DARROW, Adelie Maren

on Fri Jun 26, 2015 2:47 am

FULL NAME: Adelie Maren Darrow

“Red” – a not-so-subtle jab at her house heritage used by some Death Eater companions.
"Leila" - the nickname derived from her father but is occasionally used by almost all members of her family.
"Addie" - the nickname used by other Gryffindors during her early years at Hogwarts. After she joined the Dark Followers it became increasingly uncommon.
"#3" - the number on her jersey is often used as an address in itself.

AGE: Twenty-Three | April 20th, 2005

ALLEGIANCE: Death Eaters

OCCUPATION: Chaser for Falmouth Falcons, Consulting Criminal

WAND:  Spruce, Dragon Heartstring and Ghoul Slime, Pliant, 11 ½”
“Spruce requires something of a firm hand--it does not do well at all with nervous wielders, and might not work at all for someone who lacks the right confidence. It can, however, produce bold, flambuoyant magic if put in the right hands.”

“Dragon Heartstring is a powerful wand with a lot of magical “heft”. It is not the core you want for subtlety, but for sheer power it is definitely the best. Although it is the most common core among Dark Wizards, Dark Wizards are most certainly not their most common users. Dragon Heartstrings are by far the most common wand core amongst Slytherins, but their power often bonds to Gryffindors and Ravenclaws as well.”

“Ghoul Slime is often found in the wands of divas and people who like to be the center of attention, just like the Ghouls the Slime comes from. They also give a moderate boost to Jinxes.”

PLAY BY: Natalie Dormer

FACE SHAPE: Pentagonal
EYE SHAPE: Downturned
LIP SHAPE: Pointy Natural
HAIR TYPE: High Wavy
HAIR COLOR: Golden Blonde
HEIGHT: 5’6”
BODY BUILD: Athletic

CLOTHING: Closet Sample

Adelie's style varies from lazily put together to glamorous femme fatale. Her closet has a dominant monochromatic color scheme highlighted with reds. She has a particular fondness for a deep crimson that echoes the days of her Gryffindor uniform. It is equally likely to find Adelie in black leather or loosely fitted running sweatpants. She is reasonably conscious of dressing for the occasion and will happily make an effort on her appearance when meeting with the right company. Even in her day to day ensembles Adelie takes the extra ten minutes in the morning to do her hair and makeup, even if it is just to give her a purposefully lazy look.

BOGGART: Like the great Harry Potter himself, Adelie's boggart often appears in the form of a dementor. But unlike Harry, she sees the creature as a symbol of Azkaban rather than a symbol of fear. Alternatively, Adelie has also seen herself covered in the traditional Azkaban prison tattoos, huddled in a silent ball. Both visions present the same message - you are trapped, you are forgotten, you will do nothing else with your life.

PATRONUS: Despite her dark tendencies Adelie does still possess some of the classic Gryffindor spirit and after considerable work in her later school years she has successfully produced a Patronus. While several memories are likely good enough to inspire the spell the one she uses most often is receiving her Hogwarts letter while at breakfast.

DEMENTOR: While Adelie's life has certainly not been all peaches and cream there is no single memory that would stand out as her worst. But here are some of the particularly unpleasant ones:
- Grainger and Ronnie getting in a fist fight during a party
- Various instances where former Gryffindor friends made it clear that they no longer wanted her company
- That one really awful Quidditch final

VERITASERUM: As much as she denies it, Adelie buys a little too much into superstitions, horoscopes, and divination.

MIRROR OF ERISED: Recognition. For her skills, intelligence, and looks, Adelie wants to be appreciated for what she knows she has. A mixture of vanity and pride, her reflection in the mirror would simply show the flashing lights and gentle pops of paparazzi cameras in the background.

"You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart"

To this day, Adelie Darrow proudly identifies herself as a Gryffindor. And despite her allegiances, she is completely suited to wear the red and gold. Adelie is relentlessly brave, to the point of recklessness. She is frustratingly strong willed and once she has decided to do something it takes quite a lot of effort to pull her back unwillingly. Adelie holds a deep desire to prove herself, especially in situations of physical skill, and will willingly seek out or stir up conflicts just to prove how much she really can do. Over time, her successes have built Adelie’s confidence, making her increasingly proud and boastful about her accomplishments.

Adelie has always had a tendency to see the world in black and white. She chooses her sides quickly and once allegiances are established it would take an extreme event to shift her loyalties. Although Adelie views much of the world within the categories of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ this does not necessarily correspond in her mind with ‘good’ and ‘evil'. Truthfully, she does not give much consideration to right and wrong when making her decisions and feels no guilt if the choice that is right for her does not align with the ‘real’ right choice. Above all, Adelie holds a somewhat egocentric view of the world and loyalties to herself will always come first.

To feed this world view, Adelie likes everything best when she is at the center of attention. While not a full-blown diva, she does have a bit of a superstar mentality that is only bolstered by the fame that her position in the Falmouth Falcons brings. Despite having a real weakness for the limelight, Adelie has never been consumed by it. While she does not like others to notice her faults, she is increasingly aware of her own weaknesses.

While Adelie is best known for her physical abilities – both sport and crime – she is really quite bright. Adelie is quick at problem solving and has the ability to look at situations both in terms of miniscule details and in large systems. Once she has learned and preformed a task once she will never need to be taught again but would prefer to move on to learn something new rather than stay and perfect old methods. She tends to view her social relationships in a similar light - Adelie takes on fixer uppers and befriends unique individuals in an effort to understand them and as soon as this task is done she tends to grow distant until the relationships dissolve.

Adelie has a tendency to be on-again off-again in all of her relationships. Romantically, this manifests in a series of one or two month infatuations and one night stands. Despite her dismissal of commitment, Adelie does have the Gryffindor chivalry and is more than happy to pay, buy her partner unexpected gifts, and send flowers. She is unafraid to court someone. Because Adelie's romantic interest so often hinges on her intellectual interest in the individual, gender has never been a criteria. Similarly, Adelie is sexually attracted to strength, regardless of its form, shape, or size.

Adelie is brave, she's just often fighting for the wrong side. Adelie is daring, she just proves it in a vain way. Adelie has nerve, she just doesn't know the line between admirable and stupid. Adelie is chivalrous, she just looks after an unexpected crowd. As much as her housemates hate to admit it, she is a true Gryffindor.

Adelie as an ENTP
Extravert(89%) iNtuitive(12%) Thinking(25%) Perceiving(17%)
"Clever" is the word that perhaps describes ENTPs best. The professor who juggles half a dozen ideas for research papers and grant proposals in his mind while giving a highly entertaining lecture on an abstruse subject is a classic example of the type. So is the stand-up comedian whose lampoons are both funny and incisively accurate.

ENTPs are usually verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their debating skills. ENTPs tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. This sometimes confuses, even angers, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport.

ENTPs are as innovative and ingenious at problem-solving as they are at verbal gymnastics; on occasion, however, they manage to outsmart themselves. ENTPs can be prone to "sharp practice" – especially cutting corners without regard to the rules if it's expedient – or, their juggling acts may simply be so over-ambitious they collapse.

Both at work and at home, ENTPs are very fond of "toys" -- physical or intellectual, the more sophisticated the better. Once these have been "solved" or become too familiar, however, they’ll be replaced with new ones.

ENTPs are basically optimists, but in spite of this (perhaps because of it?), they can become petulant about small setbacks and inconveniences. (Major setbacks they regard as challenges, and tackle with determination.) ENTPs have little patience with those they consider wrongheaded or unintelligent, and show little restraint in demonstrating this. In general, however, they are genial, even charming, when not being harassed by life.

In terms of their relationships with others, ENTPs are capable of bonding very closely and suddenly with their loved ones. Some appear deceptively offhand with their nearest and dearest; others are so demonstrative that they succeed in shocking co-workers who've only seen their professional side. ENTPs are also quick to spot a kindred spirit, and good at acquiring friends of similar temperament and interests.
ENTPs may sometimes give the impression of being largely oblivious to the rest of humanity except as an audience: good, bad, or potential. In general this is unfair – but it can be difficult to get an ENTP’s attention when they’re not immediately aware of you, especially for an Introvert.

The best approach in communicating with an ENTP is to be straightforward. No games – they’ll win. No "pulling rank" – they’ll just want to put you in your place. No apologies – you’ll undermine yourself.  Try "I need/want to talk to you."

FATHER: Atticus Darrow | Fifty-Four | Pureblood | Ex-Slytherin | Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee

MOTHER: Marina Darrow (nee Wickham) | Fifty-Four | Half Blood | Ex-Beauxbatons | Lawyer

Grangier “Grey” Darrow | Twenty-Five | Ex-Gryffindor | Improper Use of Magic Office / Enforcement Officer
Personality wise, Grey and Adelie are incredibly similar. They both exemplify the Gryffindor traits to a tee and hold the same deep-founded need for recognition. Grangier has always wanted to be a hero. He's the type of boy who walks old ladies across the street and gets kittens down from trees but is always hoping that people see him do it. Despite their similarities in thought process, temperament, and motivations, Adelie and Grey have become more distant over the years do to their drastically different ideology and lifestyles.

Ronnie Darrow | Twenty-Four | Ex-Slytherin | Floo Network Authority | Death Eater
For years it appeared that Ronnie and Adelie had nothing in common. The divisions of Hogwarts houses kept the siblings from becoming too close and they only began to really reconnect in his latest years of school.  Post-graduation, the Death Eaters gave the siblings common enemies and common goals, truly syncing them for the first time in their relationship. Despite being completely different people, Adelie and Ronnie are often assumed either to be twins or a couple by those who first meet them. After being observed together on a mission a rumor began that they could telecommunicate.

Rory McBain | Ex-Husband
They weren't married long. They certainly didn't fall in love. Once they got over themselves and realized the other was equally displeased with the Marriage Law everything went relatively smoothly. Looking back, Adelie couldn't have asked for much more in someone to be paired with.

Jasmine Fawley | Pureblood | Ex-Slytherin | Being Specialist (Merfolk Translator)
The first time Adelie and Jasmine spoke was in forth year Herbology: Slytherin and Gryffindor edition. Within a few months the pair had crossed house lines to become best friends, a move that brought Adelie into her social circles but not the other way around. From forth year beyond the pair were attached at the hip through highs and lows. Though they were distanced slightly after graduation she remains one of the only people Adelie trusts. They go out for drinks or dancing almost every Friday night.

BLOOD STATUS:  Half-Blood

SOCIAL STATUS: Was born upper middle class. Is currently middle class.

PET/S: None

EARLY YEARS: With two older brothers, Adelie was always the baby of the Darrow household. While she was the girl her mother had wanted, Adelie immediately became a Daddy's Girl, always happiest when she was wrapped into Atticus' arms. As time passed she moved from the affection of her father to the attention of her brothers. With the three siblings all bring less than a year apart they were able to remain more or less a trio throughout their childhood. As the youngest, Adelie was continuously dragged around the family's small, mostly-magical neighborhood in search of new adventures.

The Darrow boys accumulated small groups of friends once they entered primary school, some of whom had the own broomsticks. While she had traditionally been attached to her brothers hips, it was in the crude games of Quidditch that followed that transformed Adelie from "Grey's little sister" to a member of the group in her own right. With only the smallest bit of encouragement the small girl blossomed, giving her social confidence and an attitude of daring. Together in a ragtag gang of neighborhood kids, the Darrow siblings experimented with potions found in cupboards, 'borrowed' parents wands, and, on one occasion, tried to buy a blast-ended skrewt.

One by one they received their letters. Grangier left for Hogwarts when Adelie was nine and wrote home to his brother and sister frequently with tales of talking hats, giant squids, and charms classes gone wrong. Of course these updates only made them frightfully jealous and all the more determined to have fun without him. If the year was slightly less enjoyable without Grey, it got exponentially less so when Ronnie got his letter the next year. With almost all of her friends off to school and fewer and fewer owls being sent her way, Adelie could not have been more ready to leave for Hogwarts the next year.

HOGWARTS YEARS: School was all it was cracked up to be, though not in the way she expected.

Adelie did not walk in to the open arms of the same cohesive group that she had run around with only a few years prior. Instead she found her childhood friends split apart, having landed in all four of the Hogwarts houses. The most dramatic separation was that of her two brothers, one who had been placed in Gryffindor and the other in Slytherin. The dramatic green and red color schemes of the boys rooms at home had somehow not been enough to tip her off to the culture of extreme house loyalty at Hogwarts.

The Darrow siblings split up almost the second they hit the platform - Grey off with the Gryffindor gang, Ronnie quickly finding his Slytherin crowd, and Adelie herded off to mingle with the other first years. It was only after the Sorting Hat had shouted out "GRYFFINDOR!" that Adelie began to realize the importance of the moment.

Adelie was absorbed into Gryffindor House quickly and enthusiastically. From the first night there were fireworks being shot and rogue boomerangs and music that was just a little too loud. The love of adventure and excitement that had been founded at home grew exponentially over the weeks and months that followed. It was easy to make friends, classes were interesting enough, and there was never not something to do around the castle.

It was comforting to have Grey close again but equally disorienting to have Ronnie so far away within the same castle. Adelie found her niche within the other Gryffindor first years but her family connection kept her from being quite as weary of the Slytherins as some of her classmates.

The years went by quickly. Adelie began to stand out academically I'm some areas and falter in others. She joined dueling club. She made the Quidditch team. She was clicked out of dueling club. She got into trouble and got out of trouble, never incurring more than a long night of detention. There were camp-outs in the forbidden forest, post-match get togethers, and the occasional Charms essay. Life was easy, life was good, and most importantly, life was fun.

The first ripples of change began in Adelie's forth year. While she had always been reasonably cordial towards the Slytherins, a series of events at the beginning of the year brought her into friendly territory with several members of the house. The most notable of these new friends was Jasmine Fawley, a Pureblood Princess in her year. Bonding through a terrible year of Herbology, the pair moved from near-strangers to friendly acquaintances to inseparable at a shocking pace. While Adelie had always easily gotten along with her housemates she had never had a true best friend before and with the position came introductions to a whole new world of students.

The Slytherins were interesting. Their parties were edgier, their pranks more cunning, and their snark kept them from being quite so entirely boring. Adelie couldn't resist.

As Adelie's social circle began to change her personality followed. While Gryffindor continued to accentuate her recklessness and boldness in beliefs, the Slytherin crowd began to pull out others features. Adelie gradually found herself becoming more willing to criticize and permissive of violence. The group of Dark Followers and Pureblood supremacists inspired a new ideology within the formally neutral girl, drawing on her fathers side of the family. The Slytherins grew with her and in fifth year Adelie and Jasmine officially joined the Dark Followers together.

These subtle shifts in personality sprang old Gryffindor friends into action. First they tried to pull her back, then they pushed her away, then they made the decision weather or not to try and help her. The results were mixed - some housemates disagreed with her life choices but stuck by her side, others put up walls.

Despite the new friends and faction, many parts of Adelie's life remained the same. She practiced Quidditch tirelessly, pursued her interests in combat magic through extra-curricular reading, and in her free time she continued to pull stunts around school. When N.E.W.T.s hit, the counselors did their best to try and direct her schedule in some sort of oriented career path but she insisted that if she was simply allowed to take what interested her, things would work out. Amazingly, they did.

ADULTHOOD: Adelie was spotted by Holyhead Harpy scouts during a Gryffindor-Ravenclaw game her senior year and upon graduation she was offered a position. Using the signing money, Adelie got an apartment in London.

For as much work as it was, being a professional Quidditch player was not particularly time consuming. There was official practice, unofficial practice, practice at home, going to games, and watching games but even with that Adelie suddenly found herself with quite a bit of leisure time. She filled these hours with trouble.

Beyond her new involvement with the bonafide Death Eaters, Adelie nursed a growing fascination with muggle crime. Picking locks with hairpins, robbing someone at gunpoint, using cars as a means of escape.. Wizards had no idea how to handle criminals who disregarded magical techniques. Adelie began preforming little stunts for hire. It was fun, got her adrenaline pumping, and put much-needed coins in her bank vault.

After two seasons with the Harpies Adelie was brought on as the new chaser for the Falmouth Falcons after an unexpected injury downed a player. She continues to live in London.

Well, she should put a little sizzle into the Death Eaters. She looks like fun.  You'll have to send her to the meeting.

Accepted and sorted to Grads!
