------------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION
------------------------------------------------------------

    FULL NAME: Ava Vitriola Hemander

    NICKNAMES:None

    AGE: 16

ALLEGIANCE: Neutral. She could easily go either way. Her interactions will determine her allegiance.

HOGWARTS HOUSE: Gryffindor, Slytherin. I think this will have a huge effect on how the character develops. She's so torn between dark magic and good magic. She is desperate to be “good” and do the right thing and fight for justice. She is just ambivalent over what is right and what isn't.

    CLASSES: DADA, Potions.

WAND: Ash, 12”, phoenix feather core, strong and fairly unflexible.

    PLAY BY: Lacey Turner

------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------

    HAIR COLOR: Brown

    EYE COLOR: Green/hazel

    HEIGHT: 5'4

    BODY TYPE: Average

GENERAL APPEARANCE: Ava is average height and build. Her features aren't paticularly defined or outstanding. She is wholly average in appearance. She has brown hair and eyes that are somewhere between green and hazel. However, when she smiles, her cheekbones are accentuated and her face seems far more attractive. Her face is incredibly expressive and she can show any and every feeling and intention through subtle nuances of her face, or equally, can easily use her expressions to hide herself.

------------------------------------------------------------

    - Is good at manipulating people.

    CHARACTER WEAKNESSES:
    - Has a very wild temper.
    - Gets easily annoyed and argumentative if pushed.
    - Can be vicious and cruel when she's defending herself and others.
    - Despite wanting to do the right thing, she has no idea what it is.
    - Charms and divination.
    - She rarely trusts anybody.
    - She is quite manipulative and isn't always honest.

    CHARACTER LIKES:
    - Potions
    - The dark arts AND defence against them.
    - Flirting with others, no matter who they are.
    - Praise from others.
    - Fighting for what she believes in.
    - Her little brother.
    - Flying

    CHARACTER DISLIKES:
    - Not knowing what she believes in.
    - Being lied to or manipulated, that's her job.
    - Anyone knowing her true feelings.
    - Not being able to stand up for people or herself.
    - Sometimes muggles, sometimes purebloods.
    - Not knowing her father or his world.

    GOALS:
    - To find what she believes in and fight for it no matter what.
    - To make people proud of her.
    - To make the best life she can for her little brother.
    - To try somehow to make her mother the woman she used to be.

    QUIRKS:
    - Plays with her hair when flirting.
    - Licks her lips a lot, particularly when working or thinking hard. She doesn't even notice that she does it.

BOGGART: Being a disappointment to those in her life. Giving up and standing by, not standing up for herself or others.

PATRONUS: Long-eared owl. The day Vincent was born. Ava remembers her father carrying her to the sofa where she sat beside her smiling mother who held the newborn Vincent in her arms. The family smiled and laughed, together.

DEMENTOR: Standing in the hallway of her grandparent's house, her father not long dead. Ava stood next to Vincent's pushchair outside the door where her mother was speaking with her grandparents. There were screams, insults, horrific words used. She heard hexes being fired between people, Vincent began to cry. She heard her mother beg. She heard her grandmother call them fithy mudbloods and that they were better off with the rest of the filth. Her mother stopped eating, her magic was already suffering, her grandparents wouldn't speak to or even look at her or Vincent. She felt completely alone.

VERITASERUM: The dark arts that she learns, the values taught to her by her family. Those are kept secret from others at Hogwarts. Likewise, the need to protect people, even muggles, her questioning of her family's values are kept very secret from her family.

MIRROR OF ERISED: To protect Vincent. To find the 'right' way to be.

PERSONALITY: Ava is a girl who plays her cards very close to her chest. Not many, if any people really know her, though she plays her role well, so most people feel they know her. She can be quite devious and manipulative in order to keep people from seeing her emotions or thoughts. She flirts with anyone and everyone, partly as a defense mechanism, but mostly for her own amusement.
Ava isn't somebody to be crossed. She can be vicious and underhanded if she feels cheated or lied to and she can hold a grudge until the person has earned back her 'trust'. Though really, Ava doesn't trust anybody, not because she doesn't want to, she just doesn't really know how. She would love to have somebody on her side, somebody to rely on but instead, she is the strong one. Though she doesn't let anyone in, she still cares a lot about those around her and will fight valiantly for them and with them. She is very protective and cares a lot about doing the right thing.
Ava is at a crossroads. Her family have taught her darks arts and the importance of blood purity and very much want her to join the dark forces, but Hogwarts has taught Ava the opposite. She doesn't know which way to turn. She cares so much about doing the right thing, but she doesn't know which way is right, she doesn't know what to believe or who to believe in. She knows that her decision will shape the rest of her life and change her life in every way, no matter what she chooses. It's a lot of weight on her shoulders and the pressure gets to her a lot.
She has a desperately good heart, but her actions are not always so positive.

------------------------------------------------------------
CHARACTER HISTORY
------------------------------------------------------------

    Early Years:

Ava was born to Pyamonia Hemander and Peter Furlow

Pyamonia was a pureblood witch from a wealthy and noble wizarding family. Her parents had both been vaguely implicated in several attacks on muggles and had often been thought to be in league with death eaters during some of the wizarding world's darkest times. But nothing was ever proven and the family remained high within the community.

At the age of 17, Pyamonia fell in love with a muggle boy called Peter and as soon as she turned 18, ran off with him, knowing that whilst she still associated with them, she would never be allowed to marry the man she loved. They married quickly and just over a year later Ava was born, followed three years later by a baby boy they named Vincent. Shortly after Vincent's birth, Peter was killed in a suspicious accident whilst at work.

With no income and two children to support, Pyamonia begged her father's help. He agreed to take Pyamonia back into the family if she was to have no further contact with the muggle world. Reluctantly Pyamonia agreed and she, along with both children, took residence in her parent's estate.

It was clear as the children grew up that their grandparents, Vitriola and Novorus could not overlook the betrayal and shame their daughter had put upon them and moreso that the children were mudbloods in their eyes.

Ava grew up in the middle of the warzone of her family. Everything was passive aggressive and as a child, it was very hard for her to understand. She had very few memories of her father, being only three when he died, so she looked up to Novorus as a father figure and constantly tried to win his affections. But no matter how hard she tried, he was always distant and cold to her. He would often speak of her needing to work to prove herself and Ava was always desperate to do so, to be good enough in the eyes of her family.

Ava's mother became very submissive after the death of her husband and beaten down by her parent's she became perpetually sad and although she loved her children, she struggled to take care of them. Her magic suffered as a result of her depression and this only fed the fire of anger and disgust that Novorus and Vitriola held for her. This meant that Ava very much became the caretaker and mother figure of her little family, taking care of herself as well as playing mother to Vincent and to her own mother. It was Ava who would at the tender age of six, come into her mother's bedroom to stop her tears, or remind her mother to eat when she didn't seem to be. Ava grew up very quickly and never really knew what it was to be a child. But she became fiercely protective of Vincent, seeing him almost as her own son, as well as protective of her mother, who still seemed beyond rescue.

Ava grew up learning the strict morals and values of her pureblood grandparents and knew was constantly reminded of blood purity as well as who their allegiance should really fall to. She would always politely give the right answers and do her best to be the granddaughter that they would be proud of. Her grandparents taught her well in magic, particularly dark magic, as well as manipulation and lies. Ava was a good student and could easily fulfil their wishes. She grew to enjoy the power she could have over others, particularly as she was so powerless in her own family.

Hogwarts Years: Ava has spent her years at Hogwarts torn between the dark arts and values of her family and her own sense of freedom and good. She knows that she wants to fight for the wizarding world and do what's right, but after years of Hogwarts teaching her good magic and the value of muggles and muggleborns, she doesn't know what the right thing is.

    Adulthood: N/A

    YOUR NAME: Lottie

HOW YOU FOUND US: on top rp list

    OTHER CHARACTERS:

PURPOSE OF CHARACTER: To play out the pull between dark forces and the order.

    RP SAMPLE:
    Spoiler:

Ava stood by her mother's bedside where her mother sat, catatonic, staring into space.

“You have to eat something,” Ava said softly, stroking her mother's hair back from her face. “Look, I made you some soup. Come on. Vincent's getting his first broom today, don't you want to watch him learn to fly?” Ava tried to coax some response out of her mother.

“I'm sorry, darling.” Her mother said defeatedly, casting her eyes down in shame. It wasn't a real apology, it was her way of saying no.

“Fine!” Ava snapped, slamming the bowl of soup down on the bedside table, spilling half the contents over the surface. She wasn't really angry, but it hurt. It hurt that her mother didn't seem to even be trying. It felt like she didn't even care, not about herself, not even about Ava or Vincent. Ava couldn't understand why her mother would just give up. “I don't know why I expected anything anyway.” Ava voiced harshly. She turned to leave, storming across to the door, tears prickling behind her eyes.

“No.” Her mother spoke softly from behind her. “Ava, don't be like that. Don't be cruel. Don't you ever, ever be cruel.” The plea was heartfelt but only added to the tears now gently tracking down Ava's face. But she couldn't lose face, not now that she had set response in anger so she merely attempted a soft, derisive laugh and left the room, not looking back.

I've been mulling over this for a while now. Hah. It's a great app and you've got a brilliant character here that really deserves to flourish. The only problem is where to put her. Hah. I think that it is going to be Gryffindor though. Slytherin would expose her to too much darkness too fast and I think the Gryffindors would have been useful to manipulate as they wouldn't have realised like the Slytherins would have done. So!

ACCEPTED and sorted into GRYFFINDOR! ;D

Shoot me a pm if you need a hand. Welcome to PA, Lottie!

Thank you. I'm really pleased with the choice and pleased that you think Ava is a good character. I've managed to really fall for her since creating her already!

I was secretly hoping for Gryffindor! So I'm very pleased.
I think it makes a much more interesting complex. Because Ava actually enjoys messing with people, she's spent so long being taught that other people, particularly muggles and muggleborns are beneath her and nothing more than tools to be used that she genuinely likes the power she has over other people, being able to mess with them, play them off against each other. But part of the reason she does it and enjoys it is because it keeps people from getting too close to the real her. I think she's deeply hurt and it will be interesting to see how her interactions with other people will play out and how it will affect her.
