| I was on Facebook today (like I am everyday) and I saw that some people are being offended by other people saying Merry Christmas. I don't understand this. I mean if they are people who have different customs, like they are from Japan or China or Russia or something like that then it is totally understand able to a point. But just because you don't believe in God doesn't mean that other people who do believe in him shouldn't be able to say Merry Christmas. I mean I hardly believe in God myself, but I still say Merry Christmas. It's in almost every Christmas song I hear on the radio, and people have been saying it since Christmas started. If someone said Happy Holidays to me instead of Merry Christmas then I would say Happy Holidays. But if someone said Merry Christmas to me I wouldn't say that I don't believe and I don't want to hear it. I just acknowledge that they believe and say Merry Christmas. Maybe it's just because I believe in being nice to everyone no matter if they are mean to me, but really? Who else out there agrees with me? If you don't agree tell us why, please. |

| I agree with you. If someone says Happy Holidays to me, I'll say Happy Holidays back. But if someone says Merry Christmas I'll say Merry Christmas back to them. |

| Saying this from a different point of view than a Christian, if someone doesn't believe in god or celebrate Christmas, they shouldn't be offended by it. If someone has different beliefs than you, I think that someone shouldn't be offended. I think that's a little intolerant for other people's beliefs since some people are offended by it. But that's just my opinion. |

| It's this political correct fervor hitting the world, America especially. I am all over freedom of speech, so I think everyone has the right to say what they please, and have the right to be offended. I think it's silly since saying Merry Christmas passes every test the law sets down about religion- no one if forced to say something they don't believe, they are not favoring a religion nor putting one down. People can be offended, I just have a hard time seeing why, but I don't mind it. |

| I don't like the term 'Happy Holidays' personally. It sets my teeth on edge. To me it lacks the warmth of saying 'Merry Christmas' to someone. Christmas isn't really about the birth of Christ anymore, is it? It's about giving and receiving and getting fat on way too much food. That's what it has become. For me, I associate Christmas with a time when everyone is together - a family time. 'Happy Holidays' almost sounds impersonal, if you get what I mean? Brits don't really say 'Happy Holidays' so that's never been a problem for me. Haha. I don't reckon I'd reply with 'Happy Holidays' though. It would always be 'Merry Christmas'. Be merry! Sod happy! | - I completely agree with Jack and everyone else.
I have always preferred the term "Merry Christmas" regardless of the fact that I am Christian myself. To me, a "holiday" could happen at any time of year. It literally stands for "holy day". Christmas acknowledges the specific day Jesus was estimated to have been born, and so I use it to refer to December 25th respectively.
Both "Christmas" and "Holiday" are religious in diction, but today, the religious qualities are watered down. All in all, its kind of silly to get angry at someone for saying "Merry Christmas" when saying "Happy Holidays" derives from religion also. |
