! Anyway, I live in Belgravia. Not too far from the Cauldron, you'll see! Just a short ride on the Tube and a brisk walk. I would be happy to meet you at Knightsbridge Station should you wish to take up my offer. †

I hope you're enjoying your visit to this little rainy isle so far and regardless of whether we meet or not, I hope you go on to have happy and safe travels.

I await your owl with interest.

Yours sincerely,
J.S. Potter

P.S. I apologise if Minerva gives you a bit of a nip. She's a feisty old bird.

Hello, Mr Potter.

Thank you for your reply. I am still in need of a room and could certainly do for some home cooked meals. The location, from my still limited knowledge of this crazy town, seems lovely, and I don't mind dogs at all.

I warn you, because of my strange situation, I may only need the room for three days, or maybe something along the lines of a month. I can't be certain. If you don't mind an unpredictable vacation notice, I'd be interested to check out the room whenever you're available.

Looking forward to meeting you,
Sloane

P.S. She gave me a nibble, but I think she just couldn't place my accent. Clever bird. But maybe racist.

(I'm kidding.)

Good afternoon, Ms Sloane!

I hope Minerva isn't too churlish this time. I speak to her about how we should treat ladies but I feel she may be a bit too long in the tooth beak for that sort of talking to. I gave her some treats before I sent her, anyway ... which is quite possibly why this might be a bit late. In any case, that will (hopefully!) make her a little bit more amenable to, pardon me for saying so, a stranger.

Well, whether it is three days, a month, or something in between or longer still, I would be happy to house you! So long as you wave as you go out, I'll be content!

I have finally acquired some much needed time off from work so I would be glad to meet you on Tuesday, if you would like. Does midday suit you? I've looked it up -- I fear it's a trip on the Northern and Piccadilly lines. I didn't realise it was such a troublesome journey! I will have some lunch ready for you!

Yours sincerely,
James

P.S. Are you particularly partial (or, indeed, not partial) to anything in sandwiches or shall I just do an array?

Mr Potter,

She was much more friendly this time. Thank you for the help in that. I'm not horribly familiar with animals, never really did the whole pets thing, but I'm not opposed to them, or an anti-animal person or whatever. It's not a problem, is all I mean.

Thank you so much - it's a relief to hear that you don't mind the uncertainty. Finding housing with such vague terms has been difficult, as you can imagine.

Tuesday works well. I'll be there right around noon.

-Sloane

P.S. Any old sandwich will do. I'm not hard to please.

((I can start a thread of her popping by his place! Thread!))
