What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. MAIN
They were the last people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense

Character's Legal Name:  Senona (origin: brazil, spanish) Eufemia (meaning: well-spoken)
Brânduşa (meaning: "spring crocus") pronunciation: BRAN-dusa

   Age: Twenty

   Wizarding Education: Castelobruxo

"Castelobruxo, the Brazilian school for magic, which takes students from all over South America, may be found hidden deep within the rainforest. The fabulous castle appears to be a ruin to the few Muggle eyes that have ever fallen upon it (a trick shared by Hogwarts; opinion is divided on who got the idea from whom). Castelobruxo is an imposing square edifice of golden rock, often compared to a temple. Both building and grounds are protected by the Caipora, small and furry spirit-beings who are extraordinarily mischievous and tricky, and who emerge under cover of night to watch over the students and the creatures who live in the forest. Former Castelobruxo Headmistress Benedita Dourado was once heard to laugh heartily, on an exchange visit to Hogwarts, when Headmaster Armando Dippet complained of Peeves the poltergeist. Her offer to send him some Caipora for the Forbidden Forest 'to show you what trouble really is' was not accepted.

Castelobruxo students wear bright green robes and are especially advanced in both Herbology and Magizoology; the school offers very popular exchange programmes for European students* who wish to study the magical flora and fauna of South America. Castelobruxo has produced a number of famous ex-students, including one of the world's most famous potioneers, Libatius Borage (author of, among other works, Advanced Potion-Making, Asiatic Anti-Venoms and Have Yourself a Fiesta in a Bottle!), and João Coelho, Captain of the world-renowned Quidditch team the Tarapoto Tree- Skimmers." — (source) J.K.    Blood Type: Halfblood

   Species: Human

APPEARANCE
...Aunt Petunia often said that Dudley looked like a baby angel - Harry often said that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig

Her smile is warm, and her eyes are on fire.
Senona has a petite, symmetrical button nose, paired with the very-contrasting, soft, full lips that those familiar with her face have come to recognize her by, as a very distinctive feature in her image. Her face is rather soft in general, save her full, perfectly plucked eyebrows - painted brutally dark to match the lionesses mane. For her cheekbones, quite high, Senona could thank her mother's genes. She has never broken any bones, however she does have several large scars; the smallest of the three more prominent, running across her right palm from where she had an accident with a sword during her courses, the second most noticeable, and second largest, a thin, narrow thing stretched across her back (the ghost of a haunting memory - an accident that has stretched, and grown with her aging body since the childhood injury, and the last, another kiss from a knife (sword), a large gouge from her arm, running parallel to her Ulna.

Senona possesses the style sense of an over-privileged (at least financially -
she was still born a woman) and a sophisticated woman, very familiar with the outline of her curving form. Only during her hobbies - such as swordplay, martial arts training, fencing, etc could the young adult witch be found in any attire that would appear even so much as remotely
resembling something comfortable. And, having been born and raised in to the cultural habits of Muggle Folk, both in public and in private, Senona's wardrobe was
entirely "too familiar" (in the eyes of the Pure Blood heritage on her father's side) with Muggle attire - if not almost entirely made up of such designs - save the few robes the young Halfblooded witch had been required to wear during her stay at Castelobruxo.

PERSONALITY
......If only the hat had mentioned a house for people who felt a bit queasy, that would have been the one for him

Don’t speak. Those who listen speak louder words. Keep quiet, keep calm. These are the words that make up Senona's personal mantra - always the well poised one, the quiet one; only ever speaking when she has listened careful, and just as carefully, composed her masterfully worded reply. This had always been Senona's way; a quiet, mysterious presence, ever drawing the suspicions of her louder peers, and her boisterous business owning , salesman of a father. Not many saw the flash of fire that lurked around the corner if stirred, which would summon a savage animal creeping beneath the poised image that Senona had always casually maintained. Senona perfected to maintain an air of pose and mystery - right up until the moment that it became a chore, or a burden; little effort was made on her part to maintain this public image, despite deceiving appearances. She would willingly snap in a second if provoked, if only just to scare her subjects.

Senona is a very literal girl. She can understand subtlety to a point, but sometimes it is very much lost on her. That isn’t to say that she isn’t intelligent though. She just tends to be smart in other ways. Family is incredibly important to Senona (Sousa's role in Senona's life is a critical one) Senona is a very passionate person, like her mother.

Senona tends to defend her siblings and friends even if they don’t always deserve her coming to their defense. She is stubborn and can be incredibly obstinate. She tries to remember this at times, but it’s difficult. She likes to see herself as a hero and an adventurer. She is reactionary, reacting to those around her. She will try to do what she feels is right and true - though, unbeknownst to her, she has an
extremely skewed sense of what is "right", or moral compass.

To describe Senona in a handful of adjectives, one would call her:
Independent, Hardworking, Flirtatious, Confident, Brave, Intelligent, Blunt, Sarcastic, Impulsive, Mischievous, Smart-Alec, and Stubborn And you will have known her.

HISTORY
.....Hey! My eyes aren't 'glistening with the ghosts of my past'!

Early Years:
Once the twins were born, some things changed. At first, it was just small changes. The twins were loud as all babies are and demanded much more attention. Ştefan and Cirilla Amor-Brânduşa leaned more heavily upon each other during this time. They still shared their own room together at this point in their marriage / companionship (before the day when Cirilla Amor drifted gracefully, and without a word, to the opposite end of their shared manor and their shared quarters - the room where they had once slept together, wrapped rightly in one another, or the large dining room table at which they had shared so many conversations over candle-lit dinners. During these early years, they were all began to settle into a rhythm, as a rather tight-night family.

Senona had a happy early life. Her life consisted of playing with Sousa and their father's right hand and dear family friend,
Geralt and his betrothed, the kind but fiery Triss - who helped take care of the twins alongside both their mother and father. It was a happy time for Sousa and Senona, filled with wooden swords and shields and cooking and art lessons (in which everyone ended up wearing paint or food, depending on the lesson). She knew no troubles, or corruption, or injustice. Together, the sisters shared a rather ordinary (save their abnormal wealth, or social and financial status) and joyful childhood. These memories would paint both Sousa and Senona's minds with vibrant, warming colors during future times of darkness - and for the rest of their lives, during any struggle or conflicts.

Born to Ştefan and Cirilla Amor-Brânduşa in the spring of ____, Sousa and Senona, fraternal twins, fit cozily into the role of the spoiled "only children" of a pair of overprotective, but well-meaning parents. It had taken many years for the pair to conceive a child, let alone child
ren, and as is typical of eager, new parents, they spent all of their time and energy on the twins, and showered the girls with praise without end. However, with such excitement came high expectations.

It was Ştefan and Cirilla Amor-Brânduşa''s fondest wish to see their daughters blossom into a proper,
respectable Christian ladies – beautiful, outgoing, and someone who engaged in traditionally feminine past-times. It was to their disappointment that their daughter Senona turned out to be quite the opposite of their ideal. Much to their frustration, Senona, or “Nona", was bold, aggressive, and preferred to be outdoors in the soil, or swinging around a heavy sword, rather than assuming her gender's appropriated "role". They had begun to grow frustrated with how their daughter was turning out to be.

At a family meal, Ştefanand Cirilla Amor-Brânduşa expressed their frustration at Nona’s current state and advised her to, as Senona thought at the time: “Be someone else other than herself.” It was from this point on that the young girl began to take up the habit of
"putting on a show, and hiding her true passions and practices from public view; thus, she begun creating a stoic, feminine, poised identity behind which she would hide when expectation reared its ugly head in her direction. This persona gifted Ştefan and Cirlla Amor-Brânduşawith what they had always wanted; a proper Christian witch. Funny Senona had always thought. And her parents had begun to grow quite fond of this new side of their daughter - when two tawny owls delivered a pair of letters to their doorstep in Brazil.

   Castelobruxo Years:
Furthering their attempts to "raise their daughters right", Ştefan and Cirilla Amor-Brânduşa packed up and shipped out (with several trunkloads of a small fortune of designer clothing, the best books, trinkets, fine jewelry, and other bribery, of course - the twins were utterly spoiled) their darling eleven year old twin daughters to North America's most prestigious school of Witchcraft, Castelobruxo. It was no surprise for a person of Senona's temperament to resist and refuse the idea of an institution where she would be forced to assume her more... polite persona, as well as spending her free time doing anything other than her passion, honing her skill set. It was only the mention of the knowledge and formal training that she would obtain in Alchemy, Potions, Flying, and other such courses in her attendance there that swayed her mind. Little did the young witch, Senona know that in her years at Castelobruxo, she would not only continue to hone her knack for swinging a sword, martial arts, and in the child's eyes, becoming a proper warrior - not a proper girl, but adopt an entirely new set of skills as well. At Castelobruxo, she would proceed to become the best Potionieer, Alchemist, Herbologist, Magizoologist and Quidditch Beater she could be.

During her time at Castelobruxo, Nona continued to flaunt her alter-ego, or persona, and instantly earned fame to the point of
infamy for her mystery (as well as her body, and her quote Muggle Money). Thus,in her tiring of performing, her appearances in public became rarer, and apart from classes, one could only find her cooped up in her dorm room or, by spying on her while she felt she was truly alone, outdoors in many of the hidden, forbidden regions of the castle grounds, heaving around a sword at magic cadavers.

   After Castelobruxo:
Alignment - Lawful Evil

"The ordered sort of Evil, that often ends up in charge. Can be a lot like Lawful Neutral, but nastier. Well-structured, large-scale and often scarily successful evil. May believe in keeping order at all costs, or may simply believe that a well-ordered system is so much easier to exploit. Whether an Obstructive Bureaucrat is Lawful Evil or Lawful Neutral is basically a function of whether he enjoys what he's doing. If God Is Evil, he's almost always Lawful Evil. These personality types tend to develop a "Code of Honor" to guide their actions, and can in fact be dependable allies in an  situation where other alignments might fizzle out. In circumstances where you are not a threat to their intentions, Lawful Evil might well be the "lesser of the three evils", but on the other hand, it's the one most likely to win and the one that most frequently causes suffering on a grand scale — mostly since they plan to construct their very own empire that you'd better fall in line with. A mercenary who always keeps his contract (good or evil), but enjoys a job where he gets to hurt people, is Lawful Evil and more likely to end up working for the bad guys. Lawful evil creatures consider their alignment to be the best because it combines honor with a dedicated self-interest, but it is also the most dangerous alignment because it represents methodical, intentional, and frequently successful evil."

Senona's 7th Year had been a bit of a busy blur in the midst of her education coming to a close. When everything was done and dusted, she would leave the place she had called home for so long. She would leave behind the people that had crept close enough to Senona to see her true person (heart), to see past the poised, mysterious and proper facade and had accepted her, that didn't care if she was a cold, calculating brute of an intellectual warrior. Deep down she cared for people despite her saying otherwise. And twas not only these particular individuals, or the few teachers that she had grown so very fond of during her efforts to learn everything that she had the capacity to learn from them; to kiss their asses; to be their one and only prodigy (not to say that she truly had been - but they had seen her ambition, and her
envy, and had humored her by withholding any information about any other privately tutored pupils that they may very well have taken on during Senona's years at Castlebruxo) - perhaps a little too fond of*. For Senona had truly found a special, honest kind of home for her heart in the "ruins" of Castlebruxo, and she would truly miss the school the most.

*The young witch may have, according to many whispers among the younger students in the years below, seduced one of her
dear tutors
, one of the Castlebruxo Professors who had taken her on as their prodigy, and had tutored her [/i]privately - "That is awful!" Sousa had shrieked, truly taken aback, when a first year European exchange student had confronted the twins directly, and made a point to make such insinuations in Senona's presence. Sousa's wide eyes evaluated Senona's face carefully - now smirking confidently, almost proudly - for any hint of truth, looking almost frightened by these rumors about her twin sister, "Nonathatsfreakinggross!" Sousa shrieked, words stumbling as a slender, familiar elbow found its way to Senona's ribcage, to which the young had witch responded only with quiet laughter. Evidently, word of this affair was carried with the prying First Year girl who had had the courage to confront Senona, back home to Hogwarts - yet another cog in the extravagant works of gossip surrounding Senona's infamy, and of course, her rumored adventurous sexual escapades.

Both Sousa and Senona spent the next two years after her graduation (which, as you may have guessed, was a gigantic celebratory affair where her parents and "followers" of their family were concerned) adventuring in solitude, training, learning -
adventuring and exploring. She learned about different techniques, subjects and ingredients everywhere from Russia to Spain. Together, the sisters had lived in Romania and Bulgaria. Sweden and Iceland. Belgium and Italy All the while in their trek across the North, Senoan only improved upon the young woman who had arrived, eleven years old at Castlebruxo, with incredible ambition and drive, and had made quite the name for herself in the Northern Realms - and while she could not be a prouder Brânduşa heir, she knew her ambition, bravery, and honor were bigger than Ştefan Brânduşa's infamous empire of business and crime, with "trophy wife" Cirilla Amor-Brânduşa found forever at his side (like a loyal dog, the thought had crossed Senona's mind). She wanted to be in history as one of the greats. She wanted to be a name remembered alongside Severus Snape and founder of The Most Extraordinary Society of Potioneers, Hector Dagworth-Granger. She wouldn't get that if she fulfilled her families desire to come home and be their perfect little prodigy to show off but utilize. She would never be what she needed to be with them, nor would she ever truly be allowed to pursue her passion in the more combat-oriented are of her skill set. She wanted the ministry to want her. She wanted to the world to look to her and know her power. She wanted to be a 'perfect, poisonous warrior'.

Her plans were set. She just needed to execute them - & the world, Wizarding & Muggle alike, had best watch out, because Sousa and Senona Brânduşa were utterly brutal young women.

Other People

Biological Mother: Cirlla Eulália de Mérida Amor-Brânduşa, Brazilian Decent, Halfblood, Diagon Alley Store Owner

Named from Eulália de Mérida a young Roman Christian martyred in Emerita, the capital of Lusitania, whose story had crept across Cirilla's mother's mind whilst naming the girl at the time of her birth, a devout Christian mother.

Cirlla Eulália de Mérida Amor was born and raised in South America, where she was accepted in to Castelobruxo and faithfully attended until her graduation - where she was to meet the love of her life, or so she had once thought, Ştefan Brânduşa, a Romanian transfer student.

Biological Father: Ştefan Brânduşa, Romanian Decent, Squib, Business Owner & Tycoon

The Net Worth of Romanian - Brazilian Businessman Ştefan Brânduşa is estimated to be an astounding 14,599,800,000 Brazilian Real (4,500,000,000 US Dollars or 3,470,400,000 British Pound Sterling), with an estimated Romanian & Brazilian Properties Worth of 9,084,320,000 Brazilian Real (2,800,000,000 US Dollars or 2,159,360,000 British Pound Sterling). Additionally, Brânduşa owns several exclusive clubs and a hotel chain in Romania, which fetch Brânduşa an annual net worth of 1,452,542,520 Romania Leu (366,600,000 US Dollar or 283,051,860 British Pound Sterling). Appearing almost appathetic towards the extensive inequality issues being faced in both Brazil and Romania, where Brânduşa is a familiar, family name, Brânduşa's personal possessions (a series of frivolous purchases during the past three decades), or "toys", as Brânduşa himself has mockingly refereed to these elitist expenditures during an interview with Forbes during their 100 Year Anniversary Edition Issue, are estimated to value more than 645,871,200 Romania Leu, or 528,837,200 Brazilian Real (163,000,000 US Dollars or 125,901,200 British Pound Sterling) -  Brânduşa's "toys" including, but not limited to Brânduşa's personal airplane, a priceless art collection, two helicopters - this, of course, is not including Brânduşa's three family estates, one of which presently houses Mr & Mrs Brânduşa, the others belonging to his two twin daughters, Sousa Cătălina and Senona Eufemia Brânduşa, which the young adults received as generous gifts on their eighteenth birthday (the legal minimum age of an adult individual in Romania, from which Mr Brânduşa hails). Both the citizens of Romania & of Brazil have united in their collaborative hatred of the infamous  Ştefan Brânduşa and his family, many finding  Ştefan Brânduşa one personally responsible to the contribution towards the drastic social and economic inequality found presently and historically in both Europe and South American.

Disowned and estranged (and cut off from his family's economic and social wealth) by his Pureblooded heritage when Ştefan was discovered to be a squib (a witch or wizard of Pureblooded decent born without magical or wizarding powers or abilities), Ştefan vowed to make a fortune of his own, and one day, far surpass the status of his prejudice parents.

Before the discovery of Ştefan's lack of wizarding ability, his status as a squib, the Brânduşa parents had payed a large sum to ensure Ştefan's inclusion in a prestigious Earopean Student Exchange Programme hosted by the esteemed Castelobruxo School of Witchcraft & Wizardry - where Ştefan would later meet his future wife, and mother of twins Seona Eufemia & Sousa Cătălina Brânduşa, Castelobruxo student, Cirlla Eulália de Mérida Amor, whom he would propose to less than a month later, just before his expulsion from the Wizarding school due to "A Lack Applicable Magical Ability", according to the school's Headmaster.

Siblings:  Sousa Cătălina Brânduşa, 22, Fraternal Twin Sister, Halfblood

Does your character look up to anyone? The Most Extraordinary Society of Potioneers

So I'm basing this to some extent off of the PMs that we exchanged about the character, although I'll admit I'm pretty surprised by what you've come up with. Quite interesting.

A couple of things, though - Castelobruxo isn't located in North America, it's in Brazil in the middle of the rainforest. Just for clarification. I'm not sure, however, that we can include sword-fighting, martial arts, archery and other generally "warrior" aspects that you've given the school. Wizards don't need those abilities and there's nothing in the Castelobruxo information that suggests that this school would be different.

It is also a stretch to say that she learns to be Magizoologist, Herbologist, Potioneer, Alchemist (which, granted, is only taught in the final two years at Hogwarts and is probably similar for other schools) etc in school because while they take the courses they don't become qualified in any way until they either apprentice or take a job in one of those areas.

I honestly can't say that I understand where her "cold, calculating" nature comes from if it isn't from her parents or an inciting incident during school. Typically there's a reason for someone to be harsh or unfeeling, particularly if their childhood was as wonderful as you've said it was.

Additionally, be careful with curse words. They're rarely acceptable if they're as strong as the F-word. It's fine if your character is extremely biased, or religious (though most on PA aren't as there's not really a suggestion of religion in the books), but you'll have to be very careful about how you use that and how you talk about her wealth. The former will probably be off-putting to most of the characters on the site, and the latter -- Yes, we have wealthy characters on PA but it will become something that is considered overpowering if any claims are made that she's one of the wealthiest or that she uses money consistently to get what she wants. That may not be the intention, but it seems to be implied, so be wary.

Aha! It looks like you're going with her being human, then? In the species bit it's easiest to just write Human even though it has a "what to do if they're not" human thing there, so to speak. Otherwise we have to ask. *shrug*

Lastly, you'll need to explain how and why your character came to live in the UK, what her job is now, etc. Otherwise she cannot interact effectively (or, possibly, at all) with the other characters of the site who all live in Europe (typically the UK) and work in the UK.

If you've got any questions, obviously feel free to get in touch!

I apolagize for not yet being able to address your private message; I am a Pharmacy Technician also attending college, on top of being a volunteer at my local hospital, so what time I have free must be very carefully organized. I had hoped we would be able to talk some more here on my character's application in regards to our earlier discussion, as you mentioned, about making possible arrangements towards making my character a partial-blooded Veela. However, I will address your points in this applications before proceeding to that, if that's alright.

A couple of things, though - Castelobruxo isn't located in North America, it's in Brazil in the middle of the rainforest.

Any mention of Caselobruxo being in North America is strictly a typo on my part. I shall go in an edit this, as I entirely molded this particular character's history, family, name, upbringing, culture, etc. on her having been born and raised in Brazil, and consequently sent to receive schooling at Caselobruxo (which I have included all throughout this application, save any typos I may have included by mistake confusing Brazil with North America, as you pointed out.) I thoroughly researched J. K. Rowling's stated canon (both on Pottermore and directly from her written statements) for Castelobruxo.

Just for clarification. I'm not sure, however, that we can include sword-fighting, martial arts, archery and other generally "warrior" aspects that you've given the school. Wizards don't need those abilities and there's nothing in the Castelobruxo information that suggests that this school would be different.

This too, is a misunderstanding. I intended for it to be read as though this character had received private training in these skills ("warrior aspects", as you put it) outside of the Wizarding School of Caselobruxo itself - i.e. that this character had taken private lessons during her time home, such as holidays and over the summer, whilst still of the age to be attending Castelobruxo during the rest of the year (save the before-mentioned free time outside of Caselobruxo when she would receive these lessons in the muggle society, as a witch who was raised by muggle "standards"). Any mention in the history portion of this app that have referred to this character's use of a sword or "training", as I wrote in the application (as well as any other "warrior aspects") were to be considered a hobby, or something that she was in no way taught by the school's professors, but rather by her own ambition, on her own, in private.

It is also a stretch to say that she learns to be Magizoologist, Herbologist, Potioneer, Alchemist (which, granted, is only taught in the final two years at Hogwarts and is probably similar for other schools) etc

Yet another misunderstanding of my written intentions for this character. I never stated that this character "learned to be a Magizoologist, Herbologist, Potioneer, Alchemist, etc. in school because while they take the courses they don't become qualified in any way until they either apprentice or take a job in one of those areas" - I stated that she had taken these courses (you and I could take basic courses in math, but that would not make us mathematicians, for example - this was my intention) and that she possessed a particular knack for these subjects, not that she was in any way a "qualified" Magizoologist, Herbologist, Alchemist, etc. The only subject that I state in this application that she had become "qualified in" or in any way intended to peruse a career in that field, was Potions - any other subjects mentioned were simply an area of schooling that she was "good at".

I honestly can't say that I understand where her "cold, calculating" nature comes from if it isn't from her parents or an inciting incident during school. Typically there's a reason for someone to be harsh or unfeeling, particularly if their childhood was as wonderful as you've said it was.

One can have a "cold, calculating nature", or in other words, be a cynical person without suffering an great trauma in school or having an unhappy childhood; it can be purely chemical. I, for example, had a wonderful childhood by today's standards and suffer from a terrible case of purely-chemical bipolar disorder and depression. According to what I wrote, I have subtly implied that she may have an unaddressed chemically-caused mental disorder (as I refuse to build a character entirely around mental illness just as a general rule in my experience as a roleplayer / writer) that I intend to later, subtly, and with tact, address in character over time. For now, however, I have only stated that, as part of this character's personality, she is cynical and impersonal - unless in regards to a few particular individuals (mentioned in the "Caselobruxo History" section, where I have written that she has actually grown incredibly close to a small inner circle of friends while in school, and that she is incredibly loving, feeling, affectionate, etc. towards her twin sister) towards who she has opened up to by dropping her guard. She is a pessimist. A grump. She holds others at an arm's length until she gets to know them, etc. That is what I wrote. Again, I think this was a misunderstanding of my intention.

Additionally, be careful with curse words. They're rarely acceptable if they're as strong as the F-word.

The two instances of the inclusion of curse words have been removed. I understand this rule. I simply misunderstood; most older proboards forums (not jcink) that I have written on have a list of "banned words" which, typically, are automatically censored by the forumn's settings to a series of asterisks - but this was my mistake, as I made that assumptions. As I stated earlier, they have been removed.

It's fine if your character is extremely biased, or religious (though most on PA aren't as there's not really a suggestion of religion in the books)

This character's personality, history, biases, etc. are entirely written around her having been raised by a Squib (Pureblood) who has renounced all things "Wizard" to live life and to raise his daughters by "Muggle means / standards" and a Halfblooded Witch as their mother (who agreed to raise the twins as muggle children until they received, if they would, a letter of acceptance from a wizard's school). Thus, this particular character was raised as a Christian - which is the most accurate, due to their upbringing in Brazil, a very typically religious culture. There was no mention of religion in the books in regards to "magic folk" - but as you and I both know, we muggles - and human beings as a species - are particularly fond of the inclusion of religion in many of our cultures, thus, respectfully, I see no issue in including this in her upbringing. I in no way intend to "Off put" any other players on Potter's Army with the concept of my character having been raised to believe in Christianity; I have no intention to "lord" this over anyone in character, but have only included her religious upbringing due to the fact that it will influence her personal romantic relationships, her moral choices, and because the "Culture" section in the "Optional Details" section of this application asked me what this character's religious status was (meaning that it is not uncommon for characters to practice a religion).

Yes, we have wealthy characters on PA but it will become something that is considered overpowering if any claims are made that she's one of the wealthiest or that she uses money consistently to get what she wants. That may not be the intention, but it seems to be implied, so be wary.

This was never once implied. In fact, I had addressed this potential misunderstanding preemptively by having stated throughout the application that this particular character is from a wealthy upbringing (included in this application only to thoroughly explain the traits and beliefs that she obtained from being raised in a wealthy home / from that particular lifestyle) ; that her father is largely regarded as a Muggle millionaire - something which has no bearing on the Wizarding World, as they use entirely different currency canonically, and because, as stated in the following portion of the "After Caselobruxo History" section of this application, where this character was once entirely and obscenely spoiled - earning her the designer clothing, rare jewelry, and other such possessions which will likely make an appearance in any mentions of her history in character, as well as the manor that has been gifted to her (which is located in Brazil, and will likely only ever be mentioned in passing, or whilst visiting her family IC, as she obviously will be living in the UK for her to exist on Potter's Army) - she has renounced her "allowance", or the money that was previously being thrown at her by her wealthy father in exchange for her participation in her "grooming" to be a successor to her father's Muggle empire in order to peruse her passion in potions / the Wizarding World, AND because she, as I wrote it, "she could not be a prouder Brânduşa heir, she knew her ambition, bravery, and honor were bigger than Ştefan Brânduşa's infamous empire of business and crime". Thus, this character's travels around the "Northern Realms" was the last of any money given to her by her wealthy father. I had intended for this to be a subject of plotting in character after acceptance; i.e. "How does one live without her father's money if she has been raised to be a spoiled brat by means of her father's billion dollar empire her entire life? How will she survive? How will she fair on her own with only the money she makes herself, and a number of possessions carried with her from her previous life of wealth (such as her closet)?" You get the gist.

It looks like you're going with her being human, then? In the species bit it's easiest to just write Human even though it has a "what to do if they're not" human thing there, so to speak. Otherwise we have to ask.

This is where I had hoped we could address this in better depth. You refereed me to Selwyn. I had hoped to finished speaking to you admins before just going off and labeling her anything other than human, as I feel that would be a bit disrespectful on my part. I assume we have a lot to go over if we intend to make this particular character any more Veela than 1/4... If it is looking as though that particular avenue may be unattainable, I would like to move on with this character as human. This, I hope, is something we will discuss.

Lastly, you'll need to explain how and why your character came to live in the UK, what her job is now, etc. Otherwise she cannot interact effectively (or, possibly, at all) with the other characters of the site who all live in Europe (typically the UK) and work in the UK.

I addressed that she traveled all over the globe and I made this statement rather vague, so not to write out every individual region she may have traveled, and left it at, rather "she traveled all over, here were a few of the major stops before she decided, ultimately, to end by,  rather than returning home to Brazil or Romania as her parents had asked her, to head to the Ministry of Magic in the UK - where she eventually (and presently IC) found herself in the UK, having honed her skills to some degree, to pursue a career at the Ministry of Magic, located in the UK canonically, see here: "She wouldn't get that if she fulfilled her families desire to come home and be their perfect little prodigy to show off but utilize. She would never be what she needed to be with them, nor would she ever truly be allowed to pursue her passion in the more combat-oriented are of her skill set. She wanted the ministry to want her. She wanted to the world to look to her and know her power. She wanted to be a perfect, poisonous warrior." This was where I implied that she would, after being accepted, pursue a new home and a new career in the UK through the Ministry of Magic.

I hope this has addressed everything! Any replies I make are made ASAP, as I have a very tight schedule. Thanks! Smile

BRÂNDUŞA, Senona Eufemia Empty Re: BRÂNDUŞA, Senona Eufemia

For clarification's sake, the majority of what I included in my last response was to help with plotting, not to deter you from character choices. The way that you broke it apart in chunk and responded by italicizing and bolding things makes me think that perhaps you've taken some of it personally which was not my intention.

The money thing is not an issue, nor is the typo. That's what I included "just a clarification" for. I thought that perhaps you'd misread or misunderstood something so it was best to clear it up now rather than later. As for the money thing, private lessons in those areas are fine, though she likely won't have any use for them in the wizarding world. We do have characters that consider themselves to be better at more Muggle means of fighting, and our only rule about that, of course, is the fear that training in a wide variety of areas could be used to make a character seem overpowered. As long as that's not made into a problem, I've got no problem with it. So go ahead and leave that in, then.

I didn't take from that line that she would be working for the Ministry, so thank you for clarifying that. Just be aware that we do have a policy that if characters do illegal things, they don't always get away with is. This could lead to losing a job or even a stint in Azkaban, so if the "poisonous warrior" part means that she intends to do harm, then perhaps that will make for interesting plotting when she gets caught. Characters can't get away with everything, of course, so in theory that could be quite interesting.

I also said that it's fine for her to be religious, so you needn't explain it to me. I understand that it's a cultural thing, I merely included that to preface the part about bias in such strong ways potentially hindering your ability to write with other characters who won't feel the same way. If you're comfortable with that, then by all means, pretend I never brought it up.

One thing that cannot be included, however, is the mental illness. We have a strict rule against characters with mental or physical disabilities, and those with illnesses either of "Muggle" nature or based directly upon them. We have members who come to PA to get away from having to deal with those things and we do not want them to have to see more of it on the site. So that part cannot be included.

I asked about the Veela thing because you said that her app was completed, and that will need to be decided before she can be sorted, that way we know what to put in her sidebar, and so that we know that the Veela lore/rules have been explained properly re: the whole harpy situation. So if you want to talk to Selwyn and/or PM me, we can go from there. It might be easier to address the above in those messages as well, considering we'll be sending them anyway and that way it can all be in one place.

BRÂNDUŞA, Senona Eufemia Empty Re: BRÂNDUŞA, Senona Eufemia

I broke your points in to sections purely for the sake of addressing every concern individually; to clear each problem up. This was my only intention. I understand your making these points are to ensure proper usage of character traits within your forum and it was my hope to clear these problems up for you. In no way did I take it personally. I certainly hope none of this has been taken that way.

"Poisonious warrior" was used in quotations as a means to convey that this is the character's IC view of what she is training to become. OOC, or narratively, it means nothing more than being able to defend herself - i.e. if she were to become an auror, for example, this skill in combat / dueling may translate as her being capable of applying these same concepts in a more magic-oriented concept of dueling, such as being able to jump or dodge away from spells cast by criminals, to use stealth measures and hand-to-hand combat in order to subdue and detain / arrest a criminal, etc. Not to commit crime. I am assuming you are taking this idea of this particular character "commiting crime" or "getting away with illegal activities" from my inclusion of the quote on "Character Alignment" - it was not my intention for this to be received as "this character is a villain"; its inclusion was strictly a means of explaining that her father's wealth may have been obtained by not only legal means, such as his career in owning properties, hotel chains, being a business man of sorts, etc. but also by moonlighting in criminal activities, and that she has thus inherited similar personality traits - not that she would ever act on them.

Essentially, the idea being that, while an individual might have the personality type that is prone to manipulation in order to rise to a position of power, and may have thoughts of taking advantage of the law, etc. these are merely temptations; the thought may cross an individual's (of this particular alignment) mind to rob a bank, for example, that is not to say that they would ever do it, as someone of this personality type is often very aware of the social consequences of any such criminal activities and cares too much about self-preservation to ever act on these thoughts or temptations - an example of this type of social self-preservation which can be seen in her use of a "proper, poised persona" whilst in the public eye; a clear means of portraying herself as she wishes to be seen by the public.

As I previously stated (in my last reply), I absolutely refuse to build a character upon, or in any way roleplay about mental illness. Please see my earlier statement. I myself have severe Bipolar Disorder and would be personally repelled by anyone, including myself, romanticizing mental illness. This was my whole point in very carefuly avoiding any such subjects by specifically referring to her as "cold" or "impersonal", rather than making her cynicism a result of a childhood trauma, or trauma during her schooling, as you mentioned. She is a grump. That is all the deeper that trait runs. This is the very point I was trying to make.

Since my last reply, I have decided for the sake of the fact that, yes, I agree with the statement that you made in the private messages that we corresponded in, that to become a harpy at any great points of anger in her plot and as a result having no control of her actions would do a great deal of damage to her subplots and relationships, that I will be leaving this character's species as "human" (which I have edited in). Essentially, I had wanted to give her wings that she could be "all angsty about" in private and keep a "tortured secret", similar to Remus Lupin and his case of lycanthropey. To make her a veela would not logically suit her character at this point in time, in all honesty, as she has a twin, and it would cause a lot of issues in her plot if one of the sisters was a veela, and not the other, as well as the issue of determining how veela she would be, etc etc. Perhaps this avenue will be  better pursued by a different character, at a different time here on Potter's Army. But I would like to thank you sincerely for your help in coming to this decision. It helped me greatly to be able to sort of "spitball" ideas that made the most sense, so to speak.

I hope I have addressed any issues with the application! Thank you  Smile

BRÂNDUŞA, Senona Eufemia Empty Re: BRÂNDUŞA, Senona Eufemia

Post by Everly Bardugo Sat Oct 01, 2016 9:02 am

I did understand your reasoning for her being detached, but you said that you wanted to address the fact that she had a mental illness that had been unattended to, sometime in the future. Because of the site's rules, that can't happen. I'm not saying that you're planning to make a character solely based upon that, but we can't include it in a character, period. Even as a subplot or smaller thing. We do allow for memories to be altered magically, but other than that we just can't allow it for the sake of the other members who might find it offensive or upsetting in some way.

Other than that, I don't really have anything. So I'll go ahead and sort her under the assumption that the above won't be an issue. Claims is going to be your next step, and then making and/or looking through RP Requests may be your next best option to get involved. That, or Open threads of your making might do nicely to get a feel for her.
