Code:
[*]Ilya Ivanriel ([color=#990000]Legimency[/color])
[*]

Name: Ilya Ivanriel
Age: Twenty Seven
Abilities: Legilimency
Skill in that ability: Advanced
Training: Ilya received extensive training for several years; from the ages of 17 in his graduation to the present at age 27 by his superiors at the Ministry of Magic - training which was volunteered by his fellow auror, and while it is not always a standard subject of a Ministry employee's training, was something which another was willing to devote to teaching Ilya, having seen his potential in the area due to his already inherent sensitivity to the emotions of those individuals around him. The learned skill of Legilimency would seem to fit him like a glove after ten years of persistent, guided schooling in the subject. (I have left the name & details of the superior who trained him since this may be something we are able to rp ic later in a past thread! Smile )

Brief RP: Ilya raised his hands, blinking when he saw the blood on them.

He should expect to see blood on his hands at the scene, leftover from the crimes of a dark wizard, shouldn't he? After all, he'd done this. He had mangled this man with dark magic, without a second thought as to what he was doing. He had used his wand expertly; he had attacked this Muggle man.

Slowly, he stood up, holding his hands out in front of him. He had to wash them, had to remove the blood before he left this dingy, copper-reeking room in the Leaky Cauldron.

Then he could melt into the crowds in the city, disappear into the rest of society. He would never be found; he was far too clever for that. Not after looking his pursuer in the eyes directly in his retreat from the scene of the crime. He would not let those blue eyes spy upon him again. But he knew; the Auror would remember him - forever. He had felt a strange & electric bond form between them the moment he had allowed his frantic eyes to meet his as he fled past him.

Ilya backed up another step -- then closed his eyes, reality setting in.

Ilya hadn't done this. He was in the mind of a dark wizard; the attacker; a killer - more intimately than he'd ever been before. He'd actually felt the determination; the exactness, & precision of the dark wizard's kill -- his racing vital ventricle organ was proof of that.

He took a deep breath, then another. The scent of blood was lodged in his nostrils; it was all around him, making him feel dizzy. It was drawing him back into the mind of the criminal -- he'd never had such a hard time snapping himself out of that mindset and back into reality.Out of the other man's mind & back in to his own. Legimency was tricky like that.

It was a good thing that no one was here in the room with him to see the condition he was in; the other Aurors and the trailing Ministry officials were still well behind him, having not yet arrived. Ilya had been the one to discover the man they were hunting; the perpetrator, & had locked eyes with him for just long enough for Ilya to hone in on him in his shock in having been found there, standing before his muggle victim.

Ilya opened his eyes for the first time since meeting the dark wizard's own and looked down at his hands -- to find that there was no blood there. The red had vanished; he had seen it through the emotions and memories of the criminal; all while his empathy had held him in its grip. He had knelt by the victim, but he hadn't touched it. His hands were clean.

All of the red was on the injured man lying there in front of him - just barely clinging to life; he would survive this at St. Mungo's. But it would be a close call. He had his brush with death.

There was no red discolouring his own clothes. No blood. He hadn't done this..

But his mind was still filled with red. Even ten years later, Ilya would never quite adjust to Legimency and its mingling with his empathy.

Code:

[*]Ilya Ivanriel ([color=#990000]Energy Working [/color])

Name: Ilya Ivanriel
Age: Twenty Seven
Abilities: Energy Worker
Skill in that ability: Advanced
Training: In his final two years at Ivormony, Ilya was taken in by a professor as a pupil in the learned ability of Energy Working; the tutor, Ivormony professor himself was greatly gifted in the field, & had seen Ilya's eagerness to learn. For, Ilya had not initially discovered his passion for profiling & analyzing dark wizards for the Ministry of Magic until it had occurred to him during his shadowing of a healer at St. Mungo's - having once intended to become a healer himself - that he could not handle such a position; that, to lose a patient, would have been too much for him; an occurrence which the healer whom he had shadowed had made quite clear to him to be a common one.

Thus, he had already begun two years into his training as a student of the ability of Energy Working before his decision to abandon the field of healing, and proceed on to becoming an Auror with the Ministry. But he was not blind to how useful such a learned ability might be in such a position; and though his inability to witness suffering had caused him to falter away from healing, his determination, drive & passion to one day become a skilled Energy Worker had in no way dimmed. His teacher recognised this, & even in Ilya's graduation had offered to continue his training as a private tutor outside of Ivormony until he was truly ready; until twelve years had made him fluent in the ability.

Brief RP: Ilya's eyes softened as he gently rest his hands, the feather-light touch of his calloused palm and the pads of his fingertips, on the shoulder of the wounded man before him; his injuries running far deeper than the flesh; striking emotional oil; a dark tar bit of the terror that had flooded him in his experience with the dark wizard who had left him lying on the floor of that darkly lit room in the Leaky Cauldron. He was grateful to Ilya; counted him among the few reasons he was still, albeit shakily, breathing.

Ilya's voice was low and calming as he spoke quietly aloud to the victim before him, beginning with these words the processes of easing, if only a wee bit, the distress that plagued his muggle "patient"; Ilya was no healer. He only desired to be of some help to the main; to ease, if only the slightest - but to the best of his ability - his emotional suffering. "Be calm. Feel the relief of your fear wash over you. Slow, even breathing. Feel my hand on your skin."

Ilya's eyelids fluttered shut as he concentrated; honing in on the most powerful of the positive emotions Ilya had ever experienced in his twenty-seven years, and worked to pour as much as Energy Working would allow him of that joy, relief, contentment, and other positive energy in to the man's very center through the small connection at his scared shoulder; hand ghosting atop one of the muggle man's worst injuries, inflicted by the criminal Ilya had previously pursued. And beneath him, the victim flexed - tensed, and like a leaf, swaying softly from its mother tree, he melted like putty; slid slowly down from sitting to lay comfortably, bringing his head to rest heavily on his pillow. Ilya could do not for the man's physical injuries anything that the incredibly gifted professionals at St. Mungo's Hospital - but he could ease a little bit of that fear, and the horrid nightmares.

A lax smile crept unevenly across the patient's face, and Ilya, all at once, was flooded with utter, overwhelming terror; he never had been particularly good at grounding himself, so taking in negative energy had become a symptom of his Energy Working that he had simply grown to expect of the ritualistic process, despite his twelve years of training and his advanced skill in the ability. Ilya's eyes fluttered open and he stumbled ungracefully backwards, blue windows to the soul filling with tears that were not his own - he blinked them back with determination as he strained to examine the victim.

He had, at the least, done some good; the man lay sleeping, smiling contently with even breathing in some of the first restful and nurtured sleep he had gotten since Ilya had discovered him, crumpled in a room in the Leaky Cauldron. "Sleep well. You have survived this" Ilya whispered, relieved with by results as he swallowed hard against the negative energies that did not belong to him that would surely consume him for a short while.

Re: Magical Abilities

Post by Kipling Parsons on Tue Jan 10, 2017 8:13 pm

So Kip was a Legilimens at one point but I must've forgot to reapply along the line. And the other one is something I've RP-ed out before it was an official ability. Here they arrre.

Code:
[*]Kipling Parsons ([color=#FF6600] Legilimens[/color])
[*]

Code:
[*]Kipling Parsons ([color=#FF6600]Occlumency[/color])

[*]

Name: Kipling Parsons
Age: 29
Abilities: Legilimens, Occlumency
Skill in that ability: Intermediate-Advanced
Training: Kip began training to be a Legilimens when he was 15 under the mentorship of his Transfiguration professor and had the basics of it down by 19. In the process, that same professor taught him Occlumency, since they seemed to be compatible skills. When he met his friend Yuri, who was accomplished in both, the two worked to strengthen their abilities.
Brief RP:
Spoiler:
To anyone else, it must have looked like a very stupid staring contest.

There, in the spare room above The Ugly Pigeon, Kip and Yuri stared at each other from their usual chairs, the only indication of life lying in the subtle twitches of their neck and brows, but otherwise, nothing. Each man gripped their wand tightly, arm resting on the arm of their chairs.

Kip once again resisted that urge to close his eyes as he pushed deeper, reliving memories of school, of travels afterwards, of meeting Jack, of hearing he had every opportunity to finally meet his father, of saying his good byes to Katarina Rookwood-

He could almost feel Yuri smirking through the memories. These sessions had been frequent enough in their long friendship that Yuri's influence had a certain flavor in Kip's mind, as he was sure his did in his Russian friend's conscience. Any shift in motive or feeling, though subtle, had become perceptible to him. He doubted this would be the case for any other person trying to probe his memories, but it sure was true for Yuri.

Yuri was feeling pleased with himself, and that couldn't do. Kip squeezed his wand and commanded the word internally, Legilimens and he was suddenly bursting forth into a corridor of Durmstrang, following closely behind a teenager with a neat haircut, descending down a staircase at night, wand held aloft. Yuri's resistance grew and the memory flickered away, but Kip was moving on anyway, pushing to Yuri's first class, where the young man's fingers betrayed his nerves as they fumbled to shuffle through papers on his desk-

Kenna McBain walked into the room with two beers for her friends to discover them in this near catatonic state. She sighed, "Are you two doing that thing again?"

Kip withdrew from Yuri's mind and released his wand, just as the Russian man did the same. Kip exhaled a breath, but Yuri had already recovered, having always managed to have a cooler head than his companion. "Yes, we're doing that thing."

Kenna rolled her eyes, though the gesture was affectionate. "It's weird."

Kip took the beer bottle from his friend and turned to look at Yuri, who had a strange, knowing look. "What?"

"You pushed me out when I got to memories about Kat," he stated.

"I pushed you out when you got smug," Kip corrected, lifting the beer to his lips.

Yuri's eyes twinkled but he let his friend slide. The exercise was supposed to be purely academic as it was. He supposed he could allow Kip some level of privacy... though he wouldn't be forgetting it soon.

[*]Kenna McBain ([color=#FF6600] Memory Manipulation[/color])

Name: Kenna McBain
Age: 24
Abilities: Memory Manipulation
Skill in that ability: Beginner
Training: Um, not much. She basically learned the theory from her Kip and Yuri and underestimated it and attempted it on her muggle boyfriend. While she was able to plant a memory, she messed with his memories and messed up his head. Her friends are going to soon convince her to try to learn the skill for real.
Brief RP: It's mentioned in her app re: Jamie but I can write out a longer sample if needed.

Name: Matthew Lestrange
Age: 32
Abilities: The Unforgivable's
Skill in that ability: Intermediate
Training: Years of grooming by his father during the summers. In preparation for his initiation into the Death Eater organization.
Brief RP:
They were all looking at him, their eyes burning a hole in the back of his cloak. He stood before a man, someone they all thought was deserving of death. It almost seemed like this was an initiation of sorts; "Let's see if this guy really has enough balls to hang out with us" he could hear one of them say as they threw a rock at the man. This was hardly something Matt lived to do but it was something he could do if he really needed to. All it would take is some convincing that this man was truly as bad as they say. He felt a gentle hand grab his shoulder and a female voice in his year. "If you need some convincing," the voice began "this man raped and killed four girls from the village only a few kilometers away." That was enough for Matt to hear, he looked down at the man with hatred in his eyes. He lifted his wand "Avada Kedavra" he said coldly and as the green light hit the man's body he saw the light leave his eyes. Matt didn't feel sad, he didn't feel angry, he felt as if justice had been done. He was calm.

Re: Magical Abilities

Post by Fensa Podmore on Sat Mar 11, 2017 3:08 am

Name: Fensa Podmore
Age: Fourteen
Abilities: Lingua Animalia - Birds
Skill in that ability: Beginner-- She can understand commonly found birds quite well, but struggles with speaking much of anything. It's difficult for her to converse with rare species.
Training: Little to none-- practice on her own over the course of her life so far, through interaction with birds
Brief RP:

Fensa stared at her corrected Transfiguration essay.  Scrawled across the top was a lengthy note which, in essence, said "See me after class because this work is completely unacceptable."  She-- she had never gotten a bad grade on an assignment, barring perhaps her first few days of homework in Muggle Studies.  But even those were nowhere near to failing.

But this?

Fensa's fingernails crinkled the paper as her hands twitched, almost wanting to crumple the scroll into bits.  A 0?  That was hardly even a grade at all!  Was her work so awful that the teacher had flat out refused to read it any longer?

The girl had been standing still as a statue this entire time, the essay wrinkled as it was clutched with disbelief.  Now-- she broke into a run.  All she could think of was an escape.  From shame, from- from her own disappointment.  From her housemates, peering at her umoving form and scrutinizing her.  Staring at the paper in her hands.

She burst outside into the courtyard, hoping that nobody would notice she wasn't in class.  It was rare for her to skip, but many Ravenclaws tended to volunteer the answers, so her presence wasn't always missed.  Fensa leaned against a gnarly tree and caught her breath.  More than that, she lifted up the right sleeve of her robes to dab at the tears that glistened on her cheeks.

"Sadness does not suit you," a warm, rich voice spoke.  The girl started out of surprise before glancing around, her eyes landing on a tawny feathered hawk with dark markings.  It's-- no, his beak was open in dismay as the bird regarded the student curiously.  "Nestlings ought not to brood, and save that for the adults.  Fly back to class, now" the honeyed voice advised.

So Fensa dried her tears and returned to her school.  Later, she would discover that the failing grade had been a practical joke, nothing more-- a simple charm by a mischievous, unknown student.  Her work had received an Exceeds Exceptions underneath the glamour.

Brief RP: "No.." Augusta whispered and walked faster towards the doungeons where her next lesson was held.
"Are you sure you don't want it?" the mist with barely recognizable woman's face asked, puting its palm on Augusta's shoulder which made Augusta shiver.
"I'm sure aunt, I don't want to.." she blushed hearing a few snickers as some students laughed at her, probably thinking she's speaking with herself again, "I will not do it. Please, leave me alone now, I have a lesson to attend."

*he's already an animagus

Name: Adrian Blanchard
Age: 26
Abilities: Alchemist - broom maker
Skill in that ability: intermediate/advanced (whichever)
Training: He went through an apprenticeship in one of the biggest broom making store in Switzerland while he lived there so he could find a decent job once his Quidditch career is over.
Brief RP: "Cedar, sir." Adrian answered after careful studying of the branch. "It's used mainly for child brooms due to its performance. Cedar brooms are quite slow and can't raise more than one and a half meters above the ground level, but they're easy to handle." He put the branch back on the table, on a pile of branches he already named and listed their specifications. "That's why people usually buy it for their kids - they're safe. The other man nodded in affirmation and Adrian felt a rush of pride for yet another correct answer. The broom maker didn't let him enjoy in feeling, though, placing another branch in his open palm. "Ebony, sir. Their branches are perfect for tails..."

Name: Adrian Blanchard
Age: 26
Abilities: The Unforgivables
Skill in that ability: intermediate/advanced (ed. Sel)
Training: He's been a Death Eater for almost ten years, it's them who learn him to cast the unforgivable.
Brief RP: The only feeling he felt was loathing as he watched the woman on the floor – Cindy, she told him her name earlier that night – squirming on the floor in a nightdress that was once deep pink but turned burgundy hours ago, dirty from all the mud on the floor of the abandoned building next to the wizard nightclub. It’s quite a perfect place, actually, no one was able to hear her screams because of loud music and it was fun to watch how her eyes turn full of hope every time she hears someone passing by, hoping that person might help her escape him. Adrian let his wand down, stopping the curse and woman stopped squirming, taking large gulps of air and trying to crawl away from him, once again. It's a dance they performed every time he put his wand down, and by now he was almost perfect in it. With every her try, she was only going deeper in the building and destroying chances of someone finding her here even more. "Stop." Adrian was satisfied seeing that Cindy actually stopped. During the first couple of times, she had some troubles with understanding the meaning of word ‘stop’ but she was slowly starting to learn. "Will you tell me where he is?" Adrian walked towards her, carefully overstepping her wand that lay broken on the floor just a couple of feets away from her, crouched in front of her. "No." Her voice was hoarse from all the screaming, but he heard her clear enough. "As you wish darling, I have all night at my disposal. Imperio!"

You'll need to post back when they're sorted. Just some notes though:

I like the idea of Augusta trying to block her ability, but maybe chat to Khaat about how it would work? She's our expert on seer abilities. I don't know whether I could accept it.

If Adrian had been a Death Eater for 10 years, he'd have joined when he was 16. The only character who joined that young is Draco Malfoy. Other characters join the Dark Followers.

Re: Magical Abilities

Post by Lorcan D'Eath on Thu Mar 16, 2017 2:42 am

Aethe,

I do like the idea of your character being able to block ancestral medium abilities. However, in terms of whether she is intermediate or advanced, she is much too inexperienced to have developed the skill level for something as sophisticated as blocking some form of psychic ability.

Let me see if I can explain it in a way that makes sense. An ancestral medium is someone who has the ability to communicate, probably through what's called clairvoyance or clairaudient abilities--in other words either seeing or hearing from one's ancestors, the abilities being strengthened because the ancestors they are hearing from are spirits they are related to by blood.

There are some folks who say they have various sorts of psychic abilities and who believe it is necessary to develop a blocking ability, but in order for that to work effectively, they would develop their skills first in the ability itself--including how it works and all those issues, and the blocking would be a secondary skill that would come later.

As I said, though, I do like the idea that she wants to block her skills, so I am willing to let her have some limited ability of turning off those skills. No one is good at turning those things off all the time, and supposedly there are times when, according to lore, some spirit wants so badly to communicate that they are more pushy about it and overwhelm the psychic, if that makes sense, through any number of attention seeking behaviors.

I would be willing for her to have intermediate abilities at being an ancestral medium, but I'm not good with her being an advanced level medium because it is such a complex thing to learn anyway.

I'm okay with intermediate on the alchemist/broom maker and the Unforgiveable skills. But, no, Adrian is too young to have had ten years as a Death Eater. He would have had to be in the Dark Followers at least until graduation. And, it isn't just Death Eaters who learn to cast Unforgiveables.

If you have questions, let me know.
