BAKER, Jonah Price

on Mon May 19, 2014 5:02 am

FULL NAME: Jonah Price Baker

NICKNAMES:  He is exclusively called Ducky. One of his first pranks at Hogwarts consisted of sneaking into the records and changing his name to Ducky. He allows his professors to call him Mr Baker, but very few people know his first name.

AGE: Sixteen, entering sixth year, May 4th.

“The Party.”
His friends.
His sister.
Gryffindor House.
Gryffindor Quidditch Team.
Holyhead Harpies Quidditch Team – primarily.
The Tutshill Tornados Quidditch Team – secondary.
Potter’s Army – loosely.
The Colin Cornell fan club – lots of ladies in that club.

HOGWARTS HOUSE: Gryffindor or... um... whichever other House might fit him.

WAND: Willow, Phoenix Tail Feather, 14 1/4 inches, + springy.

Willow : Corresponds with birthdays that fall between April 15th and May 12th. Willow is a wood that is considered to be enigmatic, strong-willed, and resourceful. On the negative side of the coin, it is moody, stubborn, and prone to sudden changes in temperment. Willow attaches itself to all houses, but rarely Slytherin, and is strongest in Gryffindor House. Its best magical subject is Charms.

Phoenix Tail Feather : Phoenix tail wands often take the most effort to make loyal, but remain strongly attached once they are. This core only disagrees with those from Slytherin House, and strongly favor those in Gryffindor. Its best magical subjects are Charms and DADA, and seems particularly adept at hexes and jinxes. It is considered one of the common wand cores.

14 1/4 inches : A wand length slightly above average length.

Springy : A fairly flexible wand, a springy wand does not take much to produce magic, but the magic is not as strong as a more inflexible wand.

PLAY BY: Joe Dempsie

HAIR: In the summer, Ducky’s hair appears more sandy brown hair than it normal does. In the darker months of the year, his hair gets darker brown, but never quite reaches black. He typically keeps it short, but it does, on occasion, wisp out in the back. It is stick straight but is very thin and brittle. Therefore, it is easily messed up and almost never looks anything but disorderly. His bangs usually are swept to the side or swept upwards. Just moving his hair often keeps it in its place. He uses generic hair care products, and rarely puts gel or any product beyond shampoo or condition in it. His hair can get a little greasy on the days he is adventuring, so he will don a beanie, typically a beanie with a small bill.

EYE COLOUR: Ducky has muted grey eyes that will appear blue in the right light. He has deep set, almond-shaped eyes.

COMPARATIVE HEIGHT: 5’10”. Slightly above average. This puts him at taller than most of his friends who are girls, about the same height as his guy friends, and a bit on the shorter side among athletes.

FACIAL FEATURES: Ducky has very prominent cheekbones, and they are almost always noticeable. When he smiles, particularly, his cheekbones become fairly obvious. He has fair skin that is sometimes reddened by excursion or acne. In his younger years, he struggled with acne, particularly on his cheeks, but he has almost all but eradicated the problem. The bridge of his nose is thin while the nose itself widens a bit. He has a bit of an upturned, sloped nose. Ducky’s mouth is very proportionate for his face, and his lips are on the thinner side, but they contort often into smirks and smiles. His ears are typically hidden beneath his hair. His eyebrows are long but full of color and match his eyes very well.

BODY DESCRIPTION: Ducky has had to stay fit in his family, else he be taken down completely by his bigger brothers. His half-brother Cain and father Louis always insisted that he adhere to rigorous workout routines when he visited. Though he is much too lazy to follow the workouts away from his father's home, he remains active in Quidditch and other games. He loves wrestling and playing rugby with his friends, and this keep his muscle developed. He eats horrendously, but he has that classic teen boy metabolism that keeps the consequences away - though he does have a bit of a gut during the winter months of inactivity. He returns to his fit figure as the seasons warm. His shoulder are broad, his biceps developed, his legs muscular. He is porportional, though his shoulders make him look larger than he really is.

BOGGART: That he will truly amount to nothing, or that his friends will forget him. His boggart takes on the form of a beggar.

PATRONUS: Ducky does not have a singular happy memory, just lots of little ones. Climbing the castle and sitting on a roof. Swimming with the Great Squid. Camping in the Forbidden Forest. Getting drunk in the Shrieking Shack. Losing his virginity in Quidditch Pitch locker rooms.  Train rides with his friends. His Patronus, when he can summon it, takes the form of a hyena.

DEMENTOR: "Professor Longburne."

"Yes, Janie?"

"You know how Ducky was suspended for stealing that necklace from your office?"

"I did it."

"It was my - I'm so sorry, I was helping you with your grading and I-I saw it, and I guess I just, I just really wanted it. I'm so sorry, Professor-"

"Jane, it is okay. Alright? I know this isn't like you, so I will not report you. Just promise never to do such a thing again."

"Oh, I promise, I'm so sorry. I've been miserable."

"Alright. Now get to lunch."

"But, professor."

"Well... what about Ducky? His suspension starts tomorrow."

"What about him, then? Look, I can't take it back now, can I, without giving another name. Ducky gets into a lot of trouble as it is. It's in his blood. What's one more suspension?"

The door slammed open. There stood Ducky, his suspension papers in hand, ready for the professor in question's signature. His eyes shone with fury and indignation as he walked forward, handing the professor the papers. She stared long and hard at him, flushed.

"Go ahead. Sign it," he said. "What's one more suspension?"

Professor Longbourne glanced down in shame, but signed the paper nevertheless. Tears now slid down Jane Harrington's face as she watched with pathetic symapthy at the boy. He took back the papers from his professor and stormed towards the door.

"Ducky-" Jane finally called out.

He turned, looking coldly at the girl. The girl who laughed at his jokes in Potions. The girl who gave him the occassional back massage. The girl who helped him with his History of Magic homework. The girl who had once upon a time been his first kiss. "F*ck you, Janie."

The door shook the walls when it slammed closed.

VERITASERUM: His greatest secret isn't much of a secret as it is an unknown insecurity. Beneath every smile is some anger and hurt. His family's rejection stings, the bleak predictions for his future terrifies him, and he hates most of what he is loved for. Nevertheless, he can't stop any of it, nor would he know how to, nor is he sure he would want to shake things up that badly.

MIRROR OF ERISED: His greatest desire is to be assured that he is not a failure. If he looked into the Mirror of Erised, he would see himself in five years, obviously with a job, his friends around him.

“You Only Live Once.”
“Live fast, die young.”
“F*ck it.”

A bastard – Some of the snootier students at Hogwarts look down on Ducky because his father is considered slime to the magical community. He is noticeably poor but does not seem to believe this makes him any less than his wealthy peers, so it infuriates him when he is treated as less than them. This is one of the few taunts to which he does not respond with humor.

A best friend – Many people in Hogwarts consider Ducky their best friend. He does not discrimate much, so despite his popularity, he spreads his attention around. He has come into many people's lives at opportune times, and they consider him a close friend or a confidant. He is not really aware of how many people look to him for this role.

A social butterfly – Ducky does not discriminate amongst social groups, blood status, or House, so he finds that he can get along with most social groups. Not that he, himself, fits in to every group, but every group (most groups anyway) needs a guy like Ducky. He makes people feel important by going from the tops of the school, to the weirdos, giving them each the time and love he gives to everyone. Of course, his own close group of friends is special, but most people feel significant in his presence. This is why he is a good leader.

A player – He likes women. He often has schemes set up to meet girls. He often fantasizes about the company of elder women. Most girls, even if they do not fall for his jokes, are charmed enough to think well of him, even if they must reject them.

Popular - If Hogwarts had a Homecoming King, it is very likely that Ducky would get it. He is well known, well liked, and even loved.

The sanguine temperament is fundamentally spontaneous and pleasure-seeking; sanguine people are sociable and charismatic. They tend to enjoy social gatherings, making new friends and tend to be boisterous. They are usually quite creative and often daydream. However, some alone time is crucial for those of this temperament. Sanguine can also mean sensitive, compassionate and thoughtful. Sanguine personalities generally struggle with following tasks all the way through, are chronically late, and tend to be forgetful and sometimes a little sarcastic. Often, when they pursue a new hobby, they lose interest as soon as it ceases to be engaging or fun. They are very much people persons. They are talkative and not shy. Sanguines generally have an almost shameless nature, certain that what they are doing is right. They have no lack of confidence.

SOUL TYPE: Warrior

You are a Warrior. You actively seek challenge and adventure and thrive on overcoming obstacles. You are good at persuading people to do something and would make a good salesperson. Your capacity for hard work and structuring a task or environment makes you highly valuable as an employee. You are often the first to arrive or last to leave the office. Your clothes need to be practical and hard-wearing, and you enjoy wearing a uniform or badge of office. You have a strong sense of right and wrong. You are extremely loyal to your friends and allies, and anyone who leaps to your defence is a friend for life.

You have strong  preference of Extraversion over Introversion - 89%
You have moderate  preference of Sensing over Intuition - 25%
You have moderate  preference of Feeling over Thinking - 25%
You have strong  preference of Perceiving over Judging - 89%

As an ESFP, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you take things in via your five senses in a literal, concrete fashion. Your secondary mode is internal, where you deal with things according to how you feel about them, or how they fit with your personal value system.

ESFPs live in the world of people possibilties. They love people and new experiences. They are lively and fun, and enjoy being the center of attention. They live in the here-and-now, and relish excitement and drama in their lives.

ESFPs have very strong inter-personal skills, and may find themselves in the role of the peacemaker frequently. Since they make decisions by using their personal values, they are usually very sympathetic and concerned for other people's well-being. They're usually quite generous and warm. They are very observant about other people, and seem to sense what is wrong with someone before others might, responding warmly with a solution to a practical need. They might not be the best advice-givers in the world, because they dislike theory and future-planning, but they are great for giving practical care.

ESFP is definitely a spontaneous, optimistic individual. They love to have fun. If the ESFP has not developed their Thinking side by giving consideration to rational thought processing, they tend to become over-indulgent, and place more importance on immediate sensation and gratification than on their duties and obligations. They may also avoid looking at long-term consequences of their actions.

For the ESFP, the entire world is a stage. They love to be the center of attention and perform for people. They're constantly putting on a show for others to entertain them and make them happy. They enjoy stimulating other people's senses, and are extremely good at it. They would love nothing more than for life to be a continual party, in which they play the role of the fun-loving host.

ESFPs love people, and everybody loves an ESFP. One of their greatest gifts is their general acceptance of everyone. They are upbeat and enthusiastic, and genuinely like almost everybody. An ESFP is unfailingly warm and generous with their friends, and they generally treat everyone as a friend. However, once crosesed, an ESFP is likely to make a very strong and stubborn judgment against the person who crossed them. They are capable of deep dislike in such a situation.

The ESFP under a great deal of stress gets overwhelmed with negatives thoughts and possibilities. As an optimistic individual who lives in the world of possibilities, negative possibilities do not sit well with them. In an effort to combat these thoughts, they're likely to come up with simple, global statements to explain away the problem. These simplistic explanations may or may not truly get to the nature of the issue, but they serve the ESFP well by allowing them to get over it.

ESFPs are likely to be very practical, although they hate structure and routine. They like to "go with the flow", trusting in their ability to improvise in any situation presented to them. They learn best with "hands-on" experience, rather than by studying a book. They're uncomfortable with theory. If an ESFP hasn't developed their intuitive side, they may tend to avoid situations which involve a lot of theoretical thinking, or which are complex and ambiguous. For this reason, an ESFP may have difficulty in school. On the other hand, the ESFP does extremely well in situations where they're allowed to learn by interacting with others, or in which they "learn by doing".

ESFPs have a very well-developed appreciation for aesthetic beauty, and an excellent sense of space and function. If they have the means, they're likely to have to have many beautiful possessions, and an artfully furnished home. In general, they take great pleasure in objects of aesthetic beauty. They're likely to have a strong appreciation for the finer things in life, such as good food and good wine.

The ESFP is a great team player. He or she is not likely to create any problems or fuss, and is likely to create the most fun environment possible for getting the task done. ESFPs will do best in careers in which they are able to use their excellent people skills, along with their abilities to meld ideas into structured formats. Since they are fast-paced individuals who like new experiences, they should choose careers which offer or require a lot of diversity, as well as people skills.

ESFPs usually like to feel strongly bonded with other people, and have a connection with animals and small children that is not found in most other types. They're likely to have a strong appreciation for the beauties of nature as well.

The ESFP has a tremendous love for life, and knows how to have fun. They like to bring others along on their fun-rides, and are typically a lot of fun to be with. They're flexible, adaptable, genuinely interested in people, and usually kind-hearted. They have a special ability to get a lot of fun out of life, but they need to watch out for the pitfalls associated with living entirely in the moment.

SOCIAL STATUS: Low, low, low class.

PET/S: None.

Ducky has very little. He uses a school broom. He borrows his friends' owls for letters to his sister. And his clothes, if they aren't handed down, are stolen or cheap.

Mother’s Biography: Alison Evans came from a fairly wealthy, well-to-do family. They were nowhere near the prestige of the purebloods, of course, but they could afford whatever they needed. Alison had two sisters and none of the girls ever went without the best clothes, and they never knew what hunger was. Alison went to Hogwarts and graduated – nothing special. She got a job in the Ministry and soon met and married Silas Harvey, a well-to-do Ministry man. She promptly took up the new job as stay at home mom and years passed in this manner. They bore four sons, and it was during her pregnancy that she discovered Silas with his mistress. Alison had always been a very proud woman, so the divorce was harsh and quick. On the rebound, Alison became pregnant with the child of a ne’er-do-well by the name of Abram Baker. Abram appealed to her because of his bad boy persona, but faced with raising his child (abortion had never been an option for her) Alison soon decided he was not father material. He already had a son, and the boy was already trouble. Abram managed to stick around long enough to make a deal with Alison – he would leave her alone if he could name the child and be a part of his life.  Jonah was born, named, and Abram was ejected from their lives. Alison was beginning to get desperate.  Five boys on her hands, a pitiful job, and her parents were no longer able to support her financially, and her pride would not allow her to look for handouts. She married again, marrying a wealthy man in the Ministry by the name of Carl Garrett. Two years passed, and things were getting better. She was pregnant again, with a girl. However, it seemed Alison was cursed with bad luck. Carl died in the line of duty. His life insurance was enough to provide them lodgings (his home belonged to his family) and give Alison time to find a new job. Six children. No assets. And too much pride for her own good. Alison was certain she was living through hell on earth.

Father’s Biography: Aram Baker was born into circumstances much like his son - he was raised by his mother, with the occasional influence of his father. His mother was a weak-willed woman, raised in a disgraced family that descended from pureblood lines. His father was a mean drunk with a horrible reputation. He had served some time in prison for petty crimes, and some time in Azkaban for more malicious, violent crimes. His mother worked the best she could but they had lots of extended periods of poverty. Abram did not make it to his fourth year in Hogwarts. He had turned to thievery as well and was expelled for disciplanary reasons. For three years, he could not use magic, but once the Trace was off of him, he stole a wand. He lived with his mother until she died, and once she did, his father disappeared from his life. He moved in with his girlfriend at the time and they had Cain. When Cain was a year old, his mother disappeared. Not long after, he fell in with Alison Harvey. Jonah came about and Abram had to return to living on his own. He found a woman very much like his mother, weak-willed and in need of company. She took care of Cain until he was six years old, but by then, was sick of Abram's attitude and lifestyle. She left and Cain began following him around. Cain dropped out of Hogwarts but was 'home-schooled.' He got away with this by finding someone who he could pay to do his work. Cain was his father's partner-in-crime but he was less mean-spirited. Failure and loss had turned Louis into his father, though he did not harm his boys.

Early Years: Ducky was doomed to fail. When he was born, his eldest brother was six and his youngest was just a year older. The four boys ahead of him were the only joys Alison had in her disappointing life. They also knew how to get whatever they wanted from her. Alison resented their father, but could not bring herself to resent the boys for their father’s wrongs. She could, however, resent Ducky, for he was the reminder that it was her mistake that had brought him into existence, not his father’s. Ducky did not know much of the hardship the family faced until after his sister Lydia was born. She was given the same name as the rest of the family for reasons Alison would not disclose, leaving Ducky as the odd one out.

He felt that influence. Alison obviously had the least love for Ducky, and the boys reveled in this knowledge. His elder brother’s teased him and looked down on him as he grew up. They were a rambunctious group when they were together, but they became horribly posh when Ducky tried to join in. They looked down on the “bastard” son, and often assured him that any poverty they ever faced could have been eased had his father been worth anything or had he not been born. Ducky faced this opposition by developing a humorous look on life, always finding a funny quip for every insult.

He went to public school the year his eldest brother went to Hogwarts. His other three brothers went to the same school, so the taunting did not end at home. Ducky, however, combatted unpopularity by becoming the class clown. He was often held after school for discipline but it worked well – he was no longer teased by his peers. His brothers changed their tactics to simply ignoring him at school. At home, they could look down on him all they wanted, following the cues of their exhausted, bitter mother.

Lydia was his only ally at home. The girl resented the fact that her mother had forced the name of a man she had no relation to onto her. The dissatisfaction that the family had for Ducky could not match the dissatisfaction Lydia had for the family. She allied with Ducky to spite them all and managed to feel some love for him too.

His childhood passed in this manner. He made a fool of himself at school to keep himself from being teased, and he was teased at home for being a fool in school. He was able to stay with his father on occasion, where he would stay in a cramped apartment with the criminal and his half-brother Cain. Cain was mostly misunderstood, but all he knew was crime, and it was how he assisted the family. His paternal side of the family was another badge of shame for his mother and brothers, though. He ignored this through the usual methods : laughter.

His brothers expressed surprise when he received his Hogwarts letter. He struggled in school, and they had seen no signs of his magic. He kept that secret for his sister. He headed off to Hogwarts with an optimistic spirit.

Hogwarts Years: ”Hey! Nice socks! Quack, quack! What’s your name, Mr Mallard?”

His brothers turned red with humiliation, immediately abandoning their brother on the platform. Their mother was dealing with Lydia, and Jonah found himself surrounded by jeering students. These people that were supposed to be his solace from home, and they were already preparing to make him their target. He had to stop it now. If Jonah knew how to do anything, it was to survive and to forge a way into happiness.

He looked down at his ankles, where his trousers had ridden up, revealing bright magenta socks and with yellow ducks. His brothers had stolen all of his other socks, leaving him with no other choice. He raised his chin and gave a cheeky, almost shy smile. “No, my name is Ducky.”

The crowd howled with laughter, but it was not aimed at him. He had surprised everyone and they were delighted. He was paraded onto the train, where he was asked for his real name. He kept answering with the given name, a coy smile on his face. Eventually, everyone just allowed it.

He wore those socks for a week until his sister managed to send him a package full of duck socks. His feet would never be soiled by any other pattern ever again.

Ducky was well-loved by his peers. He made a name for himself that day on the train, again on Sorting day when the Hat took almost no time to sort him and a clever comment made the whole school giggle, and then again on his first day of class. ("Mr Baker. Do you know why Potions is such an important class?" "Um, no sir, that's why I'm taking it. So you can tell me why.") The professors had him marked early as a problem student, and expected him to follow the footsteps of his father and brother.

Ducky quickly gathered a close group of friends in his first few years there. Though he had lots of friends, his close group were the ones to accompany him on his best adventures, and they were the ones to see him at his weakest - though it happened very rarely. The most important aspect of their friendship that separated them from the rest of the school was that they kept him accountable. It was because of them that he did not follow in his father and brother's footsteps. He even got a job to help support himself.

Though he did not do exceedingly well in his classes, he was passing. His OWLs came back - A's all around, even with a few E's involved. The struggle is not over, however. The incident in his fourth year with Professor Longbourne proved that the professor's were not friends to him, and he learned to mistrust authority with everything he was.

HOW YOU FOUND US: Me + PA = Forever.
